So this is the biggest gaff any PM has ever made.

Sausages…. hostages how?

Ah, MissAdventure, the problem for the right wing media and their followers on GN is not really the act itself … it because it’s Keir Starmer!

In reality, someone who Keir Starmer knows let him use his apartment - big deal🤷‍♀️

Put it that way it sounds so trivial!

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:44:57

I've let people borrow my flat at times.
Don't see the big deal.

Lots of people have "borrowed" my spare bedroom for far too long.

It's not available to other people, because they arent in my friend circle.

So what?

Cosy and LizzyDrip, I would also like to go on about gifts of clothes, football invitations, private schooling, taking pensioners winter fuel allowance.....I'll be back with more.

That’s absolutely fine, as you’re entitled to have your opinions and beliefs and to air them.

As I’ve stated so many times before, we are all different, we all have differing political views and our own moral compasses.

Do I think the LP has made the best start, absolutely not!

I don’t agree with the way the WFA has been implemented, nor do I think the criteria for having it is high enough, do I think it should be universal? Absolutely not!

Do I think ANY MPs should have “donations” for personal items? No, I don’t!

There’s so much I don’t agree with around our politics, the flawed voting systems, second homes, “perks”, expenses, all fine, well and good when everyone in our country is flourishing, a little tawdry when we have so many people in dire social and financial situations.

Do I still feel the LP are better for this country and it’s citizens, a resounding yes!

Can’t wait Diplomat … bring it on🤣

Early release of undesirables, what kind of smart more is that?

Move not more

We’ve lent our holiday lodge/caravan to close friends, and not charged them rent/electricity etc. We’ve had friends to stay, even for a few months in the past, you’re so right, in the great scheme of things it’s not a big deal!

A plan initiated by the Tories, tweaked and followed through by this govt!

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:55:10

That's what friends do, as far as I'm concerned.
Perhaps he should be friendless and that will placate people.

Close to Godwin's Law there, growstuff!

True though.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:57:58

The release of prisoners is facing up to a long standing problem which has been known about but not dealt with for years.

Its particularly smart, if it is executed properly, and rehabilitates people.

That remains to be seen, but the main thing is that the issue has been faced head on, and is backed by prison authorities.

Well you accused me of not knowing facts, Cossy. Glad to see you admit it.

Of course no money changed hands. Do you know how donation works?

No idea! Nobody's ever invited me to stay in their Italian villa.

Wrong!
Some of us are Labour voters and we feel alarmed at things such as withdrawing the WFA and accepting such big amounts for personal things from a wealthy donor who is also political as he’s in the HOL. It just doesn’t feel right.

Am not sure about being friends tho expect it’s a cordial relationship being as he’s been a generous LP donor for years.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 15:40:41

Yes, I was reading that somewhere.

He has been giving huge donations for some years - long before Starmer.

LizzieDrip Wed 25-Sept-24 15:46:25

^Early release of undesirables^🤷‍♀️

Come on Diplomat, surely you can do better than that.

tickingbird Wed 25-Sept-24 15:50:15

He’s useless and not fit to be PM. Almost as bad as Lammy as foreign secretary.

Annma Wed 25-Sept-24 17:38:17

For goodness sake it wasn’t deliberate.we need a bit of a laugh in this miserable world.

Diplomat Wed 25-Sept-24 19:02:41

Okay LizzyDrip, explain to me why so many labour MPs send their children to private schools while adding VAT to penalise ordinary families and also trying to abolish grammar schools. Pull the ladder up!

tictacnana Wed 25-Sept-24 20:16:20

Someone sent me a text to say …Never mind about sausages, what about mash migration . ( tee-hee!)

I don’t know, but there will be close scrutiny of all LP (and other party) ministers to see where they were educated and where they currently educate their children because if this decision.

We had some hostages for our evening meal.

It really is an extremely odd slip of the tongue.

No, it isn't. Sausage and hostage have sounded alike to me since I was a little girl.

Anyone can make a slip of the tongue- For heaven's sake leave the man alone, can't you. More embarrassing slips of the tongue have been made before now, and good manners surely should make us ignore them.

One prominent person I can think of once said testicles instead of textiles - we are all human and all make mistakes at time.

Do they? Do you have any statistics on that?

Incidentally, many of the pupils in private schools would struggle in grammar schools. They're not the same at all.

Please explain why you think he's useless and any more useless than other MPs. What kind of criteria are you using?

MibsXX Thu 26-Sept-24 05:03:44

Agreed , it would be awful if he'd done it on purpose, did you not see the thread recently where folks offered up serious ( and funny) gaffes of their own? Isn't it great to be human!
