To be able to buy your way into an election to this extent - something very wrong here. (Whichever side) Can't help feeling - money could be spent on schools to update equipment or to help in the lack of medical care in the USA.

To which of course the answer will be that we shouldn't question 'God's plan'. A rather convenient way to dismiss another's death.

It defies logic and reason. And I believe that is where the danger lies with Trump. For some, he is a cult-figure with a cult following.

When he said he could probably shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and people would still vote for him, he showed an extraordinary understanding of the phenomena. And he's probably right.

He's dangerous. As is his running mate.

I think the widow wouldn't talk to Biden because her husband was a Republican.
I think Melania is well off put of the picture, as was Victoria Starmer. I wish Mrs. Biden would do the same, as did Mrs. Sunak.

I was reading about Melania recently. Apparently she cried when Trump won the Presidency. She’s brought up her son shielding him almost completely from the limelight. Unfortunately Trump seems to be pulling him in now he’s 18. Melania has the good sense to stay out of the limelight, unlike some other First Ladies and PM wives in this country. Mrs Sunak stayed out of the spotlight too.

well, if this is an indication of 'God's plan', I don't like it

There are religious people who believe their God can affect events in peoples individuals lives and those that believe that its humans that affects human lives as we were given (if you believe in a god) human choices to make.

From the beginning of time we have seen wars and dictatorships claiming "God's on my side" its hard to see Trump's claiming God has a special interest in him as anything but arrogant and abusive to others (God clearly not being "on their side, they then become lesser beings).

It’s beyond me how someone who has spoken about women the way that Trump has, spoken horribly about what happened to Nancy Pelosi’s husband etc etc seems to think that God is supporting/protecting him in some way. And that people are believing him. I’ve decided that, terrified as I am of another Trump presidency I can do nothing about it and I’m not going to let him ruin the latter years of my life. I really thought I’d seen the back of him. His running mate sounds even worse.

We must get used to it I think- it looks like Trump will be the next President at this stage unless the Democrats do something pretty quick smart about their leader.

The possibility of that dreadful man becoming POTUS does not mean that we should have to get used to his abusive ways.

I’m so afraid of Ukraine being defeated and destroyed by Russia. I’m also afraid of what Putin might do next.

Needless to say, the reaction to the shooting is "get more guns to protect yourself" (been googling to check reactions). ...and it suits their narrative to have the "lone shooter" responsible as opposed to a political plot or a society wide problem.

It looks like their focus will be the Middle East insofar as any involvement outside an isolationist policy.

What terrified me immediately after the shooting was the look on peoples faces and their aggressive hand gestures. It makes me think of something out of The Hunger Games.

My gut feeling is that Russia will be given the Ukraine territory that they want and that Ukraine will then join NATO. Then heaven help us all if Russia then decide they want to take more land. In that I think that Trumps new running mate is right. Ukraine will never defeat Russia . I’m terrified of the links between Trump, Putin, Bannon etc. And I’m sure Putin is pulling a lot of strings.

Normally there is a strong reaction from the anti-gun lobbies after an incident, but less so atm. Speculations are that they are wary because its so highly party politicised this time.

As friends with the US traditionally you wonder where the UK and Australia and New Zealand will stand if Trump is President. Quite concerning in so many ways.

If JD Vance continues his ridiculous rhetoric about Britain now being an Islamist state, then it's quite likely those stupid (and I make no apology for using the word) Republicans who actually believe it to be true, will clamour for more of the same oratory. And that will spur Trump along his "America First" worldview, and two fingers up to Ukraine.

Fortunately, I'm sure there are Republicans - sans MAGA baseball and cowboy hats - who realise this is hard-right scaremongering.

... but this is a man who once suggested that Trump might be America's Hitler and also described him as an idiot. Clearly, he's done a remarkable volte-face so might change his mind about Britain, who knows - if he's advised to tone-it-down a bit.

People were worried about what type of trade deal we might get under Biden, goodness only knows what type of deal we might now get as an 'Islamist state'!

My worry is that Vance is projecting himself as a simple working-class boy from the Rust Belt, and all those disaffected Rust-Belters will believe everything he says.
