I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

I don't think many law abiding upstanding citizens get carried away by posts on dubious social media sites and get swept up in rioting, though.

I get the impression from what I’ve seen on the news sites that people with no previous convictions who are being caught and charged are the keyboard warriors, who have incited the riots. There must be a lot of people living apparently normal lives who never expected to be caught, sweating now.

"“Ryan Wheatley, a 40-year-old grandfather, is facing jail after pleading guilty to assault by

beating of a police officer

who he 'barrelled' into at a protest in Southampton”

British manhood at its least attractive. Such a contrast to the amazing Olympics team.

It's interesting to read that many of those charged, found guilty and imprisoned have previous convictions, some several. Alcohol and drugs were also found to be contributory factors.

It’s also sadly unsurprising. Our culture has long been one where excess and refusal to abide by societal expectations has been present.
Those 17th century Hogarth sketches where drunken gin soaked women almost keep hold of their babies are so reminiscent of the drug/alcohol abusing people now

There are some kids aged between 11 and 18 caught up in the moment kind of thing, caught and charged who don’t have any previous. Not just keyboard warriors inciting others to violence.

I don’t think I have the words to describe him.
You have done it so much better than I could Casdon.

Encouraged by family members? I don't mean encouraged to be violent - but encouraged via the narrative heard at home.

I find it quite depressing that an 11 year old with his whole life ahead of him makes such a dismal start towards his teen years.

I agree Dickens. I’ve fiubd myself wondering what kind of messages grandchildren get from us. My two grandpa’s were both in ww1. My paternal grandpa worked in a cotton mill, his family definitely working class. My maternal grandpa worked in the office of a towel manufacturer, his family had a shop and a car.
They were patient, gentle, kind , gentle men. Their politics were liberal I suppose. Paternal grandpa told me he’d applied for poor law relief in the late 20’s-early 30’s when the mill was of short time or closed. He was told to chop up and burn grannies sideboard and the organ dad was learning to play. Until they had nothing they’d get nowt. He believed the Labour Party could improve things for working people.

Maternal grandpa was officially a Liberal. He was very clear that the yiung Germans running the pow camp he was in, were exactly like him and the other British soldiers. They were patriotic and answered the call if their country. He didn’t see my generation doing this -‘ you’re so much better educated than we were.’

I;l be forever grateful for my kind, liberal grandfathers. I hope my influence on my grandchildren is as posituve

Well, someone I know who is computer whizz kid on a wage that most people can only dream about has in the space of a week been told to ‘go back to where you come from’ by a passing white van man and then had a white mother with young children shout Paki at him in the street when he was with his young child. This is where some young people are getting their white supremacist ideas from. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be shouted at in the street like that because of the colour of your skin sad

MayBee - your post confirms what we know. Nasty bigoted racists walk amongst us. The recent riots seem to have enabled some to see themselves as part of a large gang of white supremicists. I expect most of us have seen the video of the man racially abusing a bus driver
