MissAdventure

Which channel are you watching, MayBee?

I was watching the live results in The Guardian website. I couldn’t leave it because I was waiting for the Derbyshire results. Catherine and Samantha have both won for Labour. But horrified at the votes for Reform.

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 04:19:41

Are there any decent Conservatives left?

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:20:43

Phew!
Can't take anything for granted tonight.

Mps are in and out like fiddlers elbows!

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 04:29:22

Badenoch or Braverman to contest the Conservative Party leadership?Who else is there? Will Truss retain her seat when decent Conservative MP’s have lost their seat because of her?

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 04:31:44

Wes Streeting has only just clung on.

Wes Streeting has only just clung on.

Has he? Who was second?

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:37:15

It's certainly been interesting, this disparity amongst the votes.

I don’t know. Only 200 seats in it. As with Jonathan Ashworth the Muslim vote was against them because of Gaza and I assume they were up against independents.

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 04:42:35

Sunak holds on with a good majority.

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 04:43:32

Hunt holds. Maybe he’ll be next leader? The lesser of many evils. What will Sunak do now? He’s said he’d stay for the next 5 years. I bet he wishes he’d lost because then he could have just gone to America.

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:45:15

Sunak was very reasonable.

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 04:47:28

Jeremy Hunt also clings on. He looks rough as.

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:48:24

Nicola looks worn out.
I think she is flagging a bit.

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 04:49:46

Crossed post again! I also just saw Therese Coffey has gone

MissAdventure

Sunak was very reasonable.

I thought so too.

How people can look so calm, when chaos reigns, is always beyond me.

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:52:42

He was very gracious,I thought

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:53:59

It just occurred to me that he looked somewhat relieved,as if a weight had been lifted.

I imagine the last place she wants to be right now is on the telly.

Doodledog Fri 05-Jul-24 04:55:29

It probably has, MissA. It must feel like having a tooth out after the past few months.

Pantglas2 Fri 05-Jul-24 04:56:44

Morning all…as expected our local Labour candidate has gained our seat with a healthy majority with the previous Tory mp being pipped into 3rd place by Plaid Cymru!

I said previously I’ve never won on election night and sure enough it’s happened again (did win at bingo though 😂) but I’m pleased that Plaid have gained another 2 seats, now 4 in total!

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 04:56:49

I'm no good at the cut and thrust of politics.
I end up feeling sorry for everyone.

Litterpicker Fri 05-Jul-24 04:59:18

Jeremy Hunt has hung on to his seat but he looks wrecked.

Rishi Sunak’s speech was dignified and statesmanlike - first time I’ve been impressed by him.

Scotland has gone back to Labour by the look of it.

Alliance party candidate has won in Lagan Valley (Northern Ireland). A hopeful sign.

I think I might have to give in and go to bed. Thanks to Whitewavemark for starting this thread and all contributors who I have been following with interest, in between keeping an eye on Twitter/X and The Guardian. I switched between BBC and C4 with a brief look in at ITV and GB News.

Good morning Pantglas smile
Have you got your chamber pot of tea?

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 05:01:09

Mogg is out!!! smile

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 05:01:23

The Rees-Mogg moment! He went seconds before Labour reached the 326 seats needed.
