(241 Posts)Universities would fold with the fees paid by foreign students Casdon - or have to charge UK students much higher fees. Many universities have a lot of student accommodation and of course the students spend into the local economy.

^So it’s in his DNA to care for others and not just himself. Is that really such a bad thing^
Sadly Maybe I think, for Conservatives it is a bad thing. Their proposed ‘welfare reforms’ are a prime example - demonising and causing financial harm to the most vulnerable in our society.
I, for one, don’t want a ‘tax break’ on my pension (which would amount to approx £29 per year BTW) that is funded on the backs of the sick, disabled and vulnerable.
Not in my name: not in my country!

I agree zakoumma. Too ‘polite’ to say it out loud but scratch beneath the surface and wow…

I don’t know if you haven’t understood me Germanshepherdsmum Students and their dependents are included in the total migration figure, which in 2023 was 1.2 million, with 532,000 leaving -as some leave, the following years come. It’s not students and their dependents who account for an overall increase of 685,000, that is the net migration
That was in response to zakoumma’s post.

The thoughts of yet another Reform candidate
‘A candidate standing for the right-wing political party Reform UK in the British general election next month said he would “slaughter” migrants who arrive in the country on small boats and “have their family taken out,” The Times newspaper reported on Wednesday.
It said Leslie Lilley, who is standing in the constituency of Southend East and Rochford, made the threats four years ago on the Facebook account he is now using to run his election campaign. In reaction to reports of a small boat arriving in Dover in June 2020 he said: “I hope I’m near one of these scumbags one day I won’t run away I’ll slaughter them then have their family taken out.”
During the same month, the 70-year-old also complained about “more scum entering the UK” and said: “I hope your family get robbed, beaten or attacked.”
Can’t help but feel that many Reform supporters share that view.
He’s in the Borough right next to me! Many of our “citizens” supporting him do share his views, it’s shocking and frightening.
Any one who would rather see Reform UK in power rather than Labour really does need their head (and their morals) examining.

What is stomach churning is for you to come out with a wild and unfounded accusation like that about unnamed 'people on this site' who you know nothing about. You actually think there are Grans here who want to slaughter migrants? That is truly sick. I'm not going to report it because I think that comment should stand as a testament to the way your mind works.
*The claimants Mr Starmer represented won the case as the judge ruled that the government couldn’t refuse support based on how soon after arrival an asylum claim was made. Asylum seekers received support from the government or local authorities for years before 2003."^ This from FULLFACT fullfact.org/online/keir-starmer-court-illegal-immigrants/ (longer quote from that in a separate post.)
People entering the country illegally get nothing, because they keep a very low profile and don't want to get thrown out. They don't ask for anything and wouldn't get it if they did.
Those who have applied for asylum are not illegal immigrants, and they are entitled to certain minimum benefits while waiting for their case for getting asylum is heard, which has to be within a limited time, and requires them to provide proof that they are in danger where they come from.

As you wish.
I don't think you know me or my mind.
We have one poster in particular who likes to quote " numbers arriving"
To what purpose?

It’s me you need to report because I’m the one who said I think there are people on this forum who share his view. Imo anyone who says they are going to vote for Reform ( or others who are actively encouraging others to vote for them) are endorsing people like him.
Chesnut those posters on GN who say they support Reform, and will vote for Reform, are thereby supporting the views of Reform candidates, one of which is quoted above.
Simple as that!
Report me as well Chesnut.
BevSec I do object to people who only give half a story. Perhaps you should inform your friend of the ‘cab rank rule’.

Thanks for the link Siope. It was interesting and thank you for researching it for me. Just shows what is going around is not really the facts, but I do feel the same applies to Boris Johnson.
Excluding people's opinions of him - which are just that, opinions, and can be agreed with or not...
... in what way do you think Boris Johnson has been misrepresented?
Was I supporting antisemitism when the labour party was dancing with that particular prejudice and I voted for them. I once voted green (obviously I was a bit naive back then) they had a particularly unpleasant child safeguarding incident within the party, do I hold responsibility for that. Crikey I dont agree with half the things Starmer says and I am planning to vote labour. I dont endorse everything Starmer says by voting for him.

Just because a Gran has said they support Reform it doesn't mean they want to slaughter migrants and they do not necessarily support everything that every Reform candidate has said. Get a grip. That is a dreadful thing to accuse people of. By the way, I do not support Reform but like all parties they have good and bad.
Hold on, the post was about Starmer , not Boris. Why not start a post about him. You can't deflect from what Starmer achieve here, simply by saying non of it wasn't true.
Some of it was.
If I am reading this correctly (it’s not very clear) I’m not simply saying none of it is true. I am saying that the Whatever. Some of it is true attitude sums up what people are so sick of. It started with ‘Boris’ (who was brought into the discussion by Bevsec, not me) and has continued with Sunak and his £2000 tax lie.
That is what I meant, so that is what I said.
I will be voting for a party not the head of that party. Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak and others have made mistakes in their past and these will inevitably be picked on in the run up to an election.
I will be voting neither Tory nor Labour but not because of the leaders of those parties but because of the the way I feel about the parties as a whole.
And Reform has let them still stand? A candidate who has espoused murder just 4 years ago?
To return to the O/P: I think that we should all be responsible for checking the facts on dubious SM sources before posting.
I don't want the UK to turn into a country like the US where a huge chunk of people support the "Alternative Facts" movement by the bandying about of allegations as truth
(was replying to the post on the Reform Candidate upthread)
I have heard reports of boatloads waiting until Starmer gets elected before making the crossing 😱
That wouldn’t surprise me.
Where did you hear that BevSec, on a Reform conspiracy website? Do post us your source so we can check out the veracity?
