Sky News; good in my opinion.

I think groups like the ones Robinson now associates with/runs have learnt a lot from the US - quite targeted and sophisticated planning and broadly based in social media connections not mainstream politics.

The leaders, as described above, have clever ways of incitement to hatred which mean they can often just stay clear of the law, but those they incite to hatred and violence dont.

However am cheered by, for example, those who turned up "the morning after" in Southport, from different cultural backgrounds, to repair the streets including around the mosque. (Picture)

Who?

Right. Well let’s see how long those thugs who broke a police woman’s nose and attacked police officers at Manchester airport get. Not to mention that Labour MP who violently attacked one of his constituents.

That is a classic case of Whataboutery. Completely separate issue and irrelevant here.

Me too!

Just an attempt to suppress criticism and discussion of Tommy Robinson and his views, and related views on free speech and SM. If the poster really cared, start a new thread, sure people will join in.

Not for the first time I very much doubt it will change him

MissAdventure Tue 29-Oct-24 13:49:13

It will just boost him up as some sort of hero, sadly.

Fleurpepper Tue 29-Oct-24 13:59:18

Just like Trump!

It will just boost him up as some sort of hero, sadly.

His intention, his plan, to shape himself as a martyr. Not exactly hard to see through, though.

Tice and Farage take good care to keep their distance from him

"we have nothing to do with that lot" (Tice, GB news)

I really wonder that the sorry state of our once great country my grandfathers fought for could get any worse.
Maybe people on here should watch the documentary then rewrite their comments.
Shameful

Doodledog Tue 29-Oct-24 15:14:13

Which documentary do you mean, Ainee?

Nan0 Tue 29-Oct-24 15:14:33

Agree that he is a politically inconvenient figure for the govt but he should not be locked up..He was not allowed to give his defence

Nan0 Tue 29-Oct-24 15:19:36

Really? I thought he went on holiday to Cyprus with his family, and the police wanted his phone pin.As a journalist he didn't want to betray the confidence of a news source.Personal I think the bbc journalist who interviewed the Vietnamese people trafficker smuggler should reveal who the Person is., to the intelligence border force/MI 5 and 6..

Wyllow3 Tue 29-Oct-24 15:24:32

He admitted to the offences (ie a guilty plea) so it wasn't a matter of giving a defence.
His KC testified as to his character etc in the matter of setting the sentence.

Stephen Yaxley Lennon aka Tommy Robinson, Geert Wilders, Nigel Farage, Tice, Suella Braverman, and Trump, all play to differing degrees to people’s fears and prejudices, making far right wing populist scaremongering that was once the territory of gangs of skin heads meeting in sleazy pubs far more mainstream and socially acceptable in certain circles.

Oreo I like the name Tommy

Silenced on you tube.

The real Tommy Robinson, from whom Yaxley took his name, was a prominent member of the Luton Town MIGs, a football hooligan crew which follows Luton Town FC.[10]

The pseudonym successfully hid his identity and criminal history until the connection was uncovered in July 2010 by Searchlight magazine.[11][12] He has also used the names Andrew McMaster, Paul Harris,[13] Wayne King,[14][15] and Stephen Lennon.[13]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Robinson

'Tommy Atkins', on the other hand has been used as a generic name for a private in the British Army since at least the 18th C.

Our Tommy R chose the name of a football hooligan for his alias, not a British soldier... Seems appropriate...

I fail to see how some who rely on newspapers and wiki (which has long been castigated as at least a source of mis information) can talk so objectively about anything.

Believing in Free speech has been explained over and over but many only want to hear their own beliefs enshrined and echoed back to them.

We are currently being asked for calm and not to speculate about a true terrorist Axel Rudakubana.

I shall speculate to my hearts content.

Absolute hogwash - SYL is as much a journalist as I am the Pope!

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 18:36:07

Oh and let's not forget Nick Lowels disgusting tweet about throwing acid over Muslim women.
He didn't wait for the accusation to be verified.

He said sorry in another tweet, no jail time for him, that's all right then.
His and Josh Fenton-Glynn Labour MP (who re tweeted it) free speech is up held.

How can anyone deny free speech is being eroded when people can be prosecuted for a thought, as in the case of Adam Smith-Connor let alone a word?

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 18:45:13

How many crimes in this country have RW terrorists committed in the last 10 years?

How many are on the 45.000 terror watch list?

I prefer to look at the facts, and not be led by nose.

If the only one that people can come up with is TR then I for one will sleep well in my bed.

Wyllow3 Tue 29-Oct-24 19:00:06

I'd advise people to read the wiki article and make their own minds up as regards the Tommy Robinson one. It's extremely well referenced.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 19:04:55

There are a lot of if's and buts.

As I said above if TR is the only person people can find to object to I shall sleep perfectly fine tonight and any other night.

It's the real terrorists that people should concentrate on.

Why anyone thinks otherwise is an anathema to me.
