I know there's a thread in Sport about the games but think this deserves it's own thread.

Algerian TW boxer Imane Khelif landed a huge right hand on the Italian female competitor, forcing her to quit after just 46 seconds into the bout.

If this doesn't show people that biological sex is actually rather complicated and that with the 21 differences in 17 genes of trans people already found... We need far more research into gender dysphoria and the biological reasons it could be happening... I don't know what will

But the fact remains that calling someone who was assigned female at birth and has always lived as a woman, a man is not ok.

Why does every mention of fairness to women eventually attract a comment on transgender?

Biological sex is immutable, and determined at conception. For virtually 100% of people it is not complicated, the tiny percentage of people born with indeterminate genitalia or other dsds is not reason to throw science out of the window. That a tiny percentage of people are born missing limbs, eyes or indeed organs does not alter the fact that humans are meant to be binocular, bipedal, two armed and with functioning ears.

Boxing insisted on weight limits to the point of an Indian competitor cutting her hair but still being disqualified because she was over weight by a medium sized banana. Sex testing they claim would be horrific. A simple cheek swab more horrific than being publicly weighed and cutting your long hair off?

The fact remains that if someone is mistakenly assigned female at birth but goes through a male puberty, then that person is not qualified to participate in the female class of segregated sports, no matter how they have “lived”

I'm sure the female boxers fighting at a great disadvantage will feel this was a lot more than unfortunate Yogin.

Yes that's right MayBee. The IOC has said a suitable new governing body needs to be found; well they got that right at least.

MayBee70 Mon 12-Aug-24 12:05:46

I don’t think boxing is going to be included in the LA Olympics anyway?

Aveline Mon 12-Aug-24 11:42:08

Interesting

Elegran Oh, thank you blush

I see that the CO has stepped down and they were saying on yesterday's closing ceremony how unfortunate the boxing controversy was and that the rules had been made just for France and were not good & need to change for the next Olympics. Seeing clips of every sport last night but not of the boxing, speaks volumes!

*Vas deferens* what does this mean?

That is the tube through which the sperm is carried from the testicles to the penis when males ejaculate.

I agree too Aveline

Even the rarest DSDs are male or female.

NanKate Sat 10-Aug-24 15:30:00

I totally agree with you Aveline.

Women’s sport is doomed if this situation is allowed to continue.

Aveline Sat 10-Aug-24 14:23:50

Vanishingly rare. Still desperately unfair to the colossal number of biological women who enormously outnumber them and are disadvantaged by them. Why should their 'rights' matter more than those of us biological women?

XX ✔️ XY❌ in womens sport.

It is not that simple there are women who are XY and there are men who are XX. Not many but there are some.

Aveline Sat 10-Aug-24 13:31:32

Tough. Just as it's tough on the myriad of biological females trying to get on in female sport.

I think until this is investigated properly they shouldn't be able to compete as women I agree AGA.

AGAA4 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:47:11

I have been reading more about this and there are people who are born with a vagina but no womb or ovaries. They can have XY chromosomes and produce more testosterone than a woman and also have bigger muscles.
This makes it extremely difficult to say whether they are a man or woman as having a vagina would have ensured being a female on their birth certificate.
I think until this is investigated properly they shouldn't be able to compete as women.

VioletSky Sat 10-Aug-24 11:38:41

She is a woman

You are basing this off her outward appearance because she appears more masculine and watching fake videos online

This puts all women with masculine appearing features or dress sense in danger

Banksy 👏👏👏

I'm very sorry someone is 'suffering a bit' but I'm sorrier still for all the girls and young women who have worked so hard to get where they are only to lose to biological men. No point in womens sport at all if this sort of thing is allowed to persist.

Agree, quite right.

I shared a video of him rearranging his bits in a fight!!

Yoginimeisje Sat 10-Aug-24 10:26:26

BlueBelle He lost 9 in 90 fights!

Listen to his low male voice when he says how happy he is to win Gold against the ladies he fought.
