Democracy is about accepting the majority vote, it's perfectly ok not to like the result and to discuss it, that's a benefit of living in a democracy IMO

I think I agree.

Unless anyone can convince me otherwise.

Oreo so there aren’t any checks and balances that we know about? Since the USA doesn’t have the dubious privilege of monarchy as the final block? Both the Senate and the House will be Republican.
It’s a dry question not an emotional one.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 06-Nov-24 09:39:36

I don’t think he will make the full 4 years and then we’ll be landed with Vance, who is, to my mind, worse. I think that has been the plan all along. You heard it here first.

Good luck, Trump supporters. I hope you enjoy your fantasy while it lasts. The rest of us will suffer for it. sad angry

mum2three Wed 06-Nov-24 09:43:04

I'm very pleased! Hopefully he'll put a stop to all this liberal nonsense, and have some influence over the sorry shower we now have in charge of our country.

I think it’s important not to get paranoid where Trump is concerned or over egg what he can or will do, he says a lot of things at election time and at any time, often contradictory but it’s all words.

👏 👏 👏
I think the big leaders are taking the right approach to Trump .... "looking forward to working with you."

LizzieDrip Wed 06-Nov-24 09:45:06

Today bullying and evil have won.

Name-calling; lack of empathy; shouting louder than your opponent; humiliate; be-little; lie; break the law… all these have been legitimised today.

God help the world. And God help the young women of America.

Putin will certainly be celebrating!

This is a good analysis of the Trump success story. It rings true.

Trump asked the voters if they were better off now than they were 4 years ago. A lot of them aren't and like anywhere else their way and quality of life is affected by how their country is run.
Joe Biden should have stepped down much earlier because the Democrats would have had more time to put forward a candidate who would have appealed to the US more than Kamala Harris. Anyway, it's done and we all have to get on with it.

Agreed.

Goodbye NATO and decent green policies.

Congratulations Elon Musk - you finally managed to buy The White House........

Well if Elon Musk has bought the White House then Lord Alli certainly owns No 10.

No Sago, the two things aren't even in the same ball park. Elon Musk openly and effectively bought votes for Trump from the general public. He is immensely (and dangerously) powerful. He owns and controls one of the largest and most influential media platforms in the world along with the development of artificial intelligence and space transportation. No comparison can be drawn on any level between the two situations.

I am always astounded when seemingly intelligent, rational people support this nutter. Well it takes all sorts.

ronib Wed 06-Nov-24 09:47:40

LizzieDrip also celebrating will be all families with children and partners involved in completely pointless foreign wars.

How will that work?

Liberal nonsense? What would that be, exactly?

Victory for Trump has been declared. I don’t think Harris can catch him. I’m not surprised. Biden had long lost the plot, and Harris has been so inept as VP. The Democrats need to pick better candidates next time.

This I totally agree with.

Without NATO and with Trump possibly aligning himself with Putin the whole western world is in danger. Ukraine must now feel extremely vulnerable as must other nations previously part of the USSR.
Israel is another problem that Trump might seek to eradicate with a throwaway remark or post on X. Bibi is certainly hoping so. And with Gallant sacked Bibi is readying himself for the final push indeed he held on for this very result.

madalene Wed 06-Nov-24 09:54:39

Not good news for UK and Europe. Trump may pull out of NATO which would put us in danger from Russia and others.

This my concern too AGAA4.

Whitewavemark2

He may well go for a third term

He can’t.
I thought you’d have known that.

The world was in a dark place- and now tips even deeper. I feel sick to my stomach, heart and soul. I fear for my grandchildren and all the young ones out there.

Watched 2 documentaries recently on Trump supporters and rallies, and it is scary, terrifying. And this will affect us all- wherever we live.

Greyisnotmycolour- I feel just the same. To know that some on here actually support him and what he stands for - I just can't do this. Yes, America, you disgust me.

ronib Wed 06-Nov-24 10:03:03

Fleurpepper I think you have over reacted. Trump is not our President in the Uk. He isn’t interested in the Uk and will put America first. We are a forgotten backwater. If Trump is able somehow to stop the endless slaughter of our young people in Ukraine and Israel, why is that not desirable?

MissInterpreted Wed 06-Nov-24 10:03:28

That is exactly how I feel too, Fleurpepper. It is a dark day for the world.

Maybe see if it happens before all the handwringing.

Sensible as ever Oreo.

This man does not believe in global warming or, indeed, democracy, given his performance at the last election. I am not alone here in feeling extremely concerned that an elderly narcissist, who will blatantly, relentlessly lie, and will do anything at all including quite public bullying to become the most powerful man in the world. How has he been elected again?

Is a dark day today and those celebrating have no idea what kind of world they have just imposed upon those who live in other countries whose politics is affected by US foreign policy. Yes is a democratic vote but those abroad now rightfully worried - including Europe and the UK - didn’t vote for this. Zelensky will be very worried as will all countries previously ruled by the USSR, if Trump makes good on his threat to get rid of NATO Putin will be free to do as he pleases. And this is without even mentioning Israel and the fact that Bibi deliberately held off from calling a ceasefire in order to further his nefarious agenda with Trump.
If only this affected Americans I would say let them get on with it but it doesn’t and those celebrating on this thread are either very shortsighted or in agreement with Trump’s plans for NATO etc., perhaps they could clear that up?

It's how he'll do it that matters.

I do think its a dark day for the world, but I also think he will erode democracy in the USA by continuing to politicise justice so its under control by a ruling elite not for the good of all.

In his speeches, Trump has promised "revenge"

Just listening to Starmer’s letter to Donald Trump! What a creep and turncoat Starmer is after all he said.
