I just wanted to correct misinformation given out this morning.

Contrary to the information given out.

Starmer is NOT going on holiday, whilst the current situation remains as it is.

Angela Rayner is Kier Starmer's John Prescott.

It wasn’t that point that’s literal Casdon
Tho it’s pretty strange to appoint a Deputy PM who would never in actuality be chosen for that role.

I wonder if she can pack a Prescott punch as good grin

Prescott had an endearing honesty about him.😃

@ronib was not entirely clear to me that Dowden was a safe pair of hands, as has been said Cooper would take over right now if Starmer ended up in hospital but whilst it may not be clear that Rayner would be able to deputise I imagine she would rise to the task in hand and have reliable staff around her she could ask for advice. Every cabinet minister has experienced advisers or Spads, so I imagine she would di as well as any other cabinet minister.

He certainly did, without a doubt his boss didn't.

Where was Starmer going on holiday anyway? Just 🧐

It depends what the crisis is if the PM is not fit to carry out their role for whatever reason, and actually it’s very logical to do it that way. The deputy PM has their own remit, just as the other cabinet ministers do, they all have status as second in line. If there was a world financial crash for example, the chancellor would take charge.

ronib you’re talking crap!

He had a great sense of humour, and an affair with Nessa.

That’s reassuring.

When did Oliver Dowden do anything of note?

How many cities and towns have rioting?
Answer quite a lot but mainly in the North.
Howzat!

What on earth do you mean?

Urmstongran Sun 04-Aug-24 19:19:01

It was me who said Keir Starmer was going on holiday next week.
He was.
Events have persuaded him to stay in London which I think is a sensible decision.

Cossy Sun 04-Aug-24 19:21:05

So there isn’t a capable deputy prime minister this time round? I am pretty sure that Oliver Dowden would have stepped up if this had happened last year? There will be more problems ahead and Keir Starmer needs a strong team to help out.

I don’t think this is the point, do you?

What would you be saying if, I’m his first few weeks, he merrily went away on holiday whilst rioting went on?

Sigh
Some of you are so literal.

And pedantic!

Curious as to what people who are unhappy and have nothing to lose are supposed to do?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 04-Aug-24 19:27:06

Given the seriousness of what is taking place he had no choice.

The police need all his support - which they will have.

The country need to be secure in the knowledge that the Prime Minister is in charge.

The thugs need to be sure that they will feel the full force of the law, and Starmer is putting into place the ability for the courts to carry this out swiftly and with the least fuss possible.

Prescott had an endearing honesty about him.😃

He did! I admired him for helping his wife to find her first son who she had to give up for adoption.

I liked him, John Smith and Alan Johnson - the best of a bad bunch.

Can you explain?

Are you referring to the riots?

This isn’t a revolution, these are organised mobs intent on causing “bovver”

Which people who are “unhappy and have nothing to lose” are you specifically referring to?

That isn’t correct though is it.

Webb was speaking out of turn, and didn’t have a clue what Starmer intended to do.

Biscuitmuncher Sun 04-Aug-24 19:31:33

Whitewavemark2 how else are they supposed to convey how unhappy they are
