It's not at all unlikely - in America. I'm sure he, and his security, will be aware of the possibility.

We have all heard of ‘copy cat’ crimes and it only takes one other unstable individual who has been influenced by extreme views of Trump spouted by some on the Left.

I would remind you of the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband by hammer-wielding David DePape whose blogs and Facebook accounts were awash with right-wing conspiracy theories. In spite of the fact that some insisted the writings were fake and only made falsely after the attack in order to incriminate DePape. Fortunately, a screen-shot of the blogs were taken prior to the attack. In his police interview, Mr DePape described Nancy Pelosi as the "leader of the pack of lies told by the Democratic Party", adding that he wanted to "break her kneecaps".

"Extreme views" spouted by extremists come from both left and right.

Wasn't it Trump who said that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and people would still vote for him? You can't really get much more extreme than that. It was a view which would have been better left unsaid, even if thought and believed.

Is anyone else beginning to be irritated by attacks on ‘the left’? What is the left? On gransnet it seems you’re dismissed as left if you want a good criminal justice system, or a safe route for people fleeing war and seeking asylum.

Let's be clear, this was not an attack from "the left". There is no evidence whatsoever that Matthew Crook was politically motivated and all evidence points to the lone shooter as we've gone into above.

If there is some evidence, then you know more than the FBI does!

For me the important one is the one that has the strongest direct evidence:

Attempted voter fraud by Trump directly in Georgia count at the last election (becuase I think the Capitol offence is harder to prove)

When Trump attempts to bully Raffensperger led Raffensperger to record telephone calls

Trump told Raffensperger, "What I want to do is this. I just want to find, uh, 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state

During the phone call, Trump falsely suggested that Raffensperger could have committed a criminal offense by refusing to overturn the state's election results
