I am not sure if it will be possible over the next 42 days, but I thought it would be fun to try to see. How the polls perform after the various gaffs that the politicians will inevitably make.

Whilst the gap is huge at the moment, it will almost certainly close as the days go by.

I think I’ll use Politico (poll of polls)

But he didn’t that is the point. Mercer knows full well that Thomas is unable to talk about his military record because of its sensitivity

Precisely WW.

Mercer has used the fact that Thomas is not allowed to go into detail about his military action, to say ‘oh well he’s lying about it then’.

From one veteran to another - so sadsad

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 23-Jun-24 17:31:47

My elder son was a Royal Marine Commando and served in Afghanistan and Iraq. The only time he talked about his experiences on the front line was very briefly, in the car, when I picked him up from Brize Norton.

LizzieDrip Sun 23-Jun-24 18:23:51

LLFLflowers

And I bet your son would never expect a fellow veteran to talk about his / her military service, particularly in public, and particularly when that service involves potentially sensitive information. I don’t know what Johnny Mercer was thinking about!

I hope your son is ok after his time serving his country.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 23-Jun-24 19:38:41

He’s fine thanks LizzieD. He left the Marines a few years ago, did a couple of degrees and now works in the intelligence and security sector in Westminster.

And on a gloomy evening as the sun has gone in, this will cheer everybody up - the names of the Monster Raving Loony candidates.

I’m in Lady Lily the Pink territory, but I do like the sound of the Mid Sussex candidate, Farmin’ Lord F’tang!

LizzieDrip Sun 23-Jun-24 21:14:30

Oh blimey LLFL - you could say out of the frying pan into the firegrin

LizzieDrip Sun 23-Jun-24 21:23:26

Thanks Casdon, yes this has cheered me up👍

Unfortunately there are no Monster Raving Loony candidates in my neck of the woods, but I do like the sound of Incredible Flying Brick – Islington North. They’ll be up against Jeremy Corbyn; could be interestingsmile

Wyllow3 Sun 23-Jun-24 21:41:18

They are linked to monster loony party, Starmer has another one too in Holborn and St Pancras.
Nick the Incredible Flying Brick (The Official Monster Raving Loony Party)

Casdon Sun 23-Jun-24 22:00:06

This is my favourite plan in their manifesto, although I like most of it.
‘Migration of Nets…..We will reduce net migration by making sure that any nets are secured more firmly to the ground.’
wink

LizzieDrip Sun 23-Jun-24 22:22:37

Brilliant Casdon🤣🤣🤣

I love the looniest bits of an election.

I am tbh a bit disappointed (well in one way) because I really did think that there would be more movement in the polls than there has been.

I suppose there is still time.

And I suppose that they could be totally wrong!

They do seem to be frightening the right wing media though with all their Armageddon warnings.

Todays trackers are mostly exactly the same. You Gov does have a down tick for both labour and Tory, but the gap remains the same. The others are recording no change at about 40% and 20% although the Tories are definitely under threat from friend of Russia - Farage.

Iam64 Mon 24-Jun-24 13:01:51

I continue to try to be entertained rather than stunned at the number of posters expressing horror at the idea of a Labour govt. you’d think the country was in terrific shape that only the tories, or even crazier, Reform could maintain

Siope Mon 24-Jun-24 13:04:06

I have been hugely amused watching the Telegraph spiral downward into increasingly random nonsense.

Yesterday’s delight was ‘Brace Yourself For Sir Keir’s War on Joy’.

Mamie Mon 24-Jun-24 13:26:27

It is a real meltdown isn't it?
At least if Labour does win, the next morning the Tories everywhere will be saying; it is the will of the people / we lost we will get over it / we will suck it up etc. etc.
Won't they?
😂😂😂

Apologies for how grubby this is but it’s been blu tack’d to the shelf above my computer for many years and is much loved and revered. I assume it was in The Observer which was the only newspaper I had back in the day. I love many things about my country and its people but I think the Loonies are up there near the top in wonderfulness!

Siope Mon 24-Jun-24 14:39:16

In the same spirit, here is Simon McCoy interviewing Count Binface

It doesn’t need a Spotify account to listen to, but it’s obviously also available on your preferred podcast platform.

If Labour are elected, it will be because people have voted for them, and those who did not vote for them or not vote at all will of course accept the they are to form the next Government.

That’s what happens in a democratic country like the U.K.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jun-24 12:18:29

So Labour still ahead in the polls by a mile but reform and Tories neck and neck.

I don’t think it is anyone’s interest except the racists and headbangers to encourage the vote to go to reform, because looking ahead it is clear what May happen. It is bad enough if the Tory swing even more to the right with their reduced numbers, but if this happens and Farage is in parliament it is a dead cert that he will be incorporated into the Tory party.

We are then looking at a Le Pen type party.

How utterly ironic that Churchills party who helped defeat fascism, is looking in the danger of turning into the very thing he most hated.

MayBee70 Tue 25-Jun-24 14:08:52

I don’t think his supporters understand irony. This is a party that includes Anne Widdecombe for one thing. Isn’t that enough to set alarm bells ringing.

It could be worse Mamie. Think of all the demonstrators and protestors after Macron won!

Indeed. 😂
I think we are seeing peak "performative miserabilism" in France at the moment.
The popular sentiment seems to be that everything in France is wrong, but it is still much better than anywhere else. 🤔

MayBee70 Tue 25-Jun-24 19:10:26

Best price Labour to win is 1/50 ( going out to 1/100). Going to check on a regular basis to reassure myself it’s still going well.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jun-24 19:51:29

The nearer i get to the election, the more jittery I get😬

Popular sentiment in the U.K. is that everything is wrong, not likely to get better and worse than everywhere else😀
