I’m sorry Granniesunite, actually I pray too, but I’m acutely aware that my prayers and the prayers of others are not being answered. I’m sorry if I offended you, I was just trying to get someone to say what’s to be done about the hostages, but in all of the posts on this and other threads, no one will say what should be done, and so I conclude that no one knows, and some (but not all) are able to disconnect from these hostages and not think much about them. Since my Jewish friend posts on Facebook nearly every day about getting them home, I am unable to forget about them (unless I don’t look at my Facebook page.)

Those poor people should never have been taken in the first place and I’d think reading my posts it would be clear that I hate killing so using another human being to justify the ends so most certainly inhuman.

I pray for them and their families every day as I pray for peace in the world.

The hard fact is that sometimes it’s necessary.It had to be done to stop the Nazis for a start.The Ukrainians have to try to stop Russia taking over.The Israelis have to root out hamas and deter all the other terrorist groups that surround them and who fire rockets at them just about daily.

I’m not offended maddyone and as I posted up thread no one in real life or social media seem to have the answer as to bringing these innocent people home to their family.

That in my world would have been top of the list.

Hence, the two state solution is DOA, which gives us the only viable long-term solution, but one which requires the most courage & faith by all parties - a One State Solution - a normal state where everyone regardless of race, religion or ethnicity lives equally under a constitution. But that means the current Zionist entity must be dissolved and reformed along with Palestine into something new. It’s either that or more instability, killing, and endless wars.

Well that's neither right in my mind - nor possible.

In the long term, unless a government in Israel is committed to long term military occupation of Gaza, I see an internationally negotiated 2 state solution as the only way forward.

Atm Netanyahu is not committing (as far as I can read to any "road map" ahead).

There are considerable political tensions within Israel, I cant see a long term military occupation with thousands of IDF permanently committed as being viable.

Whitewavemark2 if you do a quick search or Smotrich and Ben -Givr, it is very clear what their objectives are, in their own words! They want a state with laws based on the Torah, Palestinians can either leave, live under their subjugation or a shahid ie die for their cause. Smotrich is deeply homophobic and organised a beast march of donkeys and cows at the same time as the Israeli Gay Pride march. They clearly have links with Ultra orthodox terrorist groups, Ben Givr is the go to guy if anyone is caught for terrorist activities, was linked to the assassination of Rabin and was active in, the now outlawed, Kach and Kahane Chai party. He was once arrested on suspected terrorism with 700 litres of gasoline. I could go on. They are thoroughly nasty vile people and they are presently calling the tune in Israel so that Netanyahu can stay in power and avoid prison.

Palestinians already live as full citizens of Israel and are afforded all the same rights as Jewish citizens of Israel.
Also Christians live in Israel as full citizens of the state of Israel.

Listen folks - I’m not saying that I agree SA, but what I’m posting is the way attitudes are changing as a result of Israeli/Hamas actions.

Look at the statements being issued by Jordan, Egypt and others. Never mind the rest of the world.

What we think will have zero influence, but that is not true of the major players - particularly those surrounding Israel.

I would like to see a two state solution, but at the moment I think that is as far away as it ever was.

The other short term fact is that the young vote in the USA will almost certainly be lost by Biden if what is happening on the streets and universities is translated into votes.

People think the once a week protest is bad in the U.K., but you need to look into Europe and the Americas to understand what is happening to public opinion over the Israeli/Gaza war.

Other governments are refusing to get directly involved however, instead offering to take part in international solutions, and contributing to aid.

There is absolutely no doubt though that Israel is foolishly loosing support.

This would never have happened imo if they had a less hard right government in the form of Netanyahu and cronies, because the strategy would have been very different.

International factors also at play include Israel being geographically a key player against Iran. The US - after failed on the ground interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan - regards Israel as a stronghold in the area and no doubt support for arms funding is for these international concerns.
