Oh dear the crazy Americans seem to of voted in his favour yet again . A former president now with a criminal background . Could be reelected 50% to Kamala’s 49%
Not quite there yet, however . Get ready for yet more of his manic speeches
Cannot wait for his bat crazy eating garbage orange faced triumphant speech , he’s expected on stage very soon .

Trump asked the voters if they were better off now than they were 4 years ago. A lot of them aren't and like anywhere else their way and quality of life is affected by how their country is run.
Joe Biden should have stepped down much earlier because the Democrats would have had more time to put forward a candidate who would have appealed to the US more than Kamala Harris. Anyway, it's done and we all have to get on with it.

What is to stop Trump changing the rules about Presidential number of terms? I would not put it past him to try.

MayBee70 Wed 06-Nov-24 08:59:16

It only seems like yesterday that I was stood in the kitchen listening to the radio and shocked to hear that he’d been elected first time round. Margaret Beckett was talking about post truth politics, a term I’d never heard of but am well aware of now, sadly. Couldn’t understand people voting for him back then and he’s become far worse since then. I can’t bear listening to or seeing him.

The electorate have had their say, it is their decision.

Whether or not GN members agree with them is not going to change anything.

Name calling is not the answer, whatever side of the pond it occurs.

For what it’s worth I think Donald Trump won this election the day he was shot at the rally.

That helped but I think he was always going to win against Harris.
Next time the Democrats must choose more carefully.A mixed race woman and a Democrat one, was never going to win over blue collar voters in swing states.
Biden wasn’t popular either, so a younger man next time is a must.
It’s democracy tho, whatever anyone thinks on here, in fact if they think it isn’t, well that makes them Trumpian.

He may well go for a third term

He can’t do that, two terms is all that any President in the U S can serve.

I think his intention is to abolish voting and declare himself to be perpetual president.

Didn't he say something near the beginning of his campaign to the effect that if you voted for him this time you'd never have to vote again?

TheWeirdo Wed 06-Nov-24 09:02:45

ANYONE who votes for that - animal hating, women hating, LGBTQ+ hating racist criminal bag of repulsive vomit needs to be locked up indefinitely in a bare-walled cell, chained to the walls!

He couldn’t do that alone and it’s unlikely to be changed. In any case he would be in his 80’s by then and the Democrats have time now to get their act together.

MaizieD oh well at least he has a sell buy date not even Trump is immortal.

Politely please, somebody tell me what they like about him and his policies?

Im wondering what I’ve missed Poverty and the peoples vote being taken for granted.
When your poor and your food/fuel bill goes up every week you can’t afford principles. Americans had more dollars in their pockets last time round.
Like the Labour Party here the democrats have taken the ethinic vote for granted. How wrong can you be. Have you seen the southern states that voted for him.
The one they got spectacularly wrong was Pennsylvania wher e 2/3 of the population are Peuto Rican. 🤦🏼‍♀️

ronib Wed 06-Nov-24 09:06:35

What exactly could stop him Oreo?

Google project 2025.

I think it’s important not to get paranoid where Trump is concerned or over egg what he can or will do, he says a lot of things at election time and at any time, often contradictory but it’s all words.

Cabowich Wed 06-Nov-24 09:09:36

Never underestimate the strength of feeling about Migration and 'The Economy' - according to many voters, their main issues.

I do worry very much about Ukraine, now, though.

winterwhite Wed 06-Nov-24 09:09:56

It’s America’s poor who I feel sorriest for. The Biden years did nothing for them, as Trump kept telling them. I fear they will find that he does nothing either.

Luckygirl3 Wed 06-Nov-24 09:10:53

The most serious aspect of this is that Trump shows very clear signs of psychosis. It is a source of concern that there is no way of vetting for this prior to a candidate standing for office.

I take your point petra. It's complex and my understanding of the political situation in the huge country of the US is limited.

Superficially I think Biden was a disaster and KH was parachuted in too late.

I can see why if you are broke and struggling, you are going to go for the guy who appears to be on your side.

Perhaps they think others have a "better deal" somehow.

Not to make changes like that.

I’m afraid that he could well change that. The twenty-second amendment has only been ratified since the 1950s.

Trump is intent on weaponising the civil service and the courts. He has control of the senate - there is very little checks left.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 09:20:21

Maybe see if it happens before all the handwringing.

eazybee Wed 06-Nov-24 09:22:27

The frightening thing about Trump is his relationship with Nato (Ukraine) and Putin, which does not bode well for the rest of the world.
I have little understanding of American politics and the way they have evolved, but they are very different from ours, as is the electorate.
The only good thing that may come from this is that Farage will spend more of his time in America.

ronib Wed 06-Nov-24 09:24:58

Oreo this isn’t handwringing. In the cold light of day, what checks and balances does the American constitution have to prevent changes?

ronib Wed 06-Nov-24 09:29:08

eazybee I don’t know that killing so many young soldiers is the preferred option for Russians and Ukrainians. I would much prefer that diplomatic solutions were used and NATO is not an innocent in all of this. If it takes a crazy, psychotic American to stop the slaughter then what does it say about the rest of us?

But it is!
He’s only just won the election so no need to get ahead of yourself on this matter.
