I am not sure if it will be possible over the next 42 days, but I thought it would be fun to try to see. How the polls perform after the various gaffs that the politicians will inevitably make.

Whilst the gap is huge at the moment, it will almost certainly close as the days go by.

I think I’ll use Politico (poll of polls)

John Redwoods standing down!

Well he is 72 years old.

Even Conservative MP’s should be able to retire…

As with Michael Howard I’ve always felt there’s ‘ something of the night’ about him…shock

Goves gone!!!

The ones that inflicted Brexit upon us all seem to be now leaving it for everyone else to clear up the mess they’ve left us with….

Goves gone!!!

That really does surprise me, he’s the first resignation that has. He’s got a big majority, and he’s only in his fifties.

A Labour investigation into veteran MP Diane Abbott will be resolved before the general election, Sir Keir Starmer has said.

Asked about the probe, the Labour leader told LBC: “It will be resolved, yes of course it will. We have got a cut-off date for, I think it is June 4, or thereabouts. So we have got a date in place.”

Pressed about whether the Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP who currently sits as an independent, would have the Labour whip restored, Sir Keir said: “That is a process we are going through. The National Executive Committee in the end will decide that.

“But we have got a process in place and we will complete it reasonably soon now.”

I just checked, he’s in the 27th safest Tory seat in the country - I wonder if he’s had a good offer elsewhere, as it seems unlikely he would lose his seat - and he is alleged to be very powerful in the party. Interesting.

Yes, I guess it’s happening in all the parties with MPs who have lost the whip now - they have to do something pdq, don’t they.

…. 10 grams please, it's a leaving do.

Anniebach Fri 24-May-24 20:12:15

And .Matt Hancock

Casdon Fri 24-May-24 20:18:22

There are 18 MPs who have lost the whip, I know some of them have already said they won’t be standing again, but presumably it has to be sorted for all those who are under some form of investigation and haven’t resigned.

There could be a sitcom in this. 😁

Hunt is odds on to lose to the Libdems - maybe he will resign tonight?

Casdon Fri 24-May-24 20:34:09

Yes, let’s call it Up the Junction.

Surely not? I’m not a fan, but he strikes me as the loyal type.

Yes, let’s call it Up the Junction.

Or "Up the Swanny".

Anniebach Fri 24-May-24 20:40:32

Andrea Leadsom going

GrannyGravy13 Fri 24-May-24 20:42:18

Do anyone think Michael Gove is off to join Dominic Cummings in his new political venture?

Casdon Fri 24-May-24 20:43:51

I was thinking of the Squeeze song.
Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there's something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business
And she won't write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it's my assumption
I'm really up the junction

It covers lots of scenarios!

That’s a really interesting possibility isn’t it? Wow, if that’s the case.

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-24 20:48:59

Yes, big Wow! It would make sense. Gove is young, has a decent majority, is respected (but not liked) for ‘getting things done’. Hmm. Could happen …

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-24 20:50:24

Ah! I thought you meant the film with Denis Waterman.

I think Ken Loach did an adaptation of the book too.

It's a possibility. The two have always been allies.

zakouma66 Fri 24-May-24 21:01:43

They could call their new party Cummings and Goings.

A private healthcare entrepreneur who campaigned for a second Brexit referendum is to run for Labour against Jeremy Corbyn, the party’s former leader.

Praful Nargund, a businessman behind a chain of IVF clinics who is already a Labour councillor, has been selected to stand in the Islington North seat after Mr Corbyn was expelled from the party.
