Could Kamala Harris Sue Trump For Slander?

An overwhelming percentage of his speeches have been very personal towards his opponent and immensely offensive - surely there's a case for litigation? Or is he protected by the fact that he's an election candidate?

What about all the 'garbage' referred to by Biden? Could they sue for defamation of character?

BlueBelle Sat 02-Nov-24 06:46:16

Well someone needs to sue the man who called Pueto Rico a rubbish tip in the ocean or put some ever lasting tape over his horrible mean mouth

Sallywally1 Sat 02-Nov-24 06:50:25

Personally I cannot bear the man, I admired his wife openly admitting her stance on abortion rights, which are opposed to his.

I read recently he was a close friend of Epstein in the past.

I don’t expect litigation is possible but I do worry about the im-act of this rude, overbearing liar on society. I feel increasingly like a prim older woman but how are we expected to bring children up with powerful men like Trump and Elon Musk as role models

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Nov-24 09:05:32

The only decent role makers they can be Iam are as examples of what not to be.

eazybee Sat 02-Nov-24 10:18:38

Were either of them to sue the other it would only enrich the lawyers.

Aveline Sat 02-Nov-24 10:26:06

What would be the point. None of the other cases where he's been found guilty have led to anything much.

There are many photographs of Trump and Epstein together.

I find nothing to admire in Melania Trump. I expect her comments were agreed as part of their election campaign, a strategic move

Oreo Sat 02-Nov-24 10:57:11

They seem to go in for slander ( US election time candidates) so I don’t expect they take each other to court over it.
I disagree that the so called comedian who called Puerto Rico an island of floating garbage should be sued, his joke or his opinion, free speech y’know?
There’s too much litigation anyway and mostly the only winners are the lawyers.

HousePlantQueen Sat 02-Nov-24 10:58:45

I too find nothing to admire in Melania Trump. In fact, the whole adult family is loathsome, all in it for themselves. Surely they can all see that Trump is in mental decline, yet they still support him, presumably as their meal ticket for none of them are employable anywhere else.

Wasn't he saying something about shooting someone in the face yesterday? I was busy with GC so didn't catch the whole thing but something about her (not sure who) being faced with 9 shotguns and shot in the face? I think that is criminal.

I must go and google it but I'm sure that was what they were saying.

Dickens put this into context on the US election thread.

Put suggesting someone should be put in front of 9 shotguns and shot in the face? I will have a look but can't imagine what context would make that appropriate.

theworriedwell Sat 02-Nov-24 11:24:40

No the context doesn't make it OK for me. He knows what his followers are like and that remark was dangerous. Then again he is a dangerous man fullstop.

madalene Sat 02-Nov-24 11:29:37

I doubt it, because they are in an election, but I don’t know really.

It is a trope that has been used for decades, it was the basis of blackadder, verysimilar to the idea that it is easy for those who give orders because they wont be standing in the line of fire.

That’s why I put the video up. Some members need information spelt out.

Bill Maher (Harris supporter) was explaining last night that it's an old hippy idea! He is trying to explain to his own side that they are going to throw it away if they carry on with this stuff.

Please don't patronise me, it is incredibly rude. I understand quite well how people are seeking to justify what he said but suggesting to his gun toting supporters, who tried to kill Pence for him, that she needs to be shot in the face is not OK.

Some certainly do as surely none of us want to support the idea of shooting people?

Galaxy Sat 02-Nov-24 13:10:46

I dont know how to explain it any more than I have.

Oh! hasn’t she done the very same thing to him?
