I suppose a less committed government could have insisted upon a recess these past few weeks rather than cancelling all leave and getting down to business.
Fact is there hasn’t been a honeymoon period for Labour and am sure they will be only to glad to continue the hard work as other parties come back from their holidays and resume normal service.

At least Angela Rayner will be back from Ibiza with her fags and booze

You think so? I can't say I've noticed. What makes you think that? I don't think the BBC would allow 'left wing as they come' reporting. Or 'right wing as they come', for that matter, so I'd be interested to hear what you're basing that on.

Details are far from clear - best to wait to see what they are away from the rumours of what will actually happen as we've been presented with speculation so far. A major concern is the huge growth in teenager vaping

Vaping is the real danger, kids allowed to have become addicted and nothing done about it.
Pubs have spent money making parts of their outside space/ gardens for smokers, with patio heaters and all sorts. If it did become illegal to smoke there that’s another dagger in the heart for all pubs which many are struggling already.

I agree that children vaping is what worries me the most. The flavours are attracting them but the flavours are dangerous. Then the nicotine hooks them very quickly. The thought of children being helplessly addicted to anything so dangerous is very upsetting. That is what needs to be urgently addressed, but we know how difficult it is for adults to quit so how will children manage it? The ones already hooked will probably need addiction therapy.

Yes, that worries me, too. A nurse friend of mine said that vaping can cause wet lung which is very dangerous. Vaping was only ever meant to help people stop smoking: wasn’t supposed to start up another industry based around smoking.

Sorry, I’m very tired! That should say councils will be funded to extend their packages of help until April 2025!

We’ll need more meat on the bone than that announcement.
Who exactly will meet the requirements to get money? How much will it be?How do people apply, and so on.

Monica yes I do believe that the new government mishandled the Stockport tragedy. Very inexperienced people at the helm and unable to get to grips with a very fast moving tragedy.

Do you mean Southport?

We all knew the minute they won the media and their cronies would be sticking the knife in.

But that’s what happened during the last government too, so no great surprise there.
Go back and look at Labour supporter’s comments and the news headlines when the Conservatives took over from Labour last time. You’ll find it harder than it is now, but it’s what happens. Gransnet started in 2011 but it wasn’t short of criticism of the new Conservative government by Labour supporters and quite possibly some Conservatives voters too, the same as not all Labour voters are blind to or defensive of what’s going on now.
