Donald Trump's lies

It is well established that Trump is a habitual liar but the right wing media in the US, especially broadcasters such as Fox News give him unlimited publicity and never challenge or fact check his lies.

Here is what we see when his spurious claims are actually fact checked.

I suppose you could say US identity politics when based in race has never been inactive. And so different in different states.

Here is a link to a talk given by Jamie Raskin - a politician debunking the belief that the Constitution is based upon Christian values. It's rather long but very interesting.

Even when told that there is no mention some of the extremists continue to state that they belief that the Constitution is based upon the Bible.

What comes up is a pic of Trump at golf and some comments on him?

Hope this works.

Sorry about that. I was responding to a Facebook friend.

Dinahmo Thu 22-Aug-24 15:53:07

It does work now. I've just tried it.

Wyllow3 Thu 22-Aug-24 18:41:47

Listened to most of it, and very well argued. Valued the comments that said "I'm a Christian, I want no part in this"

Yes Barrack Obama has generally always avoided identity politics, Michelle's speech was full of it. America is fascinating in some ways.

Given it a lot of thought and I realised I'd been defining "identity politics" in a very narrow way as in thinking "woke" OTT.

You are right - in a way lots of identify politics, including the way different groups on the right self identify. (the extreme being as I said above white nationalist groups).

We know that Trump interfered to prevent the Republicans voting for bipartisan bill which would have reduced crossings of the border with Mexico because he did not want Biden to get the credit.

Now it appears he may have also done something far worse by interfering with Gaza peace negotiations so that awful conflict can continue and be used by him to influence this the election.

Trump has allegedly been talking with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avert a cease-fire deal, fearing that doing so could help Vice President Kamala Harris win in November, according to PBS.

If true this is utterly appalling -pure evil

madeleine45 Fri 23-Aug-24 06:50:51

What a world we are living in now. The thought that americans could even think of putting Trump up as president is appalling and says little for what brains they have to even consider it. To think that we can only hope that they will not choose him is quite frightening to think of and the idea that we have to live with his maniacal ways is worrying. Still talking of liars and cheats this country voted in Boris Johnson!

Mmm not sure about that, the Democrats are more extreme than the UK on some issues, I am not sure it's about left and right, more their obsession with identity politics. It's so depressing and divisive from both sides.

I don't think they are obsessed with identity politics! I think they are more conscious of the (recent) slave ownership, white supremacy and misogyny etc.
I think all fair minded people would be more "conscious" if we worked in women's services (for example) over there or saw the Christian right-wing in action...

Thanks for the links above.
Interesting!

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz come across to me as a breath of fresh air. Gradually, Trump's lead is being reduced by these two and he is rattled.

Harris' final speech and details.

No major come back from Trump's yet.
I like the way that although they criticise Trump, they don't go for lies, AI or the sheer bitterness. Harris tried to go for unity not division.

Revelations on how his businesses and politics are used for favoured connections - to raise money for him both personally and politically, and how someone has basically bought a candidacy...
..."raking in millions of dollars from Republican political campaigns – including his own"

Apparently HM also remarked that Trump and his wife seemed to have an "arrangement"

Irony.

Norah Sat 24-Aug-24 16:52:37

RFK Jr just endorsed Trump. Will it matter in November?

Mike Wendling BBC News•@mwendling

Apart him being idiotic and ridiculous, impact would seem to be the same as prior. Will people vote for Trump because RFKjr pulled his independent candidacy status? Nobody knows.

Casdon Sat 24-Aug-24 20:04:56

It doesn’t look likely that it will make difference.

His family are unhappy with him too by the sound of it.

He's a politician, they all tell lies. Look at the lot we've now got.

That definitely echoes other reports. Certainly some...unsusal things about him...

The BBC report on him -some quotes..

"Before welcoming RFK Jr to the stage on Friday, Trump promised, if elected, to release all remaining documents relating to the 1963 assassination of President John F Kennedy"

"Mr Kennedy told reporters on Friday that Trump's insistence he could end the war in Ukraine by negotiating with Russia "alone would justify my support for his campaign".

"Mr Kennedy's campaign became synonymous with the anti-vaccine movement as he frequently touted his leadership of the Children's Health Defense organisation, formerly known as the World Mercury Project.
In recent weeks, Mr Kennedy recounted how he dumped a dead bear cub that had been hit by a car in New York's Central Park in 2014 as a joke"

I find it hard to think of anyone in politics who has lied as often as this man!

Who exactly are you thinking of?

Oreo Sat 24-Aug-24 22:27:54

Kamala Harris has done the easy bit, appearing before those who will cheer her whatever she says. The harder bit is to come, in interviews and head to heads.I hope she’ll acquit herself well and be totally serious.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Aug-24 12:41:31

Yes, I hope so too. It has been perceived as her weak point, or at least, less experience. But it's her chance to be better known.

Norah Sun 25-Aug-24 14:33:44

RFK is polling between 6-7% in Arizona which could make a real difference.

Democrats shouldn't get out over their skis, this is still a toss up race - despite how many celebrity endorsements they have.

Quote: Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) August 24, 2024

Norah Sun 25-Aug-24 14:38:27

I'd find it wise "not getting out over their skis"

Quote: Hours before McCain's X post, Kennedy Jr., the third-party candidate with the highest polling, dropped out of the race and endorsed Trump, the GOP's nominee. On average, national aggregate polls found Kennedy Jr. drawing about 5 percent of the vote, a figure that could influence the outcome of the election given the small margin between Trump and Harris.
