Gavin Plumb is being sentenced after plotting to kidnap, rape and murder Holly Willoughby. The judge is going through an appalling list of past offences

This man is morally and physically repugnant, will likely fail to convince a parole board in 15+years time that he is a reformed man. He is the kind of incel who likely follows the philosophy of the repellent Tate brothers, believing that he needs to act like a "real man" to attract a woman. Although his physical attributes should not overshadow his crimes, the thought of him sexually abusing or raping a woman made me feel sick, how any man like him would think that he is physically attractive to a woman is beyond me

Sorry love should mean life, not having a look in 15 years time!

Absolutely right, 'life should me life' but we need new legislation for that

We have got people serving “all of life” but that’s usually at a Judge’s discretion, backed up by the Home Secretary.

He won't even serve half his sentence as the prisons are so full that some prisoners are being released after serving less than half...what justice is that..

That is not true - he will not be eligible for parole for 15 years and hopefully, please God, he will not be considered suitable at that point

I believe that prisoners involved in sexual assaults, domestic violence, or terror-related crimes, are among those who are not going to be released early.

Nor those who are just starting their sentences.

15 years doesn't seem much for the magnitude of what he was planning. 3 life sentences to run concurrently says 1 life sentence to me. Make him serve those 3 life sentences consecutively. Making him 82.

He got away very lightly when charged with previous offences.

When will life mean life?

This monster is a danger to women and girls and should never be released, never have access to a phone or any communication with the outside world again.

Apparently his plans were so depraved that they can't be reported. I imagine that the policy and the jury will need counselling.

I don't know but I assume the judge had to follow certain 'guidelines' when passing sentence.

Plumb maintained that it was just 'fantasy' - which the judge clearly didn't believe - but what is the tariff for what he did, which is plan a crime but not execute it?

If Plumb had not committed those previous assaults - kidnap - which the judge took into consideration, it's possible he would serve even less time!

The very description 'a life sentence' is of course misleading, it is not a whole life sentence.

From what I understand (very little) a court takes into consideration everything they know about the defendant, any other offences, and their pattern of behaviour.

What we have learned about this repugnant individual from his past assaults against women - and what his ex partner has said about the way he treated her - it does seem to be rather a light sentence for a man who appears to have a pathological need to abuse, torture and kill.
