Breaking news, just now.

Glorianny, she did brief that she was going to be banned. Those were her exact words, here she is using them.

Of course she used them.
I don't think I have said anywhere she didn't.
I have said if Starmer had behaved properly and the whip had been restored when she completed the required course there would have been no story in the MSM and hence no speech.

I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic or funny in any way on my thoughts about people on the left’s ‘efforts’. I have seen what happened to a few people close to me who have worked their socks off for the Labour Party, through different leaderships, trying to secure a Labour victory. One of them at great cost to his health. One of them was summarily made to leave, before they pushed him from the party for reasons which were never properly explained to him. He is a Labour man through and through, a man of integrity, who has been broken by the experience. So it’s not a case of people on the left working against a Labour victory but a case of being purged, just as I believe DA felt she was going to be purged, for having the wrong views for this particular incarnation.

It’s not good vs bad; Starmer the demigod vs Corbyn the devil; it’s just different ideas, different times, parties move on and evolve and this too shall pass.

Now you’ve lost me *Glorianny, because these were your exact words from the post I responded to.
“Diane Abbott never "briefed that she was going to be banned". The Times picked up on the fact that she was still denied the whip and sitting as an Independent”.

I don’t think it will pass, in the same way that I can’t see the Reform/right of the Tory party passing. I think there will be a split - it’s just when.

Galaxy Sat 01-Jun-24 22:16:54

I dont think there will be a split. I am someone who is driven to distraction by the left (as Glorianny can confirm) but I agree completely with the recent tweet by Paul Embery.
'You cannot eradicate the left from the Labour Party and neither should you wish to. They are a bit mad sometimes but they play an important role as an anchor preventing the party from drifting too far from its historical mission'

I stopped following her on Facebook because I was fed up of her constant criticism of Keir. Bit like Owen Jones.

Freshair Sun 02-Jun-24 01:52:07

She's clearly not well with what looks like Parkinsons disease, and added to that, her age, I think those closest to her should advise her against standing.

Mojack26 Sun 02-Jun-24 05:10:47

Sorry,I couldn't care less

I see in today Sunday Times KS has offered her and others peerages to stand down, so he can put in his "choosen" ones into these safe seats.
Not really surprised.

Yes, it’s on a lot of media.

The HofL is just a well paid retirement home, so I suppose some of them will take the offer.

Iam64 Sun 02-Jun-24 08:08:54

It’s not a bad idea if we are being realistic. DA ‘s health doesn’t really lend itself to the long hours and stresses MPs experience. She could make a positive contribution in the HoL?

Sky News made me laugh, they call them Starmtroopers.

I think the HOL’s has been the only thing keeping the Conservatives in check over the past few years ( not that it has worked) and I’ve been pretty impressed by them. Unfortunately I doubt if Dianne would accept a peerage because it I would assume it would go against her principles. And, much as I’ve been criticising her in some ways I don’t think she would do that.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jun-24 12:27:30

Chakrabarti said on BBC news this morning she is a close friend of Abbott. She joined labour , held an antisemitism enquiry found no antisemitism, moved to the Lords, all this in
less than a year with Corbyn

Don’t be too sure about that😄when it comes to a gong or a title most MP’s are up for it.

“Diane Abbott never "briefed that she was going to be banned". The Times picked up on the fact that she was still denied the whip and sitting as an Independent”.

That was an accusation that she briefed the press not that she used the word banned in a speech. She didn't need to brief the press, the information was widely available and Starmer said on 24th that the matter was "unresolved". He dug his own pit didn't need any help.

Oh yeah! The Chakrabati whitewash, I remember it well.

Glorianny Sun 02-Jun-24 12:48:10

I wouldn't mind Starmer choosing to put people into places if only he chose better people. The Mayor of the North Labour supported has never done anything. She's the ex-Crime and Police Commissioner in Newcastle. Basically sat on her hands and did nothing. Coming after such an active and inspiring woman as Vera Baird she was a complete nonentity. Now she's got a major job, goodness knows what she will do.

It was shocking, Louise Ellman left the party after 55 years

MayBee70 Sun 02-Jun-24 13:51:05

Ireally liked Chakrabati when she used to appear frequently on Question Time ( that was when it was a proper political programme). I have been very disappointed with her in recent years.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jun-24 14:01:35

MayBe I couldn’t/wouldn’t trust her after that whitewash

DiamondLily Sun 02-Jun-24 17:46:43

Chakrabati has advised Abbott to think carefully about whether to stand as an MP.
