I would not vote Conservative, but I don't trust Labour not to open the floodgates to yet more people who really don't like us and want to do us harm. Who to vote for - any ideas?

ruthiek Mon 27-May-24 14:26:51

I am Completely politically homeless , sunak isn’t for me , but I don’t trust Starmer with Lammy, Rayner and Thornberry in his cabinet , it maybe the first time I don’t vote

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 14:31:54

Why is Sunak not for you?

I can’t name one Labour politician that I would trust, but I do trust Sunak and those occupying the great offices of State. Nobody on the Labour front bench inspires confidence.

I doubt Truss will be re-elected, her constituents are far from happy with her.

She’s in a very safe seat, if she goes the Tories will have less than 100 MPs - unless there’s a huge amount of antipathy to her personally in the local electorate.

Wyllow3 Mon 27-May-24 14:32:25

Is Braverman still standing for Fareham? Main challenge in the last election was Labour not Lib Dems.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 14:34:32

Her constituency is close to where I live - she has lost a great deal of support. Which is hardly surprising. She’s not a good constituency MP either - very rarely seen.

Optomistic1 Mon 27-May-24 14:41:15

Conservative for me. The economy is improving and I trust them over Labour anyday. The only actually policy I have heard from labour is the plan to put VAT on private school fees . I am genuinely scared about what will happen of labour get in.
Careful what you wish for …..

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 14:43:21

You are not alone. I find the prospect frightening.

Greciangirl Mon 27-May-24 14:45:35

I agree with Luckygirl3.

There is only one choice and that’s Labour.

If any of you can’t see that, then I don’t know what.

All this talk of coalitions etc. it’s b. . . . . ks.

catspaw Mon 27-May-24 15:07:50

reform for me.

catspaw Mon 27-May-24 15:09:11

reform for me, most of my friends too. i live in wales labour here have made a right mess.

lilydily9 Mon 27-May-24 15:16:25

Reform 100%. Read their manifesto.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 15:23:06

They don’t have a manifesto. They have a very badly written ‘draft contract’ and a lot of criticism of Labour and Conservative policies. You are just swallowing the racist propaganda they spout. They are incapable of forming a government.

Fourteen years ago David Cameron promised a dual carriageway north of Alnwick. We’re still waiting for it even though Anne Marie Trevelyan ( who ousted Alan Bleith, an incredibly good LibDem MP) says ‘ the money is there’.

The gender nonsense I referred too is the belief that it's possible to change sex; the erosion of women's spaces; biological men competing against women in sports and the language that pertains to women, being replaced with 'chest feeders', 'people who bleed' and 'people with a cervix'.

I am not comfortable with a PM from any party being either unable or unwilling to say what a woman is. Nor am I comfortable with the Green Party expelling members for speaking the truth that biology determines sex.

Well said 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I'm pretty stuck. I considered Reform UK as an alternative, but I'm not so sure, while the Tories are completely worn out and have a weak leader. Labour have become a lot better since Corbyn was thrown out, but still not convinced by them. Other local alternatives are the Greens( anti nuclear in an area where the nuclear industry has 10,000 workers) or the Lib Dems( voted for them twice in the past, but not convinced these days).

Allex50 Mon 27-May-24 15:52:58

1. You can't trust politicians.
2. The country is bust so whatever they promise it's just that.
3. Non of them are saying they'll fix the NHS, transport or the shit in our rivers.
4. Thatchers policies have bought us down.
5. The quangos are in it for themselves.
5. It's Libs in Dorset so I'll reinforce that.

KG1241 Mon 27-May-24 15:55:02

Absolutely NOT Labour. Starmer had the cheek to say how Labour in Wales is his blueprint for England! OMG! I live in Wales, we have longer NHS waiting lists, more AMs in Welsh Govt, education is down the pan, Wales had the worst PISA results and to top it off £36m spent on forcing us to drive everywhere at 20mph.

Seagull72 Mon 27-May-24 15:57:11

Always vote Labour. Never trust the Tories. The last 14 years have seen our standard of living go down. Survival of the richest is no way to run a society. We will be seeing the effects of this government for many years. Poor education, living and health standards for the majority of the population unless you are wealthy.

HomeAgain123 Mon 27-May-24 16:08:24

That’s as far as I’ve got this week

Lizzie44 Mon 27-May-24 16:27:15

The first time I voted was in October 1964 when Harold Wilson narrowly defeated Alec Douglas-Hulme. I voted Labour then and have voted Labour in every General Election since. Occasionally, in local elections, I have voted tactically but never for the Conservatives. I want a government that puts public and social services at the heart of their beliefs. I want a fairer society, and one that is more caring and compassionate. People are obsessed with taxation, but taxes pay for the services we need and value. Taxation is only bad when it is unfair. It's time to overhaul the current unfair tax systems and dodges - all those offshore accounts etc.
How Keir Starmer will perform as PM is yet to be tested but I do believe that he will work diligently to serve the interests of the country. And I am hopeful that he will put democracy before "chumocracy".

Iam64 Mon 27-May-24 16:31:11

Catching up - on dogs and alcohol indicating your political home, I have a lab and a spaniel, if I could I’d only drink champagne and do so whenever the opportunity arrives. These things point to me voting Conservative.

Nope, I’m Labour. Despite loathing Corbyn, I’m voted Labour because we had an excellent Labour mp. He lost to a conservative by 400 votes so we are hopeful now.

Starmer isn’t weak. He has integrity. I like Streeting and Raynor. Andy Burnham stood twice for the leadership and when he wasn’t the chosen one moved to be our Mayor. He’s an excellent Mayor and insists he wants to keep the job.

Honestly - how anyone can vote Tory after the last 14 years - mystery to me

Devorgilla Mon 27-May-24 16:31:50

I'm with you Lizzie44 on the above and will be voting Labour.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 16:32:58

People are obsessed with taxation - I wonder how much you pay, and paid when working, Lizzie? Will your estate attract inheritance tax when you die?

Arto1s Mon 27-May-24 16:36:51

It is a sad state of affairs when the choices are so untrustworthy and unpredictable. We have exactly the same situation here in the States. I would feel equally irresponsible voting for either of them, or not voting at all. What to do? Dire indeed.

Marg75 Mon 27-May-24 16:41:27

Conservative for me, it's a no brainer. Don't trust Starmer and can't see Rayner in any kind of leadership in this great country of ours.
