Hamas was elected by democratic vote . Why are Palestinians
not calling them to account.
Why indeed?
Fear?
This is a very serious matter. How do you feel about the international community issuing an arrest of this man accused of crimes against humanity, genocide, starving civilians children and elderly disabled. Is he justified in responding to a terrorist group killing his civilians or has he lost his sense? Such a bad time with no foreseeable end to this terrible violence.

I completely agree Trip.
He will of course never be held to account. His actions have far exceeded justification for the terrible events last October and accusing the ICC of antisemitism is ridiculous.
Netanyahu wasn’t PM in 2006

With 90% of the infrastructure destroyed, and people in refugee camps, how can any kind of "election' be expected to take place?

No election can take place in the current circumstances Wyllow as you very well know.
I said fear because ordinary Gazans are terrified of Hamas. They execute anyone who shows dissent. Did you not know that?
Hamas were voted into power in 2006, was not PM in 2006,
I've just said above you madalene that no elections can take place.
It's perfectly valid to criticise a regime/past regimes of Israel for its actions as well as respecting the right of Israel and its citizens to exist. You know that's where I stand from the long previous threads we've both taken part in.
Yes indeed Wyllow, which is why it’s perfectly valid for people to criticise Starmer if they wish to, but some on GN think they shouldn’t. This thread, whilst about Israel, is about the action of our government who have indicated they may well arrest Netanyahu if he visited the UK. I don’t agree that we should do this, but maybe you do.
In any case, it won’t happen. Netanyahu did visit Britain after the Hamas massacred the Israeli citizens, and our government supported the Israelis, but he won’t be returning under our present government.
Hamas and Hezbollah are greatly depleted, most if not all of their commanders are now dead, they were prepared to attend a meeting in Cairo to seek a ceasefire and so release the hostages. Netanyahu refused.
The time to put an end to this is now, any further hostilities are completely insupportable.
Netanyahu won’t answer for his crimes but both Israelis and Palestinians will reap a bitter harvest for this in years to come.
Thanks for your comments madalene you’ve saved me from typing them.
Judged by the same people then not only Hitler but Churchill and Roosevelt would be wanted for war crimes.
There were many difficulties with getting aid lorries in and out of Gaza, checking for weapons, the Egyptians holding things up at times and mass lootings. The latest looting of 100 lorries was carried out by masked men with guns and grenades, hmm not hamas by any chance?!
Wars and conflict is awful but sometimes necessary and mistakes are made but the IDF unlike hamas didn’t harm civilians on purpose.
If Netanyahu were to visit the UK it depends on the then situation in Israel and Palestine. It's the only reasonable response to make.
As ever, the press and some of the opposition make much of an "it depends" answer, trying to push for some definite statement so they can then"Deplore". Happens all the time.
When did our government say "they may well arrest Netanyahu" madalene? I thought Starmer had refused to commit himself to a yea 0 or nay on that. Has there been a later reply to the question that is more definite?
Just checked - the govt def not said that.
The US is saying they wouldn't arrest, France and Italy have said they would (Sky news, 10am)
So which government is Madalene speaking for?
Yep Netanyahu the cabinet and the IDF should all be arrested and tried for War crimes and genocide. NY is not on his own he has a fully fledged "democratic" govt (as we are instructed to believe by the MSM) . The Zionist state cannot identify where it borders are, they seem to be fluid. There are nearly 10K+ hostages being held without charge. The Palestinians don't have the same level of support as the Ukranians, they are unable to defend themselves in a peaceful manner. NY is an immediate danger to world peace. However this conflict is different; the biggest supporter in this instance has been not been muslims or arab leaders but those jews who have understood judaism and have known suffering. Especially in the USA where jewish students have risked careers to side with Palestine and occupation. The divide and rule policy of the west to create fissure between jews and muslims is not working. Because it is not about jews and muslims it is about right and wrong. The Jewish pro Palestinians are a bit more freer to express themselves rather muslims. The latter are accused of anti semitism at the slightest hint of being critical of the IDF or Israel. Notice how islamophobic interviews of muslims begin by saying "But do yoooooo condemn" with the emphasis on the "You"; fair enough but Zionists are never asked the same question about the IDF.
How do you defend yourself ‘in a peaceful manner’?

How do you defend yourself ‘in a peaceful manner’?
Killing 40,000plus Palestinians, 75%of which were women and children is not 'defending yourself, it's genocide. Nor is starving the populace that remain.
It was reported last night, BBC, that the arrest of Netanyahu, if he visited the UK couldn't be ruled out. I said may well so if you want to pick holes in the words go ahead. Undoubtedly there are many on this thread and in the population at large, who would very much like Netanyahu arrested and put on trial.
I’d like to see Hamas members arrested and put on trial, but that won’t be happening either.
Israel has a right to defend itself but not the right to break every international law about the care for civilians/refugees who should receive aid and be allowed safe passage before bombing begins, and certainly not starved and have no access to clean water or medical treatment.
Hamas may break all the rules but they are a terrorist organisation, whereas Israel is a first world. democratic country, an ally of he west, with one of the biggest armies in the region, with state of the art weaponry, not a rogue state, unless that is how they want to be described.
Also Hamas and Hezbollah are defanged militarily right now, despite sporadic missiles or gunfire, so an ideal time to call for a truce, but Netanyahu won’t have it.
So yes, he is now a war criminal.
75% women and children, so 25% men, where are the men, on
Hamas. Videos all men , a murdered female hostage driven
around in Gaza cheered by many men
How can we justify arresting him when we sell him arms
Oreo
My father fought in the last push into Germany in WW2. Many towns and cities were all but annihilated during that push in 1945. Untold numbers of people died, many civilians, and women and children. In places such as Hamburg, thousands were burnt alive. No one said though, that the allies should be put on trial because it was thought that the end justified the means, which was the defeat of fascism. Instead those who started the war were put on trial, quite rightly.
People don’t like Netanyahu because he’s considered right wing. I know nothing of Israeli politics and I don’t pretend to know. But I know what started this horrible war and just like Putin, the perpetrators need to be brought to account. But world wide antisemitism and dislike of Netanyahu is conspiring to prevent this.

We can’t.
And we won’t.
But somebody should, fact is he was facing jail time before the war.
