Excellent conference speech by Sir Keir Starmer👏👏👏
How ironic - some HMRC staff essentially committing fraud.
US troops forced to act on the ground?
A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more
It ends tomorrow.
Rachel Reeves is just standing up now (noon) to deliver her speech.
There was ‘booing’ from the audience earlier about non discussion of the WFA.

I suggest you start reading Whitewavemark’s First 100 Days thread eazybee. I think she’s been away, but no doubt will be back on the task soon. Unlike your post, she is reporting what’s actually happening without a spin, and it’s been very helpful.
I think Eazybee is actually the one to have got it spot on.I don’t need a 100 days thread with copy and paste from The Guardian coming at me every day.We can all do our own reading on what the new government is up to.
Well said Oreo and Easybee. We can read and research ourselves. We are grownups. !!!!
Very often people don’t though, as evidenced by posts which don’t grasp the situation they refer to, when there is evidence from government, or other reliable sources which prove they are wrong (I am speaking generally). Opinions are fine, but misrepresentations aren’t.
We need a speech summary - I've followed I player reports live.
Very impressed with the Prime Minister’s speech, especially about the Hillsborough Law.
I think the return of the sausages will be the most talked about comment.
Strange to muddle those two.words
I've yet to hear anyone ask for hostages for breakfast
On the whole I quite enjoyed some of KS speech and thought his assertion that the LP intends to put a roof over the heads of veterans who have been living on the streets a good one, I hope that transpires into reality.
I actually thought his joke about returning to the Lake District cottage where he'd had childhood holidays was genuinely funny. The essence being the owners saw them looking it over outside and when he told them that he was taking a trip down memory lane, they invited them in to show them around, the wife had no idea who he was and then as they were leaving piped up "someone's stealing your car" it was a police escort moving it, her husband remarked "you haven't worked out who he is have you?, he's the leader of The Opposition" her "Oh well if I'd known you were a politician, I'd have pushed you down the stairs when I had the opportunity" Well I thought it was funny anyway
I know we shouldn't comment on other women's looks, but I think Victoria Starmer is very pretty and would look good in anything.

There are actually hundreds of veterans sleeping rough, not because their housing needs aren’t resolved when their council and forces post discharge vets team support them, but because they suffer from addictions, often related to PTSD, and the support services are inadequate. What really needs to happen is greatly enhanced care and support for homeless people, particularly mental health and addiction services. I sincerely hope that is part of the offer.
Allira JM was an excellent and hard working Veterans Minister

Yes, he was.

The Forces and Forces charities do have schemes in place but yes, if someone is living with addictions or MH problems, helping them presents extra difficulties.

He’s probably been getting tips from Joe Biden. 😂
Unfortunate gaffe seeing as his wife is Jewish.

I know, but unfortunately when people end up on the streets they disengage with services. I worked really closely with Public Health on identifying need in a big city, and it was a real eye opener to see how little input was available, or rather, how thinly the input was spread given the intensity of input some people need to get on their feet. It’s not that efforts are not made, but that people with addictions often lead extremely chaotic lives and don’t engage with services - they often travel around the country too, which makes it very hard to support them.

What has his wife’s faith to do with it ?
Casdon I agree with your post, but would like to add that some people just do not want and will not accept help.
I have no idea how these folks can be persuaded to accept assistance, hopefully someone in Government/Local Authorities/appropriate agencies has the answer.
I agree GrannyGravy13, even with the most intense support available not everybody could be reached because they don’t want any interference, and they actively avoid contact with services - even when they have the most horrible problems like gangrenous feet.

I doubt it Rekarie. It wasn’t nearly as funny as Johnson’s Peppa Pig speech!

Sausages are traditionally pork, aren't they, Ab?
Was a good speech and the 'return the sausages' moment may come back to haunt him but I think it made him seem more human, prone to a slip up when speaking. Hardly on a par with Biden calling Zelensky Putin.
Have to admit it made me chuckle, and also fancy sausages for tea.

No Winter Fuel Allowance but rejoice! We're being encouraged to exchange sausages.

They’re both veggie so the McCartney’s will probably send him a crate of them.
A bit off topic but does anyone remember the dog that said 'sausages' on That's Life'?
Someone should share that clip with Keir.
