How awful sad

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Aug-24 15:14:43

I have just seen his in SKY News, apparently the injuries are not life threatening.

The little girl is 11 yrs old.

As a Gran who is taking two GC up to London next week, this has given me goosebumps. I am now reconsidering.

Should read this on

Guns in America. Knives here. We need mandatory prison sentences for possession. Starmer has already shown that stiff sentences do act as a deterrent.

Apparently the place attracts a lot of families who visit Lego Land/World (something).
It's becoming overwhelming.

Yes it is right by the large LEGO store, which is very popular with tourists and locals of all ages.

Our GC love this store.

No, don’t reconsider, a) these ā€œeventsā€ are thankfully pretty rare, b) hard as it is, don’t live your life in fear, c) don’t let’s those carrying out these heinous events win!

I hope you all have a great time!

How long has knife crime been a consistent fear?
I take more notice of the news these days, so I feel my overview may be skewed by lack of attention in the past, and over attention now.

Surely attacking women and children in the street is unusual, even in these days.

I suppose I generally think of knife crime as involving mostly young men.

Report on the incident:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg5xx0gly8o

Hats off to the rescuer who held down the attacker:

*Abdullah, 29, who works at TWG tea in Leicester Square, said he intervened to stop the attacker who had blood on his face and chest.
"I heard a scream and I just went outside and saw one guy had a knife," he explained.

"The moment I saw it I just jumped on that guy and grabbed his hand... and put him down on the floor and kicked the knife away from him."
He said a couple of other men also came over to help and held the man down for "four to five" minutes, adding he decided to take action because "I had no time, I just didn't think*

That's positive advice Cossy.
Lightning doesn't strike twice.

Thank goodness people were alert Wyllow3

I think you are right namsnanny when you say

I think it is good to have a broad view of things. What ever they may be.

It's quite hard to find facts about knife crime on the past.
It seems pretty low in the 60's from what I've read.

Of course we rely on the collection of statistics to be accurate.

The injuries might not be life threatening but I imagine they are life changing.

How scared must that poor 11 year old child be feeling. (The adult as well).

welbeck Mon 12-Aug-24 16:02:54

these events are rarely random.
sometimes, of course, but mostly not.
i don't think London is anymore dangerous than any time i remember.

Galaxy Mon 12-Aug-24 16:05:20

Yes it will I imagine be life changing for those involved. That poor child and her mum.

Patsy70 Mon 12-Aug-24 16:40:22

Very brave action by the security guard, he could possibly have saved their lives.

Boz Mon 12-Aug-24 16:50:22

This is probably a domestic dispute that got out of hand; no need for public fear. Worrying that the stabber was carrying a knife, which suggests premeditation.

Galaxy Mon 12-Aug-24 16:56:24

They are saying 'not known to the victims' so it wasnt domestic violence.

According to the Met it’s not believed the victims knew the attacker.

Wise not to speculate.

BlueBelle Mon 12-Aug-24 17:11:08

Well done to ABDULLAH for tackling the man with the knife and holding him down until others helped šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Boz that’s how incorrect rumours do the rounds you have no idea and there’s absolutely nothing to suggest they were known to each other at this stage

Galaxy Mon 12-Aug-24 17:11:36

The BBC are saying they d8dnt know each other.

Boz Mon 12-Aug-24 17:14:09

That is worrying. Mental health issues? If so, that is frightening. Random nutters roaming the streets? We shall find out.
