Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

I excepted this when I came in, a pile on, a few seizing the words of one disgusting counsellor who hopefully will be charged appropriately:

.... against the hundreds of rants on and offline made by the rioters and their puppet masters many thankfully arrested and hopefully imprisoned

......against the suffering of the families in Southport who not only had the murders in their community but the rioting mobs that night and have been trying to heal their community.

Get things in perspective.

Celebrate tolerance and call out intolerance wherever it occurs, but keep perspective.

Indeed call out ALL who make racist/inflammatory speeches or remarks or use threatening language. ALL irrespective of their position or social standing or political persuasion.

It’s what any normal decent person would want.

I’m ashamed he’s Labour, but like I don’t think all Muslims are terrorists, I don’t believe he represents the LP.

That doesn't appear to be against guidelines 🤔

But what do I know!!

Kandinsky Fri 09-Aug-24 11:17:25

Well it needs clarification.

Because if me saying ‘ arguing with strangers on the internet is pointless’ is breaking talk guidelines,
Yet someone telling me ‘*Away and bile your heid* isn’t?
people will be confused.

I don't think that anything is happening to Gnet. It's just the same as it has been for the past 8 years that I've been on it.

The 'why do you stay here?' remark made to Kandinsky made me laugh, we Remain voters were told it so often after the Brexit vote... without complaining about it or reporting it. I thought its re-emergence was rather ironic...

I have been through all 5 pages of this thread. I thought Orreo was being rather obsessive about the Labour councillor. Person after person said that it was a disgusting thing for him to say. I'm not sure what else they were meant to say when Orreo kept insisting that no-one would talk about it...

I took the 'only one' comment to mean that this was the only comment from 'the left' that had been widely reported. Was this an 'excuse' or merely stating a fact?

Thanks for the wider context, Callistemon. If nothing else, it shows that crowd behaviour can be complex and the desire for revenge is universal, has little to do with political labels...

Oh I dunno,
I can think of better ways to be stimulated. 😄
I only come on here when I’m bored stiff.

I enjoy your contributions.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Namsnanny Fri 09-Aug-24 13:33:05

Well that's silly.
Of course you know my motives.

Is this what they call cancel culture?

Wyllow3 Fri 09-Aug-24 13:39:56

I've asked my post to be taken down namsnanny because it was an emotional over reaction: (and for that I'm genuinely sorry)

I just got fed up because I can't understand posters take part in a political discussion just to diss others for that very taking part - why not walk on by if it isn't interesting.

Namsnanny Fri 09-Aug-24 13:45:22

Wyllow you're message has been removed by your request?

I would be happy to speak on a pm if you have a problem with anything I say.

It's just not worth getting over wrought at things on GN I found.

Btw, I'm not in the least bit offended that you wanted my post removed, I think you just made a poor judgement.

Obviously you will think I'm being snarky, but apart from saying I'm not there is nothing else I can do, other than carry on being myself.

Namsnanny Fri 09-Aug-24 13:47:47

I was posting whilst you were.

That's fine. Thank you.

My time on GN has shown me my style doesnt translate well.😄

Dont fret anymore alls well that ends well.

Galaxy Fri 09-Aug-24 13:55:02

I am obsessed with free speech, I find Wyllow very fair in general. It's good it ended in love and peace grin.
I also always admire people who say sorry. I am rubbish at that kind of thing.

It’s all getting so confusing I’m not even sure if this is aimed at my post?

But I’ll reply anyway.

Firstly. My post that got deleted said ‘arguing with strangers on the internet is pointless as no one changes their mind’.
So I didn’t even say Gransnet! so not referring to anyone on here. I said ‘the internet’
I also said I only come on here when I’m bored. What’s wrong with that? I’ve seen loads of people say similar. I’m not saying other people on GN are boring.

I’m still completely confused as to why my post was deleted. But hey, I’ll get over it.

Namsnanny Fri 09-Aug-24 14:09:14

I agree Galaxy shall we all have a good day, it is lovely weather now?☀️

Namsnanny Fri 09-Aug-24 14:18:13

kandinsky all we can do is be ourselves and say what we think.

How others take it is not under our control.

I wonder if that's why echo chambers are so popular?
It's so much easier to talk with people who have a similar perspective to ourselves?

Thank you smile

me too... Kandinsky and Wyllows.. and I miss our ex lawyer GSM who was banned.. really if we can't have a debate with differing views on here, how will we find harmony anywhere

Kandinsky Fri 09-Aug-24 14:29:10

Thank you pascal30

And I agree.

Cossy Fri 09-Aug-24 14:38:05

I too enjoy most people’s contributions, and find all peoples views/opinions interesting, even if I cannot under there motives or agree with them.

Regarding GSM being “banned”, I’m horrified, she was a very plain speaker but I miss her sensible contributions!

Cossy Fri 09-Aug-24 14:38:22

*their!

foxie48 Fri 09-Aug-24 17:38:45

I didn't always see eye to eye with GSM but I'm surprised she's been banned. Her posts were often blunt but I've seen much worse on here that's not even been deleted. Not sure how bans work but hopefully she'll be back.

JaneJudge Fri 09-Aug-24 17:47:30

I didn’t see eye to eye with GSM but I have no idea why she would be banned. I liked her contributions

ronib Fri 09-Aug-24 17:50:41

Do we know that GSM was banned? How do we know? I thought one of her posts lately said that she wasn’t feeling very well ….

pascal30 Fri 09-Aug-24 19:02:07

There was a post recently which said someone had complained about her and she had been banned. when I made a comment that I missed her the whole post was taken down. I tried to contact her through a private message and wasn't allowed to..

pascal30 Fri 09-Aug-24 19:04:18

If I now disappear you'll know why...
