^Often there are cars with foreign registrations - especially German and Scandinavian - in the car park and their owners are easy to spot inside, usually carrying a long list and walking around with arms full of stuff to take back home to family and friends^.
Interesting article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine from last winter. All about the many facets to owning a Barbour - practicality, durability, sex appeal, popularity, emulating royalty etc. I read all the article and the emphasis was on the jacket's "müffelndes Statussymbol", its understated status-symbol, even in Germany! They too see the irony of it being worn by city people who don't know the difference between a rabbit and a raccoon!
