Sir Keir Starmer said he wanted to "thank Sue for all the support she has given me", while in a statement Ms Gray said it had "become clear" in recent weeks that "intense commentary around my position risked becoming a distraction to the government's vital work of change".

Morgan McSweeney the Labour Party election guru who is to replace Sue Gray was fined for not declaring £750,000 in donations…

He's not an MP. Why would he a) have 'donations' in the first place and b) why would he have to declare them?

Any link to a story?

My phone doesn’t like links for some unknown reason MaizieD

Here is the article from the Morning Star

Well, he was still PM at the time, Wyllow 😆

And remember, it wasn't Partygate that forced him out of office, though it contributed to his unpopularity with the public. It was the Chris Pincher affair that did for him.

The Morning Star hate don't like Starmer, GG13.

For better balance see Wyllow's post at 10.09

To those saying the winter fuel allowance is only £4 or £5 a week, I’m glad I once had the experience of being a single mother on low income to understand what living hand ton mouth mean. To some retired single people only on a tiny private pension of £3 or £4 a week, which will take them over the limit for pension credit, this really is a stab in the back. I am appalled with these Champagne Socialists, so disappointing. I’ve come to the conclusion that each party has a few members with decent morals and a caring attitude, but the majority of them allow the power to go to their heads and start enjoying the high life.

The Morning Star is the paper of the Communist party of Great Britain: a quick look at its front page shows where its loyalties lie

As regards Sue Gray, and the friction at the top of the L party campaign and presentation work, I regret the re shuffle had to happen, feel sad about it, but it clearly had to be resolved

The Morning Star ? Let’s follow Russia

I used the Morning Star article because it is not behind a paywall.

There are plenty of pieces online if you ask Google…

Saw on a political forum this week that Chancellor may change her mind on pensioners winter fuel payments… just to improve Labours ratings!

Well she’s been ‘moved across’ to another post.
Same salary?
She’s to coordinate the ‘whole of the UK’. Bet she still has the ear of Keir Starmer.
They must think were easily fooled.

They do

It's certainly a very unpopular new policy.. they'd be very unwise to implement it..

It’s already been implemented, I’d be amazed if they go back on it.

Pity Reeeves won't follow

She has the same menacing, snarling face as that despicable Dominic Cummings. Are they related?

W1chhada Mon 07-Oct-24 14:11:15

Gray is a competent woman - I am sorry things have not worked out for her.
The ‘new’ government has come under pressure from the media who are determined to present them in negative light. How long did the Johnson furnishing saga last? In addition to other instances of corruption? Over in a flash.
Starmer and co continue to be in the media spotlight over activities which are considered ‘normal’ in government- as Cleverly admits (The morality of perks for MPs remains an argument for another day).
Labour are not handling the situation well and their communication office needs overhaul. If only Alistair Cameron were available.

Nowt wrong wi' t'Morning Star, GG13. It's just not telling the whole story about something that happened 4 years ago.

If you look back at the Electoral Commission records I think you'll find that most of the parties and campaign groups registered with them have these lapses from time to time.

ruthiek Mon 07-Oct-24 14:18:44

Jane 43 , I think you must be in a lucky position , I know of many people who will not turn heating on because of the fear of getting into debt . If you are on purely the state pension it is so important to receive the wfa

Trueloveways Mon 07-Oct-24 14:51:48

KS must feel like he’s trawling through mud at the moment but with the Conservative leadership election it looks as though he’ll be running the country for at least 10 years. Great stuff.

As opposed to Guardianish? The njoly grail.

Wyllow3 Mon 07-Oct-24 15:59:55

If you actually read the Guardian, please just take the article I referenced above on the Sue Gray matter: they are far from easy going on Labour, they give critical quotes - but they don't indulge in red top headlines. Neither does the Independent, or the Times or the FT, but unfortunately now in these days of paywalls its hard to find whole sources to quote unless you join.

btw, every morning you can see on BBC I player news each newspapers front pages.

They do

They really do and voters are fooled

The majority are sheep that believe whatever is printed in the popular press. A few disbelieve everything that any polititian says.
Which leaves a small proportion that actually make a reasoned judgement.

Yes, I am cynical!.

Casdon Mon 07-Oct-24 16:20:00

It’s part time, and according to the press (Telegraph, Express etc.) she will have a £170k pay cut. Who knows if that is reliable - but it is definitely a part time role.

Nancat Mon 07-Oct-24 16:33:25

As Sue Gray is 66, she's due for retirement anyway, so whatever the reduction in salary, it will still be a nice little top-up for her state pension and mammoth civil service pension.

Is there a limit on Civil Service pensions?

If she has the full 40 years service then she should receive half her annual pay as pension per annum.
Not bad.
