Sorry to be dim … what’s NS?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 09:15:19

Search me.

It’s terrible isn’t it? I’ve got to the stage where it hardly registers there’s so much of it, every day.
There’s been knife amnesties, amazing what gets handed in and police do stop and search now and then but it’s reached the stage when so many are armed with knives it’s out of control.

Oreo Mon 27-May-24 09:18:04

NS Nicola Sturgeon.

Urmstongran,
National Service.

You tackle knife crime by helping families and young people to have more positive aims through education and investment in family support. Also by improving police and community relations through more targeted policing and higher numbers of police dealing with knife crime.
By stopping the easy purchasing of lethal weapons on-line.
By better MH services intervening earlier and for longer.
Strong. supportive communities like mine don't have the levels of knife crime the media love to focus on.

Maggiemaybe Mon 27-May-24 09:20:12

National Service?

Shelflife Mon 27-May-24 09:20:21

I agree Nanna, the level of knife crime beggers belief,!!!! How and why has this deplorable situation been allowed to continue for so long. It is devastating, is it seriously mentally ill people who are living amongst us under ' care in the community ' is it people who engage in so much online evil that they are incapable of rational thought ? Like you and many others I am horrified and distressed about what is happening in our country! I don't see much emphasis on this from any political party and I am at a loss to know who to vote for at the general election.

Cross posted. smile

Either Nicola Sturgeon or National Service, yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice😄

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-24 09:25:54

Oh yes National Service. Thank you keepingquiet! Clever you. I must still be half asleep.

More shocking is that it is perfectly legal to sell rambo knives, zombie knives and swords online.

In Luton a 17 year old boy bought 79 knives and swords and killed a man with a 15 inch hunting knife. Police said he had used his mother's ID to buy 39 hunting knives, 15 machetes and 12 swords, among other items, and get them delivered to his home.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz77g16pd95o

How is that even possible? These items should be illegal. And how could the same retailer deliver so many blades to the same person without querying it?

Even more shocking, the blades have all disappeared and no-one knows where they are. The world has gone mad.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-May-24 10:31:22

I have just had a quick Google, there is legislation regarding selling and carrying of knives, it doesn’t appear to be adhered to in many circumstances.

I was horrified to read about the women stabbed on the beach in Bournemouth, one of them fatally. I am very familiar with that lovely sandy beach and the Chine leading down to it. I have walked there often. Also there was a lady stabbed very recently just minding her own business waiting for a bus. That's not to say I'm not horrified by every death by a knife particularly when it's some young boy, their life is over before it's really begun.

I think National Service is a non starter though, I hope the next government does something preventative to try and halt knife crime such a scourge of modern day society.

welbeck Mon 27-May-24 11:24:48

i think a lot of it is connected with drugs, either fighting for pitches, debts etc or perps whose behaviour and personalities have been so disordered by taking illegal drugs.

Coronation Mon 27-May-24 11:32:48

I agree welbeck. Also the dealers are attracted to the money, far easier than taking a minimum wage , zero hours job. They see prison as an occupational hazard.

J52 Mon 27-May-24 12:08:30

Well National Service will give some youth the ideal training for violent crime with knives, guns and commando style attacks.

Casdon Mon 27-May-24 12:15:57

I’ll just drop this and run.

There may well be “ legislation “
It may or not be adhered to but it isn’t stopping knife crimes on our streets !

NanaTuesday Mon 27-May-24 13:00:01

Urmstongran
Exactly that , it has become the norm .
Not even a mention on page three, yet hunt for the words. “ knife crime” and there it is a daily occurrence!!!!

NanaTuesday Mon 27-May-24 13:03:37

Shelflife
Maybe a minority of people who have mental instability but surely not the whole cause ,(?)
Also , yes drug & gang related ie county lines but whichever it is the fact that it IS StILL happening is abhorrent our streets are not safe to walk in even in daylight .
Many are these attacks were daylight ones !!!

Really , not sure what that’s based on !!
Daily knifings , fatalities sometimes 2/3 a day !!!
Down from what may I ask , beggars belief , you carry on believing that poll & you are blinkered .
