We will lose the benefit and that is fine by us. I think older people, especially those like us who are comfortably off, should be expected to make a contribution to sorting out the country's economic situation.

So many on here were convinced Labour would do great things. How wrong they were. Don’t say you weren’t warned. 😉

Imagine if the Conservatives had stopped the cost of living payments and the winter fuel payments. This board would be littered with vile remarks about Tory scum, filth, robbing b******s.

Spot on!

A prescription prepayment certificate in around £120 pa (last time I looked) and that buys all your medication for a year.

Labour showing their true colours. Yet come over on a dinghy having paid not a penny in and get free accommodation lovely and warm as well I would guess in winter, free food, pocket money, extra money if you are pregnant, extra money for each child etc etc. Wonderbar.

Nicenanny8

It makes you realise everything about this is so wrong 😑

maddyone Mon 29-Jul-24 21:43:35

Yes kitty thank you, I know that because before I became eligible for free prescriptions I used to buy a yearly prepayment certificate. I guess I’d have to go down that route again. My asthma medications alone cost a lot of money, let alone all the others.

They will be stealing our children next. For goodness sake. I don’t think it’s me living on Planet Zog.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 29-Jul-24 21:49:06

Labour are penalising the elderly because they assume we will not be here to vote in the next election…

NanaTuesday Mon 29-Jul-24 21:57:32

HattieTopper,
Thai is so very wrong as you have pointed out people
Who are on benefits as on live on benefits seem to have it all , as in monopoly pass go collect £200 !
Having a state pension. & a small company pension ( & by small I mean under £100pm) my self would mean I would not be able to claim any pension credits !
Also being in the WASPI league/ generation of women that have been sidelined in that particular pot it’s yet another blow to us .
Thanks a lot for the support , just carry on paying migrants & supporting everyone who has never paid a penny into the pot !

They'd soon send them back.

I’m thinking that too plus our bus passes. Anything they can rob from us they will

Primrose not long ago you were telling us about putting a ‘ring of steel’ around your finances, so that Labour couldn’t take any extra tax from you - tax that would contribute to the good of your country.

I seem to remember you considering splashing out on expensive holidays and new cars.

I wouldn’t have thought you’d be in need of a bus pass!

I got my first ( and now apparently only) winter fuel allowance last year and every single penny went to pay my electricity bill. Even so I sat with hot water bottles for warmth for most of the winter.. sitting room at 17° . So thank you Ms Reeves.... I am in receipt of a very small local council pension... which I worked for... but which excludes me from ANY benefits whatsoever.... thank you.

Pension credit is awarded to those whose pension falls short of the new state pension to top it up. Those who are in receipt of full new state pension do not qualify for pension credit even if that is their sole income.

Grannynannywanny,
I am not sure if that is exactly true .
As I have put in a previous response to this post , my SP is well below the new sp . I am one of the thousands of WASPI Women who having had my SP age changed from 60 to 63 then had the insult of being in receipt of my very first SP 08/04/13 having reached SP age the previous month .
The new sp was payable to everyone reaching SP age after 01/04/13
A double blow to add the insult to injury & all my school friends having birthdays after 1st April received that higher amount . Not only but also people I know who have never worked gained the extra when they got to SP age .
Am I annoyed by this you bet I am !
Can I claim pension credits no sir as I have a small private pension , actually I have 2 one pays £300 annually the other less than £100 monthly. All of which means I am still above the amount to claim pension credit BUT still under the amount paid for the new SP !!
Crazy is the word !
As those people who have never worked but were eligible for the full sp can claim pension credits !!

NanaTuesday Mon 29-Jul-24 22:36:38

Ditto & My DH voted Labour for the first time in his life 😢🫤

Jimjam1 Mon 29-Jul-24 22:37:12

Go after the benefit cheats first. I have worked since I was fifteen. Never claimed benefits. I have a small pension beside my state pension. I know cheats that have claimed benefits most of their lives they will be entitled to the WFA. I was going to work 6a.m in the morning while these cheats were lying in bed, going on holidays and owning lovely cars. Blatantly boasting what a good thing they were on. Spend the money weaning out the cheats. So so annoying!!

NanaTuesday Mon 29-Jul-24 22:40:24

👌Ditto

Why didn't you report them? You can do it anonymously.

I’m a bit confused here. How can someone who has never worked qualify for the full state pension?

The amount of SP you get is based on your number of qualifying years of National Insurance contributions. If someone has never worked, surely they won’t have paid NI.

I’ve paid 41 years of NI contributions but because, as a public sector employee, I was contracted out for most of those years, I still don’t get the full state pension.

I just don’t see that someone who’s never worked will qualify for it.

M0nica Mon 29-Jul-24 22:42:56

I do think that there should have been a taper on the removal of the fuel allowance.

Grannynannywanny Mon 29-Jul-24 22:43:39

NanaTuesday are you saying that your state pension and your private pension of £100 a month combined is still less than the £221.20 a week new state pension rate? That seems very unfair that you don’t qualify for pension credit.

My sole income is my new state pension which I receive in full so I’m not eligible for pension credit. I applied again a few months ago when Martin Lewis was urging everyone to apply. I was told I’m not eligible.

LizzieDrip Mon 29-Jul-24 22:44:36

That was to NannaTuesday

Another money saving plan is the suggestion of the State Pension being means tested. That will be a huge concern for many

Jimjam1 Mon 29-Jul-24 23:07:54

I did report them. I assume if you are benefits your NI stamp is paid automatically so you will end up with maximum contributions.

Mt61 Mon 29-Jul-24 23:53:49

I'm quite happy with this as it won't affect me but feel for those who will lose out and be worried about their heating bills.
I would like to know where the money saved will go.

Africa of course

Who has suggested that?

They took away our free TV licence, now the winter fuel allowance and next April, I bet we will be paying tax on our state pensions. Why not shoot us and have done with it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
