Now what have Labour been up to?

The Trump campaign have filed a complaint against the Labour Party citing 'foreign interference' in the run up to the US election. A spokesman said should Donald Trump win yjr Presidency he cannot see him having an easy relationship with Starmer.

If it wasn’t for Brexit we wouldn’t have to be sucking up to the convicted felon that is Donald Trump…

Absolute rubbish. Honestly, we worked well with him last time. Although the FS at that time wasn't such an undignified loud mouth as the one, unfortunately, we have now,

You mean the one that called Stockton/ Alex Cunningham a s******e? Oh, hang on a minute, that was Cleverley….

I doubt any of us really knows how the relationship between UK PMs and US Presidents operates. We get some impressions via the media but, political bias aside, the journalists are not in the room when issues are discussed: they merely seem the handshakes and formal news conferences. And a good deal of the 'relationship' takes place between high level officials in various policy areas, not between the two top people.

see, not seem.

By the same token - perhaps we wouldn't have a Labour P.M.!! A very low turn out at the last election.

Casdon Thu 24-Oct-24 18:27:38

More likely we would have had a more decisive Labour victory and more Lib Dem MPs I suspect TanaMa - sadly we will never know.

Trump paving the way in case he loses! He does this when he's running scared.... Always someone else's fault! God help us all if he does win!

After 14 years of Tory governance I would have thought everyone would be relieved there was a change of government. Apparently not so. For goodness sake, give Labour a chance, they are being hit from all sides especially by the right wing media. Despite all of the curl turning incidents the latest being gambling on the day of the election everyone seems to be lamenting their demise. Personally, I am delighted they are out.

The two things aren’t necessarily the same. People may not want Tories back, they’re just disappointed that Labour seems to be more of the same.

No they are much worse, and will prove to be so. I don't think any Government has failed so drastically in a few short months. Support dropping drastically. Apart from some Gransnet members.

In what way is Labour much worse than the recently defeated Tory Government?

I doubt the issue will have any bearing on future relationships with the USA.
Either Harris or Trump will pursue policies in their interests. We just aren't that powerful until they want something from us.

I do find it surprising how quickly people forget political incidents, personalities and relationships, but of course there’s no problem with it, unless you apply the golden glow of the past when it suits, and try to change reality.

MayBee70 Fri 25-Oct-24 17:23:27

It would be understandable if the Conservative Party were a working opposition but they’re still in complete disarray and, what’s even more worrying, veering towards the far right.

I found that back in 2010.
This time I think there’s not much if any evidence that people have forgotten the things you mention, or are applying a golden glow to what they didn’t enjoy in the last government.
It’s really more a case of expressing disappointment about the actions so far by this government.

There was in Freya5’s post, which was what I was referring to, because what she said simply wasn’t the case. We all have selective memories, but when we twist the facts by stating what we remember as a fact, other people with good memories will remember what actually happened. That’s not a political statement, it’s just a fact of life that applies in many situations.

Mollygo Fri 25-Oct-24 20:13:44

But when some people believe they are the only ones with good memories and therefore must be right, even though someone else who believes they are one of those with a good memory doesn’t say the same thing. each will only believe their version.
Oh well. . .

Casdon Fri 25-Oct-24 20:38:01

Who would believe that they are the only one who has a good memory Mollygo, they would be seriously deluded. You don’t fool me with the snide comments either.

Mollygo Fri 25-Oct-24 20:52:41

Not a snide comment, unlike the twisting facts etc in your post at 17.41.

Casdon Fri 25-Oct-24 20:59:05

Come on now Mollygo.
