How on earth does Sunak think he is going to get away with these whoppers is beyond me.

It’s as if he has a suicide wish.

Very interesting point from a lawyer.

The reason that Starmer didn’t strongly rebutt Sunak over the £2k is that he knew about the letter, and so let Sunak absolutely hang himself last night and this morning —-

BOSH! Starmer is doing what excellent lawyers do.

Let the one in the dock hang himself and then produce the documents to show he has totally lied. The lawyer said it is obvious to a lawyer what Starmer is doing.

He used the same tactic with Johnson

Remember Starmer’s remark “we will put that aside for now”

It's appearing in MSM at last - the Telegraph just brought it up

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/05/general-election-latest-news-rishi-sunak-keir-starmer/

remains to be seen whether its going to be properly exposed for what it is.

It will be interesting to see how Sunak supporters react to this. I fully understand that many people will support his policies - I don't, but I don't expect people to all think the same - but how can this level of duplicity be ok?

Good point, Wwm. He could have been letting Sunak shoot himself in the foot.

For those who are convinced that Labour will bankrupt us or spend all the money (but never give a factual or detailed analysis) - it will not make an iota of difference.

Starmer in action June 2023. - a dish served called😄😄

Keir Starmer to Johnson

“ministers who knowingly mislead parliament will be expected to offer their resignation” I'll leave it there for now”

No of course not, but truth is important - there will be some who are not sure - look at some of the comments on GN - the facts need to be out there.

50 or 60 years of experience.

Absolutely!

A lawyer said on the radio this morning, ‘what we witnessed last was one of the world’s best prosecutors allowing the witness to continue to lie over and over again, then as you say WW … Bosh!

fancythat Wed 05-Jun-24 11:16:20

Yes I know, experience or history doesnt matter much to some people.

This £2000 which was repeated and repeated and repeated by Sunak was very obviously on the instruction of a spin doctor, it came across as very forced, but if something is oft repeated, many will believe it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 05-Jun-24 11:23:52

The BBC, Sky ITV are headlining the lie.

LizzieDrip Wed 05-Jun-24 11:42:37

I think KS was so clever not to cite the evidence about the £2000 being a lie during the debate. He was probably dying to say ‘look mate, we’ve got a letter about this from the treasury’. It might have shut Sunak up, which is not what he wanted to do. Also it would have been easier for the right-wing media to hide it within the general chatter about the debate. Much better to grab this morning’s headlines with the killer letter👍

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Jun-24 12:14:26

The Daily Express has chosen to just lie this morning....no surprise there

MaizieD Wed 05-Jun-24 12:19:36

I posted the letter earlier on the Starmer v Sunak thread, so I hope it's getting a fairly wide audience on GNet..

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 05-Jun-24 12:20:58

The letter merely says that not all the figures put forward by the Conservatives were provided by the Treasury. Some were, some came from other sources. It doesn’t follow that they are incorrect. When Labour’s manifesto is published the cost to each and every one of us of implementing its contents will be clear.

Just look at the other thread which covers some of this. Despite actual facts being given, the Tories on there are obfuscating as usual.

This thread isn’t really about the letter it is about the way Starmer operates as a lawyer does.

The lawyer talking about him and admiring his modus operandi, said that you can see exactly the same method being operated in the PO enquiry.

The letter says that the figures produced by the Treasury are on the govt. web site. The figure of £38billion was not their figure, it was greater and included figures not supplied by the Treasury.

So Treasury advised Ministers not to present their figures as being produced by the Civil Service.

Sunak and his ministers have disregarded that advice. The minister I saw interviewed was extremely clear that they were Treasury figures. A lie.

The lie has greater significance than the non official figures.

I saw no modus operandi. I saw a weak man with no answers - other of course to remind us all yet again that his mother, sister and wife worked in the NHS and his father was a toolmaker. He acted like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Jun-24 13:16:41

We must have been watching a different programme. Starmer made plenty of points - that is when he wasn't being interrupted by the annoying lying wasp.

LizzieDrip Wed 05-Jun-24 13:17:40

Of course that’s what you saw GSM.

I saw Sunak behaving like an arrogant, over-privileged liar who repeated his lie approx 12 times, and constantly reminded us that the ‘plan is working’ - another lie!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 05-Jun-24 13:19:05

Amazing!

The lawyer who spoke about Starmer was a barrister, she spoke very highly of him - perhaps it takes one to recognise another.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 05-Jun-24 13:22:19

Or maybe she was politically biased.
