Will Messrs Reeves and Raynor Still Be Around This Time Next Year?

Sir Keir's ratings have nosedived so badly since the election that I wonder which moves he might be planning for his first Cabinet re-shuffle.
He strikes me as having an underlying ruthless streak and won't hesitate to jettison certain unpopular "comrades" in order to shore up his own position.
Whenever I see a media photo of Keir, Angela and Rachel grinning idiotically at each other I just have to think "I bet two of you will have got your P45's by next year......"

I think she has cut it herself. It looks dreadful.

LizzieDrip Sun 27-Oct-24 12:54:29

Or, taking a more empathetic stance, maybe she’s unwell or on medication that is affecting her hair. The lack of thickness from earlier suggests that to me.

Regardless of what political party she’s in, she is still a human being!

Allira Sun 27-Oct-24 12:57:05

Stress can affect your hair too.

MissAdventure Sun 27-Oct-24 13:22:56

Or we could take another stance, and ask everyone how their hair is looking of late.

eazybee Sun 27-Oct-24 13:44:43

This is true, of course, but in criticising, surely there must be thoughts of what would be better?

Perhaps when the true budget is finally revealed there will be suggestions?
Personally I wouldn't attempt to raise money by giving in to strikers, providing free breakfast clubs or raise vat on private school fees, which may or may not produce one teacher per every four state schools to cope with a possible influx of the less able but extremely entitled private pupils.

Mollygo Sun 27-Oct-24 14:01:31

Fair enough, as long as you have an alternative idea, "it would be better if "........

That wasn’t the role of GNs in the last parliament so I’m unsurprised why alternative ideas aren’t appearing now.

Pay me, offer me freebies, let me claim expenses and I’ll make suggestions.

Whenever I see Rachel Thieves and that dreadful hair cut I think of the kids at the "cottage homes" near the secondary school I went to. The boys had what we called a pudding basin hair cut as though they had, literally, had a basin put on their heads and trimmed around. The girls had a slightly longer version - known as a bob. It was done by the house mother as no one was going to send kids in care to an expensive hairdresser.

You would think someone in public life could afford a professional hair cut. Maybe no one offered her a freebie for it so her mum did it with the kitchen scissors.

what a nasty and pointless post.

Wyllow3 Sun 27-Oct-24 14:34:51

On the contrary, there were lots of ideas in GN about what might be done differently, openly discussed. What could/should be done about key issues. And O/P's with the actual issues to open, not whats happening at the moment.

Much more interested in who will succeed Jenrick/Braverman and when.

jasper16 Sun 27-Oct-24 14:40:22

He’s trying to make up for not knowing what a woman is, by having females in prominent roles (good idea)

I love this theory! Yes I see the logic in this. KS doesn't know what a woman is , so he has some sort of fake women in office. One of the fakes is infact Mr Rayner resplendent in a green trouser suit. Monsieur Reeves has escaped from Ello Ello and will say things only once.

OOOOPs...meant Badenoch!!!!!!

Who knows?? Let’s wait until after the budget and give these guys a fighting chance to put in place their pledges and policies. The wheels of government turn very slowly, as I know only too well having spent the last 14 years of my working life as a CS!

This, more or less.

Curious tho - why do we get no O/P's on opposition politicians/policies? Its easy enough to criticise instead of saying, "this is what we should be doing instead"

As they're not in Gov and at the moment still awaiting a new Leader, let's wait shall we and see what policies will be made.
Going on the defensive because Labour are being slammed methinks.

They’ll still be around in 10 years, hopefully, and this country will be in a much better position. I’m just thankful that the last bunch have finally been outed after 14 years.

Laugh out loud.

Wyllow3 Sun 27-Oct-24 15:35:28

Will be interesting times when a new Leader is elected re policies, and yes, I think they are probably lying low thankful the focus is not yet on them....

Mollygo Sun 27-Oct-24 15:38:41

DH has just reminded me that actually, the LP could have been elected at least twice in the last 14 years, 2015, 2017 I think, but weren’t.

I have some photos of my oldest DD with a pudding basin haircut when she was about four. It was quite fashionable in the 1970s.
I cut it but without the aid of a pudding basin. It looked quite cute.

Here's Joanna Lumley with The Purdey haircut, iconic in the 1970s.

Absolutely! I just wish the right wing media would give this new government a break. We’ve had 14 years of dire leadership (lying Johnson, Lettuce Liz and not forgetting Lord Cameron who began a new kind of rottenness with the Brexit vote…) so surely it’s to be expected that Labour would have a bumpy start.

Allira Sun 27-Oct-24 16:00:48

There are other able Labour politicians to choose from, though.

I think the question is "Why Reeves and Rayner in these top jobs rather than any of the others?"

Well, if all goes well, he can boast about having put women okay in top posts despite not knowing what they are.

If things don’t go well, he can blame them. It’s a win-win situation for him.

MissAdventure Sun 27-Oct-24 16:06:52

Why not?

Grantanow Sun 27-Oct-24 16:10:14

No obvious reason for any changes at this stage. I anticipate stable government for 5 years and probably more - better than we had from the Tories.

Maybe have a look at the qualifications and experience which Rachel Reeves has before asking your question.
