I’ve never seen mid Wales farmers in Barbours. Whilst out walking in the hills I came across a shepherd with an old gaberdine type coat tied with string around the middle!

I have many times Farzanah, I live in mid Wales and they are everywhere near me. There are a few less elegant looks around too though, one old farmer who lives up the road piles tweed jackets one on top of the other when it’s cold, I can’t work out if the inner jacket has had the sleeves cut out.

John Lewis have good deals on their Barbour range at the moment.

The PA news agency could not find any evidence that the Home Secretary has previously voiced any opposition to the celebration of Christmas or associated it with far-right politics. Last year, Ms Cooper gave away mince pies and her office organised a competition to design a Christmas card at a primary school in her constituency."

Don't confuse the brand with the jacket. There are a number of companies out there making wax jackets. Practical sensible wear for those working outside before the development of modern materials. I was looking at one today, in a charity shop, made by a company in Lincolnshire.

DH has a suede jacket, an exact copy of a wax jacket, and difficult to differentiate - he bought it in France.

Personally I love undermining all these silly prejudices.

We read the Daily Mail and carry it so it can be seen, when out, just to watch the faces of those who notice it and watch them reach totally erroneous conclusions about our political beliefs.

A lot of farmers wear waterproof jackets from companies like Berghaus these days. Also their off road vehicle is likely to be a Japanese ot Korean make as they're more relaible than Land Rovers.

One of the biggest pleasures I get from reading the DailyMail, skipthe politics, is a good paper, is the knowledge that it annoys the hell out of other people and leads people to make lots of erroneous judgements about me.

Often there are cars with foreign registrations - especially German and Scandinavian - in the car park and their owners are easy to spot inside, usually carrying a long list and walking around with arms full of stuff to take back home to family and friends.

By the way, I was out with DD2’s dog earlier - he was wearing his Barbour coat! I wore my Barbour jacket, scarf, socks and pink wellies.
Barbour is a local brand, worn by many from all walks of life.

Interesting article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine from last winter. All about the many facets to owning a Barbour - practicality, durability, sex appeal, popularity, emulating royalty etc. I read all the article and the emphasis was on the jacket's "müffelndes Statussymbol", its understated status-symbol, even in Germany! They too see the irony of it being worn by city people who don't know the difference between a rabbit and a raccoon!

PS forgot to say that the Frankfurter Allgemeine is a very prestigious German newspaper, but ja, it's right-wing.
