The result will be announced at 11am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

The "turnout" was not high. (Telegraph).

Kemi Badenoch was the favourite last week

"A survey of Tory members by the ConservativeHome website last week suggested, external Badenoch led Jenrick by 55% to 31%, with a further 14% undecided."

As regards discussion had to find an accessible website

Will there be a surprise?

Labour MP shares post saying Kemi Badenoch is ‘blackface of white supremacy’
Dawn Butler later removed comment from X profile as Government ministers congratulated new Conservative leader on her election

Good grief, you couldn’t make it up.
Whatever is the matter with people like her (Dawn Butler) ?

Karmalady, you are absolutely right, business is essential for growth and prosperity.

She recently said that the purpose of government is to serve business.

It chilled me to the bone. Others may feel differently...

But don’t business do the heavy lifting and make the profits that service the economy. Laudable as the NHS, teaching is (our two daughters work there) they don’t ‘produce’ anything. They are service providers. We need SMEs and big business to provide profits for tax - so that we as a nation can enjoy the receipts.

businesses are the drivers of growth and the economy, if businesses thrive then people thrive and so will the nhs and social care etc. Absolutely businesses form the hub of the wheel and are so very needed for the uk to flourish.

She got right to the heart of the uk financial problem

I think we only have to look to the US to see just how wrong those beliefs are.

It even seems to be on the brink of a civil war, primarily because their business oriented economy has failed a great many Americans and they don't believe in the 'establishment' economics any more. Huge numbers of American citizens are very far from 'thriving'. Trump has tapped into them and is going to lead them to the promised land🙄

X posts karmalady we think as one!

Did Dawn Butler post that?

Well it’s not the first thing like that she’s posted. Removing something from X when you know it’s been viewed means nothing, except you’ve achieved what you wanted to say.
Earlier, The Times reported
Dawn Butler under fire for saying Kemi Badenoch shouldn't exist
26 Jun 2024 — A left-wing Labour candidate has been accused of bringing the party “into disrepute” by saying she agreed that Kemi Badenoch should not exist.

MaizieD Sat 02-Nov-24 17:48:32

And just look at the millionaires and billionaires who have amassed their fortunes through'business' who are now squealing because the government wants to tax away a little bit of their gains. They're not showing a great deal of interest in the rest of the population 'thriving'.

madalene Sat 02-Nov-24 17:51:10

Dawn Butler doesn’t sound like a nice person.

ronib Sat 02-Nov-24 17:51:27

MaizieD I seem to have missed out on the squealers - do you have any names and sources of information? Apart from the farmers.

Galaxy Sat 02-Nov-24 17:55:00

Dawn Butler did not say it, she shared a post that said it.
I know that's a tiny difference, but I am banging on elsewhere about being honest about Trumps words so I am trying to be fair.
Dawn Butler is consistently awful.

What about all the SMEs across the U.K., they really are the backbone of society.

They are not millionaires or billionaires, they are hard working people who employ local people, give back to their communities.

The world needs business leaders of all sizes, especially those in the middle who haven’t got the fancy accountants to lesson their tax bills…

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 02-Nov-24 17:59:01

I would say Reform are hitting the champagne tonight. Best result they could have wished for.

I think she’s jealous of Badenoch, hence the mean tweet.

Possibly. Sour grapes?

She has not been offered a job on the top table by Starmer.

I utterly agree with you, GG13, but they really don't count in the grand scheme of things. And you can bet your life they aren't the sort of 'business' that Badenoch thinks it is the job of government to serve...

I doubt it. I think she probably despises her.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 02-Nov-24 18:07:19

Badenoch cannot unite the Tories. They cannot even agree a position on the EHCR. Irrelevant now anyway.

That seems doubtful. I expect she will be taking advice from the Tory grandees and ignoring Reform. View in I.

The Tory grandees want to unite their party. They can’t get their heads around the fact that the electorate rejected them big style. Labour won on the ‘anyone’s but a Tory vote’.

That's a good article, quotes near the end from Hague and Grieve.

Labour won by moving into the centre, no, the Conservatives don't need to be NuReform.

Casdon Sat 02-Nov-24 19:04:54

These are people who have lost elections, and been leaders in difficult times for the Tories FriedGreenTomatoes2, not inexperienced self interested commentators. Their advice is probably the best that there is for a new leader.

Iam64 Sat 02-Nov-24 19:05:06

Dawn Butler doesn’t deserve a place at the ‘top table’ . She’s consistently dreadful

I enjoyed F G Ts saying Reform will be hitting the champagne tonight 😂. Badenoch is an interesting choice but let’s face it - the pool left to choose from is weak. Never expected I’d miss those good one nation tories

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 02-Nov-24 19:39:29

At least we agree about Dawn Butler Iam. 😁
She’s dreadful.

So sick of the black v white - just get on with the job. Butler is a nasty piece of work with a chip on both shoulders.

The Tories promote on merit, which is why they have had four female leaders and people from different races in senior government roles over the years.

Labour promotes on what they call diversity, which is why they have a black foreign secretary (Lammy) and a female chancellor (Reeves), both of whom are clearly not up to their jobs.

So why did they promote Liz Truss ( oh and Kwarteng)?
