Will Messrs Reeves and Raynor Still Be Around This Time Next Year?

Sir Keir's ratings have nosedived so badly since the election that I wonder which moves he might be planning for his first Cabinet re-shuffle.
He strikes me as having an underlying ruthless streak and won't hesitate to jettison certain unpopular "comrades" in order to shore up his own position.
Whenever I see a media photo of Keir, Angela and Rachel grinning idiotically at each other I just have to think "I bet two of you will have got your P45's by next year......"

Who knows?? Let’s wait until after the budget and give these guys a fighting chance to put in place their pledges and policies. The wheels of government turn very slowly, as I know only too well having spent the last 14 years of my working life as a CS!

This, more or less.

Curious tho - why do we get no O/P's on opposition politicians/policies? Its easy enough to criticise instead of saying, "this is what we should be doing instead"

Because they don't seem able to get their act together.

What is going on with the leadership contest anyway?
How long before the sh*t hits the fan (excuse the expression!)

Because they don't seem able to get their act together.

I mean the Tories, not Gransnetters 😁

Oui bien sûr Mamie. It was the alliteration that got me thinking, Mesdames R & R. Or a pop/rock band!

😂

Quite probably the latter. Counting myself too!

Allira Sun 27-Oct-24 10:59:18

😂

Yes, I'll count myself in there too.

The Tory list isn't shut until 31st Oct.

Wyllow3 Sun 27-Oct-24 11:33:27

Yes, but where is the debate between the two candidates? What do they stand for? What policies have they on the serious problems the country face?

eazybee Sun 27-Oct-24 11:34:29

Angela Rayner was elected by part(y) members and unions
presumably meaning her position as Deputy Prime Minister, way beyond her limited capabilities. It will be interesting to see what happens if Starmer attempts to demote her; it will reveal who really runs the Labour party.

Curious tho - why do we get no O/P's on opposition politicians/policies? Its easy enough to criticise instead of saying, "this is what we should be doing instead"

Because it is what Labour are doing in the immediate present which will affect us; opposition policies at have no hope of being implemented at this time..

So is it Mesdames Rayner and Reeves then?
Sounds a bit like ladies running a brothel at the Moulin Rouge. grin grin

MissAdventure Sun 27-Oct-24 11:35:58

Well, that'll suit some people, I'd imagine.

Tory HQ probably thinks the less the country knows about that pair (Tory candidates') stands for & what they want to do, the better.

How would Conservative supporters in GN raise money for the NHS, or prisons?

This is true, of course, but in criticising, surely there must be thoughts of what would be better?

I'm raising money for education by paying additional thousands on my DGC'S school fees. I've accepted the 20% VAT increase, but will it buy me more than 0.10 of a Maths teacher I'll be interested to see?

No chance. Governments never do that, whichever party is in power.
I remember the same posts being aimed at Labour, though I forget what the defence of their non offers was.

Whenever I see Rachel Thieves and that dreadful hair cut I think of the kids at the "cottage homes" near the secondary school I went to. The boys had what we called a pudding basin hair cut as though they had, literally, had a basin put on their heads and trimmed around. The girls had a slightly longer version - known as a bob. It was done by the house mother as no one was going to send kids in care to an expensive hairdresser.

You would think someone in public life could afford a professional hair cut. Maybe no one offered her a freebie for it so her mum did it with the kitchen scissors.

escaped Sun 27-Oct-24 11:59:39

Hair? Well seeing someone started this ......
I used to like RR's swishy bob hairstyle. Recently she looks like she has greased it to stick in place?

Allira Sun 27-Oct-24 12:05:38

Like Boris!

Wondering what's wrong with her hair? It was a shiny bob, perhaps she's changed it recently. Or was caught on bad day.

Mollygo Sun 27-Oct-24 12:09:34

To be fair (or not) IMO Boris’s hairstyle was deliberate. Imagine the stream of comments there’d have been if he’d suddenly appeared neatly cut and Brylcreemed into place.

I mean not just the opposition politicians, but GN's here.

There are so many real social problems, and if Labour don't do what a GN likes, they shoot them down. (Even before the first budget)

Fair enough, as long as you have an alternative idea, "it would be better if "........

Rather like Dolly Parton!

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap".

Better here, but still not shiny and bouncy.

(You'll be pleased to hear I'm off to lunch at the cathedral now DH has finished services).

Stress?
Or a different hairdresser?
Yes, it was better a few weeks ago, lovely and shiny.
