Well well.

Everything depends on the next 2 or 3 weeks who the democrats back and how much the new candidate appeals to voters. Harris has an advantage now but a few wrong words could change all that, being a black woman an is a disadvantage, colour didn’t stop Obama but he was a exceptional orator, will Harris match up?.

Rekarie Mon 22-Jul-24 07:44:55

There's much discussion about how long Biden has been deteriorating.

MSM has not shown a lot of Biden's decline but footage can be seen on social media.

Casdon Mon 22-Jul-24 07:54:00

I’ve seen lots of information about Trump’s psychological profile and mental deterioration too, the internet is full of it. That will no doubt be the next focus of the Democrats’ campaign, with a younger candidate in the driving seat. I’m glad I’m watching from afar, not close to.

NotSpaghetti Mon 22-Jul-24 08:01:08

Not sure Harris will be the candidate though. I think it's a risk - as it will be a bit like a coronation by the "top" Democrats.

She may need to fight for it as there are more electable candidates I think.

ronib Mon 22-Jul-24 08:16:54

NotSpaghetti the more electable candidates will be around in the future. Harris won’t stand again if she is unsuccessful this time. As we think will happen whether we agree or not in the Uk.

Donald Trump is going to win “bigly” … 😁

That will be a terrible day. I honestly don't know how people could vote for that man as President.

I do recall Urmstongran predicting a big win for Trump in the last election too - it’s not over until it’s over.

I just took this from CNN.

‘While members of Trump’s orbit have publicly said they hope Harris replaces Biden at the top of the ticket, privately, there is some concern about any and all potential candidates, knowing that any change could potentially boost enthusiasm within the Democratic party ahead of the election and therefore increase turnout, two sources close to Trump told CNN.

Trump’s team had been hoping former President Joe Biden would stay in the race.’

I too thought Trump would win in 2016. So much so that I put money on it when the odds were low.
I’ve done the same this time.
My betting on him has nothing to do with liking/disliking him, personally I think he’s wired wrong.
It’s understanding human nature.
Some wonder how the black/ Latino support has risen for Trump. It happened when he went to court. The people mentioned above now see Trump as one of them.

David49 Mon 22-Jul-24 09:01:13

There always has been migrant support for right wing candidates in any election, they are not all in poverty, many have got their own small businesses going a doing very nicely.
Most migrants travel overseas because they WANT to work and increased taxes is not popular, that’s just as true of Mexicans as any that come to the UK

nanna8 Mon 22-Jul-24 09:31:32

Yes , I could point you to a couple of people we know who migrated here with their families from Eastern Europe in the 1950s with absolutely nothing. Both are now multi millionaires through hard work and perseverance. There are many the same.

Does anyone know whether KH is strong enough to know her own weaknesses and will listen and take advice about a running mate? If she’s able to ignore tTrump’s personal attacks and pounds back about his age she could unnerve him.

Wyllow3 Mon 22-Jul-24 09:54:04

Trump campaign is going gall out for Harris, but they are hampered by not knowing if she is actually going to be the candidate.

Actually what appals me in the article is the way absolutely enormous amounts of money Trump has to throw at the public

There's a really informative podcast on This is Politics which came through today in response to Biden stepping down from re-election. Scaramucci and Kay + Campbell and Stewart discussion on what might happen. S, K and C are very complimentary about KH and feel she's been kept away from the limelight by Biden. Really worth a listen as S and K are well informed and have excellent contacts in both the Democratic party and Republican party.

True, but a man who appears strong and vigorous and successful and wealthy.
I wonder if the US really welcomes the thought of a female President?

Could you please source your information on Trump being succesful ? All of his businesses were a failure .
He has no more wealth he is scraping around for money. To pay his court costs, fines and lawyers . He has since sold two of his properties .

I also understand that there are many bills for arena and security outstanding.

Trump would be a disaster for the USA and the world. The Democrats must pull out all the stops to beat him and when that happens the Republicans must strengthen the sinews to ditch him for good.

Yes, Foxie
It's the one I linked to yesterday if anyone is interested:

I'm no longer sure where it is as we now have 2 threads about Biden resigning - this one and the earlier one.
I'm finding it confusing!
Sorry if you've all seen it before.

Wyllow3 Mon 22-Jul-24 12:46:20

It is confusing as interesting information being missed. I can’t do copy post to link threads.

Dynawritecat Mon 22-Jul-24 13:04:26

Dear heaven above I hope not.

semperfidelis Mon 22-Jul-24 13:10:27

Joe HAS endorsed Kamala. Some wild assertions on here! She is, after all, the Vice President.

rocketship Mon 22-Jul-24 13:29:02

Urmstongran

Biden refuses to endorse Kamala Harris.

President Biden has completely endorsed his Vice-President Kamala Harris!! ... and so have a number of prominent Democrats.

Not sure where you heard otherwise~~~

Urmstongran Mon 22-Jul-24 13:40:24

Try reading the whole thread rocketship! 😁

Urmstongran Mon 22-Jul-24 13:41:40

Blimey.
You too semperfidelis.

Romola Mon 22-Jul-24 13:55:58

Unfortunately, I don't see Kamala Harris beating Trump.
If the Democrats were to put up a youngish, vigorous male candidate, it would make a contrast with the ghoul that is Trump. He is behaving as if he were the Messiah. His life story says he is not.

Nannynancy Mon 22-Jul-24 13:58:39

I think (hope) Trump will dig his own grave. If Kamala gets in he will have to watch every word he insults her with, thinking racist/misogynistic. He won’t be able to help himself. If another runner gets in, ie Gavin Newsome, then it’s anyone’s race. Hopefully the Democrats.
Ps
Is it just me or was it comedy gold when all Trumps supporters wore a bandage on their ear at his rally?

Pammie1 Mon 22-Jul-24 14:00:53

Harris may swing it if enough women vote. Given that Trump appointed three of the judges who voted to overturn Roe v Wade which has made a nonsense of womens’ reproductive rights, he’s not a good choice if there’s to be any chance of rowing back any of the changes that have been implemented as a result. Not to mention that a rapist, misogynist and convicted felon isn’t a good look for the leader of the free world.
