Most people take other people as they find them regardless of race culture or religion, but I can understand why some feel they don’t want those cultural practices in the UK/ France or wherever.Whether it’s parents mobbing schools about rumours of disrespect for the Koran or trying to get teachers sacked, to hate speech imams to terrorist attacks.
Plus of course women treated as second class citizens and gay people being looked down on.

Of course I don't dismiss terrorist groups. But I think the drawbridge has long since been lifted.

Nope not my experience I feel lucky to live in a country which to a great extent celebrates diversity. Those who don't "celebrate diversity" can be avoided or made politely aware that I don't share their racist views. Works for me. This idea of a British culture is as false as the idea of a homogeneous Islamic culture.

Islam is no different to any other religion it takes on the social and cultural norms of the country where it is prevalent. The Islamic culture of muslims brought up in Afghanistan, is entirely different from that of the Islam of muslim women brought up in Morocco or Algeria.

If you are going to talk about how muslim women are treated ar how they live, then you need to put it within the context of the cultural norms of the country they come from or grew up in.

Exactly and we are not our culture.

I have always experienced the western culture I live in as not homogeneous. Many different POV and ways of living. And I have witnessed many changes in my lifetime in attitudes to a whole number of different social issues.

I was brought up to have an open interest in differenc and to be curious.

That doesn't mean to say I would not stand up against any manifestation of hate or oppression from different cultures.

Including my own.

Yes definitely the red line against any form of terrorism of course. Just as Enoch Powell crossed my red line in his hate mongering "rivers of blood" against the Windrush generation.

Fear mongering against another culture usually includes a few oft repeated examples of that which I too would find unacceptable as the norm from in that culture. Tarring all with the same brush. Not seeking what we have in common as

My closest neighbours are Muslim, our children grew up together, played together and learnt about each others customs.

One of our AC has a good friend who is Muslim.

My close girlfriend group includes Muslim, Hindu, catholic, Christian along with atheists and not fussed.

The one thing all the above have in common is friendship and trust.

There are good people and bad people in all religions and all countries.

We live in strange times. When there's a downer on women who stay at home and care for not just children but often elderly relatives (instead of packing them off somewhere). Whatever colour the skin.

Again whataboutery, do the British go on a rampage everytime some Cine show a film that offend them. Never seen Muslims dining out in our restaurants, ever. Plenty of people living in Spain use their local tapas bars and restaurants. You ever read anything that alters your entrenched view. Unless you've had family or friends in Spain, I would say you haven't got a clue.

Well, most "Indian" restaurants are owned and run by people from Bangladesh, who are mostly Muslim.

Or perhaps they don't eat in their own restaurants 🤔?

There as a time when Catholicism was regarded much the same way some now regard Islam. It was an unfounded fear, so is this.

Glorianny For once I agree with you! As a catholic of irish origins, I can remember coming up against all kind of prejudice and ignorance of what my religion taught and how it affected my day today life in my teens and twenties.

I came from an army family and I was told that catholic soldiers would always put loyalty to the pope ahead of loyalty to their country and therefore could not be trusted in positions of authority.

This is true and has always been true, if you are different you will be treated differently, a generation later it’s all gone, maybe not forgotten.

Jews are always treated differently in any country bar Israel by ignorant people.

Of course they pose no risk to anyone, unlike the Muslim terror groups.
