Yesterday we had the bizarre interview with the Tory chairman who answered completely different questions asked by th3 Sky reporter, who in the end gave up and stopped the interview.

Cleverly was just on BBC answering questions getting an easy ride for a few minutes, then he was asked a challenging question about how on earth they were going to pay for their proposed spend and he answered with waffle, then was challenged again and he said

ā€œSorry have to go I’m late for another appointmentā€

And he wentšŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜®

I really have to take issue with Grant (I've-had-every-job-in-government) Schapps for saying that if Labour gain a huge majority then that would be unhealthy for democracy because that would allow them to be unnaccountable.

How dare you Schapps!

Funny how you never said Buffoon Boris having a majority of 80 was dodgy - that majority allowed him (and subsequently Truss and Sunak) to steam-roller through anything they wanted and wreak havoc.

Is that the same Grant Schapps that has operated under several identities in the past?

Sunak didn’t come out of last night’s debate too well, according to the snap poll afterwards:

I'm very disappointed with Grant Shapps. He's a good and helpful MP locally but not suitable for dealing with the rest of the UK.

Some of my family live in Welwyn and think Shapps is dreadful.

Just caught Robert Preston late last night thanking Cleverley for joining him ā€œand saying nothingā€. It did make me laugh.

The usual Tory strategy: spread fear of Labour and offer bribes to the voters. I'm not sure it works after 14 years of making a mess of the UK.

OMG. Remember the bribes Corbyn was offering to young people a few years ago?

Getting rid of Uni tuition fees (which Labour introduced in the first place!) free travel, free childcare, I reckon if he had offered free spliffs he would have got in. 🤣🤣

MayBee70 Thu 13-Jun-24 19:57:24

Well, Scotland have no tuition fees so it can be done.

ronib Thu 13-Jun-24 20:02:14

MayBee70 Scotland’s free university tuition is interesting. I have heard of students unable to find a university place in Scotland and studying in England. No free tuition for some students therefore.

How do you feel about Mr Farage and his promises Primrose?
Perhaps you recall him suggesting that anyone with a non British grandparent be offered a sum of money to return to the country of their origin. No, I haven't invented this.
Perhaps he'll revive the idea now that he's standing again.
I had an Italian grandmother . I quite warmed to the idea.

YouGov announced today that their survey puts Reform ahead of the Tories, maybe Reform will win a few seats but I don’t believe that it will be a significant influence.

nanna8 Fri 14-Jun-24 07:06:12

Whoever wins, you do need a strong opposition. It looks like it will be the Labour Party but if they are more or less unopposed the country will go bankrupt . As for an unopposed Reform party - hold on to your hats, it would be a turbulent time there but in a different way.

Blinko Fri 14-Jun-24 08:51:30

I must say I don't understand this talk of bankruptcy when we're touted as being one of the richest countries in the world. We can't be (nearly) bankrupt too - can we?

David49 Fri 14-Jun-24 08:55:51

Not Bankrupt, Truss showed us just how quickly confidence can evaporate if the wrong messages are sent, Starmers policies seem moderate enough but don’t expect any big changes.

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Jun-24 08:59:37

if they are more or less unopposed the country will go bankrupt

nanna8 can you explain your thinking here? I’m not sure how the two things relate to each other confused

Well, Scotland have no tuition fees so it can be done.

Only cos of Scotland having a very small population, and the even tinier amount of teenagers in Scotland attending universities there.Couldn’t be done in England with the best will in the world.

I agree and think that maybe it’s for the best just at the moment.
Big changes call for big bucks.

Agreed Oreo.

I’d have been very concerned if Labour had promised us the ā€˜moon on a stick’!

With the state of the economy, and particularly public services, after 14 years of Conservative austerity, a cautious approach is what’s needed at the momentšŸ‘

Primrose53 Fri 14-Jun-24 12:27:40

What about the bedroom tax Labour created?
Very unpopular.

Zero hours contract was another of their great ideas. Not.

They created a generation of dependency too. 😢

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Jun-24 12:34:56

What about the bedroom tax Labour created

What???
The bedroom tax was implemented by the Conservatives under David Cameron.

westendgirl Fri 14-Jun-24 12:36:11

So called Bedroom tax was created in April 2012 , as part of Welfare reform Act by David Cameron.

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Jun-24 12:37:32

And in 2016 the policy was extended to pensioners - by the Conservatives!

The UK can't by definition go bankrupt.
