Riots in Southport

I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

Any counter protests are just counter productive. I don’t like Mick Lynch.

I wouldn't want to do that tonight though and our council has advised against any involvement from our community. I have been into town today and there was a noticeable police presence but they are not marching in central town. They are apparently marching by the gurdwara confused

RMT boss makes the case for ‘fighting hatred’ in every generation

His speech was a brief one, but the message was clear: Mick Lynch says he is prepared to turn out ‘every week, in every town’ to oppose the violence on our streets – and he wants working class citizens to do the same.

“The working people of the UK, Ireland, and Europe are going to defeat hatred. The message of our class is that we’re one people united, in one struggle. We refuse to be divided, we won’t let these people get amongst us and cause us to hate each other. We will come through.”

“We must fight these fights in every generation. Tony Benn once said there is no final victory, and no final defeat. We have to fight these battles again and again. We fought them in the 1930s, the 1950s, and the 1970s – we won’t allow the right-wing to dominate our community.”

“We will come together every week, in every town, and bring the message in solidarity to people within our communities. We are with you, and we stand with you no matter what they try to do to us.” | Mick Lynch

Small matter in the light of things I know but a friend and I have had to cancel dinner plans tonight as a protest is planned very near to us centred on a firm of solicitors dealing with immigrants.
As it will probably spread to a hotel housing immigrants in Stockport my GD and hundreds of others have been sent home mid afternoon in case of trouble when they are all leaving their work.

We also have an alleged “event” in our local High Street, outside an immigration solicitors office. My daughter was sent home earlier so we could avoid being on the train.

A counter group, “Southend Against Fascism” have vowed to counter protest.

I’m about 5 minutes walk from this office and frankly it’s scary!

Stories to make your heart soar. Just one person turned up for a far right rally in Doncaster. Thanks to Mick Lynch reminding workers that all need to unite, with each other, for each other, in fighting fascism.

This shows just how many far-right organisations we have in England currently, it’s pretty awful!

Cadeby Wed 07-Aug-24 17:37:52

The people is the Hotel in Stockport were locked in for their own safety.

I hope people are proud of what they have created.

Law firms under seige. People terrified.

Perhaps an update on numbers arriving> Or some bon mots form NF mgith help?

Great to hear that Cyprus authorities have volunteered to help extradite Yaxley-Lennon back to UK

Now waiting for Spanish authrorities to stop him returning to Spain where he apparently lives (he loves the UK so much!) and to investigate thoroughly his legal status there, his finances, funding and taxes. Can't wait.

🥳🥳🥳🥳

But Dickens, we took back control of our borders. Didn’t we confused?

Indeed we did (not) grin

At least Boris cares about the country. This lot will not address concerns of the people any more than Richie did.

Boris cares for this country just as long as it is in his own best interest. When supporting the country is no longer in his own personal best interest, he will undermine it, sell itnup the river, go and live somewhere else.

Remember, his decision on whether to support staying in the EU or becoming a Brexiteer? The decision was entirely based on grounds of personal self-interest.

Only 2 days before coming out as a Brexiteer, he had written an eleoquent newspaper article supporting remaining in the EU. www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnsons-article-backing-britains-future-in-the-eu-a3370296.html

He is a man of negotiable principles.

I do wonder just how much control the electorate have or feel they have now we have 'taken it back' from the EU?

I mean ordinary people - not Jacob R-M, Dominic Cummings, Gove, Farage - the 'man or woman in the street'.

Have they been able to exert any pressure on their sovereign government to reduce their energy bills?

Frictionless trade and new deals around the world - how are small and not-so-small business managing with this control they now have?

I won't even say anything about that £350 million per week we diverted from the EU to fund our NHS - because the NHS is functioning so well, isn't it?

Quite a few people, when they despair of Brexit being mentioned yet again say they haven't noticed anything different in their daily lives. Which does beg the question...

Why in God's name did we leave then?

Whoever came up with the 3 word mantra "Get Brexit Done" was something of a genius. The magic mantra gave us a self-serving narcissist. Not much else.

Are you being ironic?’

If only

His usual political and economic recklessness. Remember the Garden Bridge?

If only he'd been a man who considered the details...

Boris Johnson, The Man of La Mantra (with apologies to Cervantes).
