What are Labour going to moan about if they win the election?

There might well be a lot of Labourites with a lot of time on their hands if they win the election.

What are they going to do because they won't be able to moan anymore about the state of the country? If the wind blows the wrong way, that’s Conservatives fault, if your local shop is out of bread that’s their fault too - everything is their fault!

Maybe they will study Angela Rayner’s little book on How to Insult Conservatives where she called them “homophobic, racist, misogynistic scum. Absolutely vile, banana republic. Nasty Etonian pieces of filth” and remind themselves what the old days were like.
Even old Corbyn said “we are going to be the nicer, kinder type of politics”. 🤣🤣🤣. What ever happened to that Angela?

I think I said before that in a year from now people will be moaning about all the same things and a few new ones.

Why are people being so mean about Angela Rayner?

Snobbery

They will be too busy getting the country back on its feet to moan- even though taking over from the last 14 years of Tory shambles will give them plenty of stuff to moan about.

For the next 5 years absolutely everything that goes wrong will be the fault of the Conservatives and the legacy they left. Nothing will be their fault.

How familiar that will be, the Tories were still blaming Labour for everything 14 years after they were first elected!

nanna8 Fri 05-Jul-24 03:41:56

Yes - no one takes responsibility for their own actions, sadly.

Joseann Fri 05-Jul-24 06:15:27

They'll moan that they don't collect half the money that they thought they would on the 20% VAT added to school fees. So they can't possibly find 10 million new Maths teachers, or however many they said they would.
Mark my words!

I'm back to France

Joseann Fri 05-Jul-24 06:19:02

....... next month for a holiday. They'll be moaning there too. And no doubt throwing explosive things, as they do.

Rekarie Fri 05-Jul-24 06:22:26

People will moan about anything. We love to moan.

I don't moan about Angela though. I like her. She's not robotic. Which is quite unusual these days.

I'm really looking forward to a kinder sort of politics, along with a kinder set of postings on GN.

Me too, especially kinder comments on gransnet. Many replies to some comments on these forums are quite nasty for no reason at all.

I look at it this way, it can't get any worse, can it???

I'm pretty sure nanna8 that the Conservatives, over the last 14 years, have done their fair share of blaming Labour's legacy "when things go wrong".

What's more - 'things' are already wrong right now - which is why the electorate has voted overwhelmingly for Labour - and they've gone wrong under a Conservative government which Starmer, somehow, has to try to resolve.

I have absolutely no idea how well he will do or how he will perform or behave when, inevitably, 'things' don't go according to plan - but neither do you.

I believe the Tories, in Opposition, will do exactly what Starmer did in Opposition - attack and blame the party in power. Because that's their job.

I remember when Keir Starmer became leader him saying that Labour would avoid constantly attacking the conservative government because he wanted more consensus and a less aggressive parliament. He was then blamed for being weak. I thought he showed strength and decency.
I hope I am not disappointed.

I think they will be starting threads about how wonderful they think the Labour government is doing.

That’s not moaning JenniferEcckes, unless the word has changed meaning.

I do not think that Labour voters are daft enough to think that they have a magic wand or that it is not going to take a long time to turn things around and get their policies moving.

It is not a question of "blaming", but of fact. They will have to deal with what they find in front of them and a lot of that will be down to the actions of the previous government - that is always the case with a new government. Nothing new there.

Voting Labour is not an indication of stupidity! They know that it will all take time.

I so agree with that. The opposition's job is to ask the right questions not to engage in sill personal slanging matches.

Luckygirl3 Mon 08-Jul-24 12:33:34

I find the whole premise of this thread very juvenile - it is like the politics of the playground.

silverlining48 Mon 08-Jul-24 12:33:53

Well let’s hope it won’t be half as bad as it has been.

We would still be waiting for 45,000 new doctors, thousands more nurses, teachers etc etc, 40 new hospitals, saving 350 million £ every week as advertised on Brexit buses, and on and on I could go, but won’t.

However while the poor struggle we have many more squillionaires than ever before, so that’s ok, for some.

JenniferEccles Mon 08-Jul-24 13:19:13

Yes apologies, my mistake.
I should have said there will be enthusiastic claims about how well the new government is doing.

Pythagorus Mon 08-Jul-24 13:38:00

I think every new government should be given a chance.
Listened to the new Chancellor banging on about the terrible situation they have inherited. And that is relevant because?
Just get on with it woman. You say you can do better so just go do it.
The problem I see is there are so many differing factions, there will be a lot of infighting.
We do need a strong opposition or weird things could get pushed through! We don’t have an effective opposition. Let’s see how it goes!
