HPQ to be fair I think in retrospect that AR is a role model for young people and I do worry about drinking to excess. AR seems to have the attitude of an unreasonable teenager in this instance.
I don’t buy all this 14 years stuff - Oliver Dowden was a very quiet, intelligent and hardworking deputy prime minister from a working class home and a good state school. If the country went down the pan with Dowden in government, I hate to think where we will be in 5 years time.

I don't think "young people" see politicians as role models though. I don't know a great deal about Dowden, but do think that the rot started with Cameron and Osbourne and austerity. The underfunding from that period has never been made up. I am not a huge fan of AR, but I can recognise that she has succeeded where many fail; she could easily have ended up as yet another single parent on benefits, the kind of person who is oft criticised on GN (flat screen tv, latest mobile, tattoos etc), so surely, irrespective of our politics we should applaud her as an example of what can be achieved

I don’t like the abrasive style adopted by the new government - Reeves, Rayner and Starmer are all very new to the job and I hope they begin to feel more comfortable very soon.

To be fair, we have been in a strange limbo land since the GE, due to the unusual timing so close to the end of the parliamentary term. It has been a government of interview and soundbites. This strange situation had been exacerbated by a current opposition in the process of sorting out it's new leader.

I would hate to think AR is a role model for young women but I rather fear she may be.
Ignore school, go clubbing in search of men, get pregnant, get your own flat, then have more babies (because you get more points that way ) but don't marry your partner; sublet your council home and if they find out, move in with your partner elsewhere and they will have to rehouse you.
All true, two women, same age as AR, who have done exactly this and now reside in spanking new social housing in a good area without even having to pretend they are working. All posted on Facebook, shown to me by their rather resentful contemporaries.
And to repeat, AR is held in place by the unions. Look at some of the new Labour MPs and see how much money they have received from Union donations: Liam Conlon, already a PPS.

I don't think AR can win, whatever she does she will be derided by the media and seemingly lots on this forum too. However, for now she's staying true to her roots and herself, she likes to dance, so she goes to a club and dances. She likes a drink, so she has a drink. She has a very disadvantaged background with little formal education and she makes no secret about it but anyone who has listened to her being interviewed on This is politics podcast will know, she doesn't blame anyone either for her childhood, which I really admire about her. I'm content to listen and watch before I make any judgements about her, pity others aren't willing to do the same but that's politics for you!

Half of this country’s young people take zero interest in politics, and those who do are far too intelligent to see AR as a role model!

For goodness sake, did young people see Johnson as a role model? He was jolly and affable and had “character”

Cossy I saw the video of AR and I think it may well encourage young people to drink too much when clubbing. I don’t think Boris Johnson would have quite the same appeal to young people.
There is a definite problem of alcohol addiction and youth. AR is seen to endorse it.
