Keir starmer

I have heard reports of boatloads waiting until Starmer gets elected before making the crossing 😱
They don't have to wait though do they Bev. The current government has done nothing about the issue except for a terrifyingly expensive scare tactic which amounts to populist sound bites and in any event relies on a reciprocal arrangement.
The fact is that uncontrolled immigration will not stop. No government of whatever persuasion has the means to do that and if they say they have, they are being untruthful. More efficient processing would help but it won't be a finite answer.
We are going to see in the coming decades many more people fleeing their countries due to destabilising wars (the West is far from innocent in that respect) and climate change.
Parts of the world will become increasingly uninhabitable. It's already started. This isn't going to go away.
Perhaps growstuff you would explain what I don’t seem to be aware of.
Absolutely agree GSM, it definitely affects house sales and safety issues, you are right that the culture is different to ours and in relation to white women. I spoke to someone involved with the illegal immigrants, he said they put their own comfort before women and children, and this from someone working with them.
As flappergirl says, no need to wait, BevSec. As I posted upthread, the current government have done no processing or taken any other measures against migrants for months
because they had planned to drop us into an election once it became clear Rwanda was never going to do the work.
At the same time, be aware there is a lot of scaremongering going on atm.
Reform is not an option as they cannot return boats to France (we've been into this) nor can they just load migrants into planes and drop them off (countries have to agree to landing)
I didn’t report your post growstuff, but whoever did, thank you. It was uncalled for.
I think Flappergirl made some valid points, uncontrolled immigration will not stop. We have worrying times ahead of us.

Where did you hear that BevSec, on a Reform conspiracy website? Do post us your source so we can check out the veracity?
I read that too and it definitely wasn't on a Reform website, it was on MSM somewhere. Just wait until next week, the numbers will skyrocket. They know Starmer will welcome them with open arms. Like most people, I am for controlled immigration, but when Labour take charge there will be no control.
Do find it and post Chestnut. People need to provide sources.
It has been common knowledge for some time that Keir Starmer defended this case. As I said before the case was allocated to him under the cab rank rule. I don’t know why people are so outraged over him doing his previous job as a barister. Many outcomes of court cases are used as precedents for future cases, it happens all the time. As it is emerging on Channel 4 news many Reform candidates have extreme racist views and before anybody jumps on board the Reform train they should ask themself if they really want to support racism.
As it is emerging on Channel 4 news
Emerging? It was obvious form the start.

What a load of nonsense.
" the culture"
Which culture? Persian culture? Arabic culture
Off the top of my head, 2 very different things.
Yes, lets actually see what they have said
just google Daily Mail Leslie Lilley Candidate Southend East and Rochford
In a Facebook account post in June 2020 he commented on the arrival of a small boat in Dover, saying:
I hope I'm near one of these scumbags one day. I won't run away, I'll slaughter them then have their family taken out
*Within weeks he posted again, railing against 'more scum' entering the UK.
I hope your family get robbed, beaten or attacked', he added, according to The Times*
Mr Lilley is one of 41 Reform candidates who are 'friends' on Facebook with the fascist leader Gary Raikes (pictured), a former organiser for the British National Party and who now heads the New British Union, modelled on Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists
Mr Lilley also suggested that razor wire should be carried by Border Force guards to tear the boats making the dangerous journey across the Channel
IN the same article:
And another candidate, Malcolm Sedgley, Reform candidate in Meriden and Solihull East
has likened the Royal Family to 'Nazis' and branded the late Queen a 'tax avoiding OAP on benefits
'Just because the Royal Family believe they have an almost divine right to rule because of their superior genetics, and that the plebs should swear allegiance to them and show deference at every opportunity, doesn't make them Nazis. Oh... hang on
He didn’t defend the case Jane. He acted for those who made the challenge to the law. I don’t know how you know that the case was allocated to him under the cab rank rule, but barristers can and do get around that.
Zakouma66 i am not intending to defend myself, i know how I feel, I am entitled to feel worried about a large influx of young muslim men, i have a friend who is a teacher ie educated. She said women in this country will lose our freedoms. People are desperately worried and I do not understand why you cannot respect this.
Yes, I understand this.

It doesn't bother me. I'm not going to be called a liar by you or anybody else and I'm not going to be interrogated about where I have lived. As it so happens, in the past I lived about a mile away from where the asylum seekers are; my former husband and son still live there; my former husband is a property developer and owns a number of properties nearby; I have friends who still live there and I have in total lived within a couple of miles for 40 years. How dare you claim I know no more than a tourist?

One person's views (even if she is educated) doesn't make something true.

I think BevSec was unintentionally ironic here, given what Reform’s views about women appear to be - very close indeed to the views of repressive cultures.
Watching ch 4 news - on Reform - what a foul mouthed, ignorant, lot they are. I would be embarrassed to share a room with them in the pubs they like to frequent let alone vote for such creatures.
Anyone voting for such a mob are either in denial or similar in character - I can’t think of any other reasons why on earth you would do so.
I have not called you a liar growstuff. Nor have I asked where you live or said that you know no more than a tourist. All that is a nasty twisting of words. As I have said, my son lives in the next village where, before the asylum centre came along, property was much in demand and sold quickly. I lived just five miles up the road for over twenty years before moving to Norfolk. My grandparents lived near the air base when it was still in use. So I have very much more local knowledge than you might think. When the base became redundant it was expected that it would be redeveloped with housing. Then along came the asylum seekers and it has totally blighted my son’s village other than for tourism. When they go - if they ever do - a prison will probably be built but the immediate problem is the impact of the asylum seekers who are free to wander around at will - as you must know. And from what Rayner says that will likely be the fate of many communities around the UK. It’s not what you expect in a pretty little English village, said to be the most photographed in the country.

I am perplexed by this " free to wander " thing. What would you have them do?
Things change, life changes, communities change.
GSM could you explain to me what the asylum seekers are doing wrong when they’re ’wandering about’?
Isn’t ‘wandering about’ exactly what tourists do? You seem happy enough with their wandering
I would prefer that they were detained until their asylum applications were determined, by which time hopefully those with criminal backgrounds would have been weeded out and refused asylum. Gangs of young men roaming around are intimidated, especially to women.
Use your imagination Lizzie.

You’re in luck then GSM because, under a Labour government, asylum claims will be processed swiftly - unlike the Tories who haven’t been processing claims, in order to make the asylum seeker issue appear worse than it is.
You use highly emotive language when referring to asylum seekers e.g. gangs; intimidating. Why isn’t a ‘gang’ of male tourists ‘intimidating’ to women?
