He has reaped what he sowed in my opinion. I wouldn’t say he was a particularly close ally of Starmer though, where did that suggestion come from?

He’s suggested that racism has played a part in the whole debacle but surely the same questions would have been asked had it been Drakeford doing something similar?

I’d say the Welsh Government has introduced some policies which are further left than Starmer will go, and some which will be adopted UK wide. I don’t think it’s the blueprint in that sense, for devolved matters it is independent.

Seriously though Urmstongran, don’t just read the Telegraph to get a balanced view of what’s happening.

It’s the constitution that allows him to remain in post, not the Labour Party. His defence is that it was not a full vote as two Labour members were absent. But if you asked me if I thought he should resign, I would say yes, I do.

I do try not to Casdon. (Must try harder). Hmm. My teachers used to tell me that.

I doubt that Drakeford would have done anything similar.

Probably not Callistemon but once the suggestion of racism is made it does make it difficult to question Gething’s actions without being accused of it.

Kicking and screaming perhaps? If he won’t resign after a no confidence vote, it shows he has no integrity and is not an honourable man.

It’s rare in politics these days for politicians to resign, the last one I recall in Wales was Paul Davies, Conservative opposition leader during Covid for breaching rules. He was subsequently cleared.

What about Adam Price the Plaid leader Pantglas2, he resigned only last year because he lost the support of his colleagues?

I am a Welsh person living in Wales. I grew up at a time when South Wales was an industrial giant and where the Labour vote could be weighed, not counted.
Unfortunately that is no longer the case and it was the union votes of public service and NHS workers that secured Mr. Gethin the role of First Minister. I believe that only 17% of eligible trade unionists voted but they overruled the choice of the Labour members in the Senate who had voted for Jeremy Miles. So it was a contentious decision from the outset.
I think that Vaughan Gething should do the honourable thing and resign, he is only bringing the role of First Minister into disrepute.
I speak as someone who voted for a Welsh Assembly, but I am sorry now.

There are quite a few of us fancythat, and we do talk about Welsh politics frequently - not as often as Scottish politics is covered though!

I dont know anything about the case.
But nowadays I wince when I hear allegations. Well some.

In real life, I am seeing more and more incidents of people happy to make mischief against another person. With little or no basis in anything.

It backfires on all of them, as they all go off work with stress. But still they do it, and persist.

Perhaps I am baised now to allegations being made against someone. I could be[no, not to me personally or any relative thankfully].

I feel as you do actually. Blair introduced devolution to shore up the Labour vote. And now we are all saddled with his idea - and the cost of upkeep is not in line with its usefulness or value.
