Just looked and it is flying! 1,008,051 a few minutes ago.

All furious that Labour are going back on their promises.

BlueBelle Mon 25-Nov-24 09:39:02

Oh dear oh dear no one took much notice of our voices when Brexit was forced on us or the dreadful governing of the last government NO ONE listened AT ALL
Not so funny now is it

Louella12 Mon 25-Nov-24 09:41:04

But it's highly likely that Remain voters are unhappy with this government!

Anniebach Mon 25-Nov-24 09:41:10

So agree BlueBelle

Oldwoman70 Mon 25-Nov-24 09:47:17

Whilst this petition will not result in a General Election hopefully it will cause the government to realise just how unpopular some of their actions are and maybe have a rethink

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 09:47:51

Waht ridiculous nonsense- we have had to suffer FOURTEEN years, and Brexit too.

Suck it up snowflakes.

😂😂😂😂😂

Agree!!

Why on earth was that message deleted. This is something I would never say, and only posted because this is what we anti-Brexit people were told, again and again. We are still being told to 'get over it', despite the massive damage it has inflicted on all of us, and farmers even more so.

This petition is fronted by someone who lives in Sweden and a huge number of those who apparently are in favour, don't actually live in Britain.

Rubbish! He keeps a pub called the Wagon and Horses in Oldbury, West Midlands.

Agreed Bluebell.

In 2019 a petition calling for the government to ‘Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU’ garnered 5.5 million votes. Did anyone take a blind bit of notice - NO.

Election moaners … welcome to the world many of us have inhabited for the past 14 years!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Nov-24 09:56:34

Michael Westwood is the man who started the petition, he is the owner of Britains cheapest pub (pints of beer start at £2.30)

Primrose53 is correct

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 09:58:36

And even when it was proven that the tiny majority on Brexit was won on lies and foreign interference- so much so that, had it had been official, it would have been cancelled by the Electoral Commission. And when we complained, we were told repeatedly that we should respect 'Democracy'!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Nov-24 10:03:46

I haven’t signed and do not intend to sign the petition.

I see it more as sending a message to the Government that they have reneged on some of their pre-election promises, as well as the hole accepting freebies debacle which they constantly called out the Tories for doing the same.

In fact this Labour Government is just more of the same, just sporting a different colour.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Nov-24 10:04:21

Hole should of course been whole

LizzieDrip Mon 25-Nov-24 10:05:57

I stand corrected; the EU petition closed with over 6 million signatures. It was the most-signed petition to the UK parliament on record.

Still, anyone listened? NO

“By 24 March 2019, the petition had received 5 million signatures, and is the most-signed petition to the UK parliament on record;[2] it reached 6 million on 31 March, and closed on 20 August with a total of 6,103,056 signatures.”

A tiny minority of over a million, which could easily🤣🤣 have been overturned if only all the people who didn’t want Brexit had bothered.
I hold their lack of action responsible for Brexit as much, if not more than the leave voters.
When I was putting my X in Remain, where were they?
CBB is a national pastime when it comes to voting.

I tend to agree. Other issues aside, at least Brexit voters made the effort to vote.

I believe it was the civic duty of everyone, regardless.

MaizieD Mon 25-Nov-24 10:54:00

I think that many people didn't vote because they thought it was such a no brainer that the majority would be for Remain.

I even have a friend who voted 'Leave' for a laugh... He was mortified when Leave won.

Unfortunately I think that might be true..

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Nov-24 11:21:10

I always think that if you haven’t exercised you right to vote then you have exhausted your right to moan regarding the result.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 25-Nov-24 11:24:07

All this petition nonsense does is to ensure that this country has bad publicity and will stem the likelihood of inward investment. At least there is an attempt to do something which wasn’t happening with the last government with all their ridiculous infighting and inability to elect a leader of any calibre. They got rid of Theresa May who brokered a credible deal with Europe and received respect. Went for the lies of a journalist comedian who had political ambition but not much else.

Allira Mon 25-Nov-24 11:36:56

We've had a democratic vote.

However, unless they are stupid, they will realise they are angering people and that intransigence is not always an admirable trait.

Boz Mon 25-Nov-24 12:26:33

What amuses me is that this Gov. is doing stuff the Tories wouldn't dare do. Hitting the Tory vote may be a strategy but they should beware the power of the Establishment in Britain.

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 13:07:27

Perhaps some here missed the one where 6.2m people signed for the revocation of Article 50 and for the UK to remain in the EU..

theworriedwell Mon 25-Nov-24 13:56:57

I'm a remain voter and perfectly happy to give this government time to do their job. Five years isn't it.

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 14:14:18

The hypocrisy, and dishonesty of this is just unbelievable.

Since 2016 we have had SIX PMs, some of them voted in by a tiny weeny little group, and 4 different Brexit Deals.

And those Brexiters who proclaimed that voting on the above Brexit Deals would be totally undemocratic- and with the evidence that over 70% are now against. want another election 4 months after the last one, because they are not keen on the results so far.

Just un be lie va ble sad

Mollygo Mon 25-Nov-24 15:10:30

is what many people think about the Labour Government so far, even Labour voters.

Re Brexit:
All the arguments in the UK (or from those not in the UK) don’t change the fact that Brexit happened, because not enough voted Remain.

That's what worries me, too.

It will, of course, also give more ammunition to Elon Musk who is determined to foment discord in the UK - he seems to want a civil war (he'll be disappointed).
