This was sent to me by a friend.

Dinahmo Wed 26-Jun-24 22:45:45

So? Your point is?

BevSec Wed 26-Jun-24 22:51:53

I should have thought that was obvious Dinahmo!

Siope Wed 26-Jun-24 22:57:38

Gawd.

I guess what’s obvious is that your friend doesn’t much care about facts.

Thanks for the link Siope. It was interesting and thank you for researching it for me. Just shows what is going around is not really the facts, but I do feel the same applies to Boris Johnson.

Casdon Wed 26-Jun-24 23:03:10

Straight out of the Reform handbook for the can’t be bothered to check the facts crowd.

LizzieDrip Wed 26-Jun-24 23:16:05

Apparently there are several videos doing the rounds on SM, put out by the Conservatives, making false claims about Labour. Perhaps this message is part of that same propaganda campaign.

I haven’t seen the videos myself, as I’m not on any SM apart from GN, but they were being discussed on The News Agents podcast. The commentators were saying that the videos conveyed out and out lies.

For some politicians, the truth doesn’t appear to matter any more. Sadly, these things get picked up on SM … and believed!

BevSec Wed 26-Jun-24 23:20:28

You are right Lizziedrip, they do get believed but I do feel that is what happened to Boris.

Doodledog Wed 26-Jun-24 23:24:36

So rather than refute ‘what happened to ‘Boris’ you would rather pass on a lie about Keir?

🤔

BevSec Wed 26-Jun-24 23:41:43

I didnt know it was not the whole truth Doodledog. That is what I believe happened to Boris. I have to say the level of aggression on here is high.

Chestnut Wed 26-Jun-24 23:55:38

Whatever, it is partly true and that's bad enough. I am absolutely dreading a Labour government because under Starmer immigration will go through the roof. At least the Tories are making some attempt to control it (albeit weak and feeble) but soon there will be no control.

Johnson lied in parliament. I heard him lie. No idea why he thought he could get away with it. Do you think he should have done?I’ve had some vile election literature today from the Conservative Party which just slags off Keir and lies about all the things that Labour are ‘going to do’.

Imo you should ask for this to be removed now you know it is a lie….

LizzieDrip Thu 27-Jun-24 00:00:27

I must say, if I received a message opening with ‘read this and then pass it on to everyone you know’, I’d be highly suspicious about its contents. Personally I wouldn’t pass it on to anyone until I’d done a fact check.

I wouldn’t want to be used as a propaganda mule!

nanna8 Thu 27-Jun-24 00:28:46

They all lie it seems. Some more than others.

That’s no excuse to spread lying propaganda on social media.

LizzieDrip Thu 27-Jun-24 00:42:27

It gets worse. During tonight’s leaders debate Tory HQ changed the name of their X account to Tax Check Uk. The link below explains it better than I can (I’m not on X).

What is happening in this country?

Merion Thu 27-Jun-24 01:35:57

They did the same ahead of the 2019 election renaming the account factcheckUK in that instance. Full Fact took them to task over it. Same deceitful behaviour whoever is leading the party.

rafichagran Thu 27-Jun-24 04:33:18

I am not a labour or Conservative supporter, but I find passing on inaccurate information like that disgraceful, you should have checked the facts and the inaccuracies before posting that rubbish.
OP, you say posters on here are aggresive, I admit on some threads they can be, but not on this thread, they are challenging the lies and inaccuracies.

MayBee70 Thu 27-Jun-24 06:43:10

I could be wrong but it seems to me that the OP is only on gransnet to bad mouth Keir Starmer and promote Reform. And can’t help but feel they joined gransnet purely to do that…

Nicenanny3 Thu 27-Jun-24 07:27:17

It is true that Mr Starmer, before he was an MP and Leader of the Opposition, represented five asylum seekers as a barrister in a case against the government. However the 2003 case Mr Starmer was involved in did not enable all “illegal immigrants” to receive support.

The case challenged legislation introduced by the then-Labour government, which meant the Home Secretary could refuse support to asylum seekers who didn’t claim asylum as soon as they arrived in the country. The claimants Mr Starmer represented won the case as the judge ruled that the government couldn’t refuse support based on how soon after arrival an asylum claim was made. Asylum seekers received support from the government or local authorities for years before 2003.

Absolutely agree Chestnut!

BevSec Thu 27-Jun-24 07:34:30

Also posters on here do not hesitate to badmouth Boris.

Allsorts Thu 27-Jun-24 07:37:28

Thought everyone knew that. Prepare for the ride after 04 July. By the way I wouldn't vote Reform. I genuinely believe Keir and Corbyn cut from same cloth but they will get in. Sorry for young people but I just hope they battle through as nothing lasts, perhaps the Conservatives will see what a hash they have made of things and work to restore values, will take time but they will have that. If not I can see the problems they have in France coming our way.

He was thrown out of parliament for lying! I don’t understand why you are defending him.
