In response to Calendargirl's comment you may call this bitchy if you like, but it is an honest observation.
Watching the humourless Bridget Phillipson yesterday avoiding defining 'working people', I noticed particularly the area of her face encompassing nose, upper lip, teeth and chin. Attempting later to describe her expression I used the term vulpine, i,e relating to foxes, crafty, cunning.
I first saw it many years ago in Tony Blair.

Will Messrs Reeves and Raynor Still Be Around This Time Next Year?
(435 Posts)Sir Keir's ratings have nosedived so badly since the election that I wonder which moves he might be planning for his first Cabinet re-shuffle.
He strikes me as having an underlying ruthless streak and won't hesitate to jettison certain unpopular "comrades" in order to shore up his own position.
Whenever I see a media photo of Keir, Angela and Rachel grinning idiotically at each other I just have to think "I bet two of you will have got your P45's by next year......"

Anniebach The trend to ridicule politicians is not new. Maybe the hapless voter can derive some kind of enjoyment from it as all other forms of engagement are denied? Otherwise we’re becoming a very distanced society?
Absolutely! Remember the ridiculing of BJ or LT, all excused or claimed as justified by those who were doing the ridiculing at the time and since.
Bitchy comments about hair were frequently applied to both those two, including on GN, but now it’s about LP members, it’s somehow wrong and they need defence or protection?
The man himself and his team purposely created the image. The crumpled suit and ruffled hair were part of the appeal.
Some people loved it. He wasn't Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson the old Etonian. He was Boris, BoJo, our friend.
Bring back Spitting Image!

Exactly! He created the image to detract from what he said and did.
The people currently being smeared aren't doing the same. Both Rayner and Phillipson have regional accents. Most of the Labour women dress the part, even if people don't like their choices at times. None of the deserve the kind of bitchiness we're currently witnessing.
That's not to say they're beyond criticism - but for their policies, not how they look or sound.

Thank you for giving me permission to call it what I like.
I'm not sure why you had to frame the permission in the way you did. Frankly, I consider a government minister's role serious and am not sure why humour is a necessary prerequisite.
As for the description of her nose, upper lip, teeth and chin - words fail me! Maybe you'd like to post a video of your lower face and we could all have our say! (You might even manage to utter something meaningful.)
I’m still waiting for Gordon Brown’s, a computer for every household……when was that?

You are absolutely correct. Comments about BJ’s clothing and hair were expressed freely on GN and they were actually quite unpleasant at times. Also comments about other MPs, including a lot about Rishi Sunak’s expensive clothesbut at least he paid for them himself. But comments about members of our new government ministers clothing or appearance are totally off limits. Apparently.
Not by me! I prefer to discuss policies.

I suspect most households do now have a computer - even if it's a miniature one on a tablet or mobile phone. I don't remember a promise to supply them for free.

She looks like a fox ?

So your comments earlier . . .
I wonder what people's opinions are of Bridget Phillipson's lowly background, her state school education and degree from Oxford (awarded despite apparently looking like a fox). Are people so horrified by her appearance that they don't even listen to what she says and does? As a former teacher, I'm quite positive about her plans for education (whether she succeeds is of course another matter), but, so far, she's demonstrated more understanding about what's actually going on in classrooms than most previous Education Secretaries.

Yes? Your point is?
So what do you think about her aim to repair the nation's crumbling classrooms? Or increase staff-pupil ratios?
Surely, it isn't difficult to understand the correlation between how Bridget Phillipson appears to me and whether I trust her to do a good job.
Who is to dictate how I perceive people?
She looks smug to me and I don't like, or trust, smug people.
It has nothing to do with whether she went to the local state school or an expensive independent.

I approve of them of course. They’re on my list of things for progress tracking, but I’m not sure how you suddenly diverted to that from your comments re MP’ appearance.
I thought KS was just out to punish pensioners and savers but seems employers are going to be the next target with the NI conts supposition for the budget and the changes to employment laws proposed by Rayner. Wonder how happy labour supporters are now?
Vulpine: crafty, cunning; her expression when confronted.
I am perfectly aware of Phillipson's educational achievements. She has an accent?
I sincerely hope she does repair crumbling schools and recruit, and retain more teachers.
The 'free' breakfast club is ridiculous; logistics, cost, place, time, universal, or carefully selected Labour constituencies? Will school staff be expected to man it as they are with school meals, to teach table manners? Will the money come from school capitation?

punish pensioners and savers....sigh. Oh, and those awful changes to employment laws, how dare they!
sometimes the standard of posts on here.........
Thieves and robbers the lot of them, parading round in joke outfits!!!
Hope not, never voted for them!

knspol very happy thank you!

Nannyjasper is this just your opinion or do you have proof of this claim - particularly the ‘thieves and robbers’ accusation?
I know some posters don’t like it when I ask for ‘evidence’ but …🤷♀️

Free breakfast clubs are ridiculous - in your opinion! But at least we're discussing policies now. I agree absolutely that breakfast schools should be available to all pupils. I'm undecided whether they should be free to all.

Don't you even care about policies and whether politicians achieve them?
Hmm ... now let me think which MPs (in my opinion) are more smug.

They’ll still be around in 10 years, hopefully, and this country will be in a much better position. I’m just thankful that the last bunch have finally been outed after 14 years.
So was I - for about three months. Now I'm not so sure. Starmer has surrounded himself with hobby women and camp chaps all of whom have nepotistic tendencies and their snouts deep in the trough.
Will school staff be expected to man it as they are with school meals, to teach table manners?
If it's teaching staff they'll be expecting to be paid quite a bit.
Will my 20% VAT hike on DGC's school fees be paying for this too?
I wish I could make my own personal money go this far.
escaped I think meal supervision at lunchtime is on a voluntary basis and is paid a token amount. I don’t see how teachers are able to supervise breakfast clubs as staff meetings are held from 8.30 am. Someone has to make the food too.
