We've definitely gone way down the list of priorities, so I expect Rachel Reeves reckons that's the Winter Fuel Allowance fiasco well and truly sorted.
Pensioners' problems shoved onto the back burner, as per usual......

Turning Point doesn’t seem to show any Nazi signs? Bit confused….
But it most certainly is a right wing group, Nazi signs or not.

ronib Some of the rioters are far right and include known neo-Nazis from the former National Action and Turning Point UK.
growstuff don’t give the far right any publicity? The far right is in normal times allowed to demonstrate in a peaceful way. I shall google…..
National Action isn't.

@Mt61 NF stands for Nigel Farage.
and yes his supporters have been quiet.
I did not mention "Far Right", once. I think it's you putting the two together, not me.Feel free to continue talking about the WFA or whatever you like! No need to take offence where there is none.
No you may not have said far right but I think you are implying something along those lines by saying “ NF supporters are very quiet” as though we quietly agree on these violent thugs! Why comment?
I’ve never heard of any of these organisations, what a sheltered life I must lead. Or perhaps I don’t spend my time on the internet scouring everything I can read to discover them.
Babamaman
Totally agree with you and they haven’t even been buried yet! Sad times.
The scum rioting have no respect for anyone. Not the poor victims, their families, their community !
Where are the Reform politicians condemning their voters?
Very quiet? Why?
Oh so you are another one stating NF voters are all rioters? You are talking rubbish- NF farage is on the right, not far right- these violent thugs have probably never voted in their lives- they are pure scum giving the NF voters a bad name..
They are probably THE Old BNP lot, thick as two short planks- because they can’t scrap on the football,,they are using this as a total excuse to go out & fight. I am 100% sure NF DOES NOT CONDONE THIS VIOLENCE!
maddyone it takes two minutes… but my sister is now too afraid to go out as an immigration centre is the centre of a demonstration!!
Thanks ronib but I’m going out shortly, up to London for an overnight stay. Afternoon tea at a nice hotel and theatre tonight. I’m just hoping we don’t come across any rioters in London. I’m interested in politics and current affairs but not over the top about it. The only time I can influence it is when I vote every 4/5 years, and even then it may not go my way. I deplore the riots, feel sorry for those affected, but have got to get on with my life.
I know you and your husband have been battling ill health which makes life more difficult. I wish you well.
I’m sorry about your sister. Probably best for her to sit tight at home till it all calms down. As I said, I feel for people affected.
National Action is a proscribed organisation
Gov.UK
National Action becomes first extreme right-wing group to be banned in UK
National Action has today become the first extreme right-wing group to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation. 2016.
Its interesting looking at the criteria for terrorism
"What is meant by ‘terrorism’ in the proscription context?
“Terrorism” as defined in the act, means the use or threat of action which: involves serious violence against a person; involves serious damage to property; endangers a person’s life (other than that of the person committing the act); creates a serious risk to the health or safety of the public or section of the public or is designed seriously to interfere with or seriously to disrupt an electronic system.
The use or threat of such action must be designed to influence the government or an international governmental organisation or to intimidate the public or a section of the public, and must be undertaken for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause."
Seems to me the riots if they continue come under these papareters but in terms of proscription its hard to identify groups and leaders because far right groups have stopped officially forming formal groups, they operate on SN networks instead.
Harrow and North Finchley to be avoided Maddyone also don’t forget the underground might be carrying demonstrations to the protest spots. Hopefully you have a wonderful time.
parameters not papareters
Demonstrators I meant
I 'm waiting for euthanasia centres to be opened .
Shades of Soyent Green .
Is dystopia a reality ?
A minor thing but I have to return a purchase this week .
I can't .
I've been advised not to as the area is do dangerous due to pototential riots .
The world ,that we live in has become
unpleasant on a daily basis and now dangerous .

Every day's a school day on Gransnet, everyone! 😃
I guess it's simply a matter of levels of interest for each GN individual in terms of "whats's behind" this or that political or social event or chain of events.
I certainly dont linger on the rants and hatred on some SM pages, it's enough to see what's there. It's horrible.
But you can also pick up on the good things - like the community in Southport coming together after the riots to clean up, which is heartening.

Nigel Farage has done little other than insidiously question the police's handling of the attack on the children in Southport by suggesting they were withholding the truth about the identity of the perpetrator.
You don't need a degree in psychology to understand how that plays into the hands of individuals who believe that the nation's problems are all caused by immigrants arriving on small boats. And I'm putting that politely.
He has been photographed sitting on the Essex coastline with binoculars scanning the sea for small boats; he has claimed that those arriving on the boats are all given a new iPhone within 24 hours of arrival. A 'fact' that is not substantiated - most of the iPhones that are handed out - and not all migrants receive them - are from charities where they've been donated, and are certainly not "new". During the pandemic immigration staff were unable to interview immigrants face to face and iPhones were handed out as a temporary measure until restrictions were lifted.
Reform UK were asked by Full Fact to give a source for their claim. They never responded.
Lee Anderson, the new-boy on the Reform block, has made a plea - I want my country back in justification for his claim that Islamists had "got control" of Sadiq Khan and of London. He said that the Mayor had "given our capital away to Islamists":
I don’t actually believe that the Islamists have got control of our country, but what I do believe is they’ve got control of Khan and they’ve got control of London… He’s actually given our capital city away to his mates
Do you genuinely believe that this kind of rhetoric has not helped to fuel the riots and inflame the rioters? Or that both Farage and Anderson are unaware of the effect their narrative has had on those taking part in these anti-immigrant / anti-police riots?
I haven't caught up with the news - has Nigel Farage condemned - even belatedly - the rioters?
I'd pose one more question to you. If the migrants were to quite suddenly be stopped - stopped arriving on our shores - do you think that money would then be spent on the homeless, ex-servicemen, the disabled, the sick, the impoverished living in B&Bs with their families, the NHS, social-care, mental-health services, the police, hospitals, child day-care, housing, education, crumbling schools, you-name-it?
Do you think the last government which believed in the free market and the small-state - which cut public spending to the bone because of this ideology - would equally suddenly have a change of political ideology and fund all the above?
Think about it. Migrants arriving on small boats - not just here but in the rest of Europe - is a problem, and one that has to be addressed - but it is not the cause of the impoverishment of the nation. Think about that extra £millions per week that could've been spent on the NHS - that Brexit carrot that was intended to persuade people that a right-wing government committed to disbanding public services and selling them off would actually spend money on funding them.
Read Reform's manifesto. Listen to Farage when he's commenting on matters other than immigration. In 2014 Farage was caught on camera telling Ukip supporters that the state-funded NHS should move towards an insurance-based system run by private companies. In other words, privatised. Some of his constituents in Clacton can hardly afford to pay their rent or bills - where do you think they will find the money for Farage's - the-man-of-the-people who speaks for the silent majority - private health insurance?
Our problems were not caused by being a member of the EU nor were they caused by immigrants. They are logically, inevitably and naturally the result of a government's ideology of free-market libertarianism and small-state economy. It's as simple as that.
quitting you Dickens

This is inflaming race hatred and Reform could be acting far, far, more effectively with their supporters in helping to quell the riots. Just bleating "we deplore them", but adding "we are headed for more".....oil on flames.
I'd quite like my country back from Lee Anderson.

I'd quite like my country back from Lee Anderson.
Didn’t he post a picture of a hotel that he thought was housing immigrants when, in fact, it was nurses? Not sure how recent that was. Horrible man.
