This was sent to me by a friend.

Jane 43 I was interested to read the link from a chambers about the Cab Rank Rule , which I am quoting here in case some posters missed it.
A Barrister must take instruction regardless of :
the identity of the client
the nature of the case
whether the client is paying privately or is publicly funded
any belief or opinion you may have formed as to the character, reputation, cause, conduct, guilt or innocence of the client.
I'm surprised this wasn't put forward before by one of our legal eagles.

Where did you hear that BevSec, on a Reform conspiracy website? Do post us your source so we can check out the veracity?

I read that too and it definitely wasn't on a Reform website, it was on MSM somewhere. Just wait until next week, the numbers will skyrocket. They know Starmer will welcome them with open arms. Like most people, I am for controlled immigration, but when Labour take charge there will be no control.

Do find it and post Chestnut. People need to provide sources.

I'm sorry, I can't find something I read several days ago somewhere I can't remember! I just wanted to confirm it was not on a Reform website, it was on MSM.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 14:50:21

It’s not up to Chestnut to find a link, it’s down to BevSec.

LizzieDrip Thu 27-Jun-24 15:02:58

Oh what a pity you can’t remember where you read that report BevSec and Chestnut. I’ve searched and searched but can’t find anything … and I’d be interested to read it. But if you say you don’t remember, then you don’t remember.

You didn't look very hard. I just had a quick look and found it in the Telegraph and that isn't where I read it first.

Another article says 'Angela Rayner says every part of Britain will take fair share of migrants' which means 'if we spread them out to every town and village people won't notice a few million more'.

Elegran Thu 27-Jun-24 15:53:29

Was it the one referred to here, Casdon ?

I suspect the opposite - more people will notice!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 16:03:46

They would certainly be noticed round here.

Cleverly refers to "Labour’s plans to allow migrants to claim asylum, which would “instantly increase the appeal of making the perilous journey across the Channel”. but there is nothing new in allowing migrants to make a claim APPLYING for asylum - they have a right in international law to APPLY in their country of arrival to be allowed to legally remain there. That is in The Illegal Migration Act 2023 legislation passed by a Tory Government. Their application has to be assessed and they have to prove that they are in danger in the country from which they have left.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 16:10:10

Or get a lefty lawyer to make up a story for them and/or advise them to get baptised/pretend to be gay.

Elegran Thu 27-Jun-24 16:14:20

Are you saying that our currently most prominent left-leading lawyer is likely to make up a story for a client, GSM ? I hope not. That could get you in trouble for slander (or is it libel/ ) which wouldn't go down well in your professional circles.

Chestnut Thu 27-Jun-24 16:16:44

Well I think they've been noticed in many towns already but what can anyone do?

I just find the words 'every part of Britain will take its fair share of migrants' very ominous. It sounds like a huge wave is coming.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 16:29:02

As I’m sure you know, Elgran, I’m talking about the grubby little law firms who depend on legal aid to represent illegal immigrants, who we as taxpayers effectively pay and who take vast amounts out of the legal aid budget. Lawyers who are strangers to ethics and the truth, hence some have been struck off.

I too find it ominous Chestnut. My son lives in a beautiful village which adjoins one in which there is an asylum seekers’ centre. They are seen wandering aimlessly around my son’s village, where as a result of the nearby centre the property market is absolutely dead. They have been placed in a totally inappropriate rural area with no services. However, I realise that Rayner’s intelligence is limited so this is not something she would understand, let alone care about. I wonder if Labour are preparing ‘Immigrants Welcome’ signs, a la Mutti?

Yes, of course he will. In fact he'll regularly be patrolling the beaches holding a placard saying "welcome to the UK".

hmm

Seriously, he may not have a plan that you agree with, and his plan may not even be a game-changer but he isn't going to be "welcoming them with open arms" for crying out loud.

Honestly, this kind of debate is really scraping the barrel.

MaizieD Thu 27-Jun-24 16:53:54

I'm not sure that the hysterical hyperbole we're being subjected to actually qualifies as 'debate', Dickens hmm

MayBee70 Thu 27-Jun-24 16:54:26

He will probably have a plan for returning people who aren’t granted asylum here back to their country of original. As it stands with the lack of organisation under the Tories they just stay here and disappear.

What a horrible snobbish thing to say about Rayner.

Chestnut Thu 27-Jun-24 16:56:37

I didn't mean literally (with open arms) but there are migrants waiting until next week before launching their boats so they must have some idea of what to expect. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see, then resume this discussion in six months when we can see where the land lies.

Really and pigs might fly 😂

How can they be returned to their own country when most of them have destroyed their ID papers.

You really are naive.

GSM has just posted a seriously worrying story about the migrants and all you can worry about is a mention of Angela Rayner! What is your response to the story?

MayBee70 Thu 27-Jun-24 17:01:01

Well, for one thing her reference to grubby little lawyers is pretty unpleasant, too.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 17:02:16

MayBee, there are countries of origin to which asylum seekers are not returned. Sunak made it very clear in last night’s debate that Starmer will not be negotiating with the leaders of those countries. It’s no good saying ‘he probably has a plan to return people to their countries of origin’. He doesn’t. You seem to rely on blind faith.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 27-Jun-24 17:05:29

Do you approve of lawyers who are paid by the taxpayer to invent stories for their clients, advise them to get baptised, advise them to pretend they are gay, MayBee? I don’t. It’s unethical and it’s grubby.
