I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

Buttonjugs Sadly, it is not your son but his addiction that means he behaves like this, but more than you need right now.

In the meanwhile, it looks as if whatever your medical problem it has been caught early. All I can do is just offer flowers flowers

Ha ha just seen St Angela of Rayner talking about the riots and how thuggery is not the way this country behaves. 🤣Does she not realise she sounded just like a prize thug when she was spitting out words like scum, filth etc just a short while ago.
She has even tried to soften her voice.

Oh give it a rest.

I fear that is unlikely to happen any time soon. Best to have a little chuckle and move right along.

She probably went to the Thatcher School of Elocution.

To be fair, Margaret Thsther would not have used the kind f rhetoric Angela Rayner has been known to use and probably would have been horrified by it.
As a grocer's daughter she knew how to deal with the public politely, she went to a girls' grammar school (strict in those days if mine was anything to go by, an we had elocution lessons) and to Oxford, and worked as a barrister.

She didn't need elocution lessons, she had voice coaching to modulate her speaking voice, a different thing altogether.

I don't know what Angela Rayner needs - her speaking voice is fine, it's some of her language which is a problem but I'm sure she knows that herself.

We also had spelling tests at my primary school but not typing lessons 😁

Buttonjugs, maybe do a different thread. You will hopefully be shown some kindness , away from this political nonsense and( in some cases) hatred.

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 08:35:25

Yes, your post could get lost on here Buttonjugs

Maybe start a thread under Health? Or Ask a Gran?

You’re right about MT as I read that all she needed was her voice bringing down a notch or two, modulation.
I think AR will be more careful with language now that Labour are actually in power.

I often wonder if HM Queen Elizabeth also had voice modulation training?

I'm sure she will.

I don't think Rayner needs to be wasting time and money to satisfy a bunch of elderly snobs. She has more important things to think about.

I always thought that the voice coached Thatcher sounded artificial and thoroughly insincere.

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:22:22

She doesn't need voice coaching, as I said. Her voice is fine.

However, is it snobby to not want one of our top politicians in charge of the country to use more npmoderstd language?
It doesn't matter the background, Boris was just as bad and came in for a lot of criticism.

But that was ok apparently, amongst those who defend Angela Rayner on here.

Neither is acceptable.

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:23:35

a bunch of elderly snobs

And who would they be, exactly?

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:27:08

So - calling someone scum or filth is ok?
If so, why are terms like spaffing up the wall not acceptable?

Just curious.

MaizieD Thu 08-Aug-24 09:29:13

Apart from the well publicised and thoroughly discussed example from a year or two ago of a word used at a private gathering what unmoderated language has Rayner been using in her official capacity?

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:31:55

Oh, jolly good.

She's learning 😁

Oh, FFGS! This is ridiculous. Denigrating someone for something she isn't doing..

I doubt there is anybody alive who hasn’t said unwise things they later regret - the difference being that for most of us they are said and forgotten by everybody except us ourselves. What I don’t get is why the same old, same old keeps on being raised constantly on this site about Angela Rayner, when virtually every other politician says controversial things too. Can’t people find something new to say?

JaneJudge Thu 08-Aug-24 09:37:41

Calling people on GN elderly snobs is unnecessary

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 08-Aug-24 09:42:22

Hmm - riots in Southport are related to something a politician said some time ago?
Not relevant, to put it politely.
And some people comment on how much airtime is given to Mr Farage, who just might have something to say on this matter but has been, oddly, very quiet.

I did point out that Boris had a problem with too.

He was always being criticised for his intemperate language on here.

Do you think he's horrified by what was unleashed?
Or quietly rubbing his hands?

You’re right, it happens all the time for certain individuals. I think when it’s relevant directly to the thread raising things people have said in the past is more relevant, but on this thread it was irrelevant and therefore gratuitous.

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 11:30:17

It started with a comment a politician had said about the riots; what she said was quite right as was the language she used.
Threads meander.

What politicians and people in the public eye say and their language is of importance, particularly at tense times.
