Are there no limits for this despicable man, who dares call himself 'man of the people'

I do not know Farage nor do I know Starmer, but I am going by the political views of Farage which are the same as mine, so if Farage can become the next Prime Minister then that will suit me fine. Starmer is sending Great Britain to hell in a hand cart.

If you had read Reform’s “contract” during the election you would have seen their financial policies would have been a fiscal disaster.

What other policies of Reform did you feel were specifically aligned with your political views??

Wyllow3 Sat 30-Nov-24 12:03:45

For those "I don't know Farage" I'm repeating the original article on him. Here is your chance (go on Bev, you know you want to 🤫)

As it’s declared parliament and those who police MPs must be aware.

I can only assume that it was permissible 🤷‍♀️

Spot on Allira!

Farage is very ‘spiv’ like - wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him.

And you trust Starmer? 😵‍💫😂

I was talking about Farage.

The thing about Farage is that he's plausible, enjoys a pint in the pub, blokey type, but he's not all that he seems.

And I was addressing Lizzie drip..

Not sure whether you are addressing Farage's £40.000 for NOMAD (yes permissible as in declaration of interests)

or James James McMurdock’ remaining in parliament with Farage's blessing when the rules are

"Prospective candidates for Parliament can stand for election despite having a criminal record, unless they have served a prison term or been detained for 12 months or more."

HousePlantQueen Sat 30-Nov-24 13:01:51

As far as I am aware, nobody from Reform has commented on the Louise Haigh resignation, probably due to the James McMurdock history.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Nov-24 13:25:26

Wyllow3 I am astounded that James Murdock is allowed to be an MP!

Then again I cannot confess to being knowledgeable on all parliamentary matters.

LizzieDrip Sat 30-Nov-24 13:48:42

Yes *Shinamea, I do trust Keir Starmer.

Thank you Wyllow, I have read your link, very interesting article. He seems to be a caring father and described as charismatic and a political force, he seems to inspire strong feelings, a marmite person. its a balanced article (for the Guardian!) 😊

I have read it, 'he said, she said'. I honestly cannot see Reform being any worse than what we have at the moment. He wants to stop illegal immigration, so do I, he wants to stop money going abroad to other countries instead of using it to help our British born and bred citizens, so do I and that is the important thing at the moment because we do not have the money to support people who come to the UK and have not paid anything in to it.

The vast majority of immigrants to the UK are here perfectly legally. They have paid an enormous amount into the UK 'system'. Firstly, students who come to the UK usually pay about three times the amount of UK students (and their fees are high enough anyway). Overseas students subsidise UK universities to the tune of billions of pounds every year. Secondly, immigrants to the UK have to pay a NHS surcharge with their visa application of £1,035 per year, That's on top of any income tax and NICs, for which they'll be liable.

It simply isn't true that immigrants don't pay into the UK.

Unsurprisingly, the only thing you have mentioned is related to any non-Brit and foreign countries.

What about all the other Reform Policies?

So, in your opinion, so long as we prevent the 3% of migrants who enter illegally and stop foreign aid, magically everything else here in the UK will suddenly somehow be wonderful?

How will that work?

Cossy Sat 30-Nov-24 17:34:55

“It simply isn't true that immigrants don't pay into the UK.“

Growstuff

It certainly isn’t true!

It’s 97% net migration which is perfectly legal.

It saddens me to see expressions like British born and bred I find it demeaning and insulting!

My husband was born in Southern Ireland and I was born in Singapore and have dual nationality, as do our children.

Both my husband and I moved to England prior to starting primary school.

Just like our parents did, we have worked and paid taxes in this country all our working lives!

growstuff Sat 30-Nov-24 18:07:03

Whereas my son-in-law is 'British born and bred', but he's an Arab. He's worked in the UK and paid all his taxes too, but still occasionally suffers discrimination because he has a brown face and foreign-sounding name.

Jeanathome Sat 30-Nov-24 18:11:02

Some people struggle to grasp the concept of Black British.
And some just don't care.

‘Three weeks after Labour took power, on July 25, the Home Office announced that 46 migrants had been deported by plane to Timor-Leste and Vietnam. The flight to Vietnam was the first for deportations since 2022. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper crowed, “We have immediately replaced the flight planning for Rwanda with actual flights to return people who have no right to stay to their home countries instead.”

In August, Cooper promised to deport at least 14,385 “illegal migrants” by the end of the year, the highest rate since 2018. The government continually briefs the media on its anti-immigrant agenda to ensure front-page coverage and in the words of the Mirror, “it’s understood more flights are planned before the end of the year—to new countries the UK hasn’t previously charted flights to,” meaning Labour may well exceed its target.’
This has replaced the useless Rwanda plan and seems to be working well. But doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the news.

Dinahmo Sat 30-Nov-24 19:04:54

We need some economic migrants. There is an aging population in the UK. Us baby boomers are living longer and a large number are needing some sort of help - whether in care homes, hospices or just help in the house garden. Also I think hospitality needs them too.

Dinahmo Sat 30-Nov-24 19:08:50

Some years ago the inhabitants of one of the small Cotswolds towns (one of the Slaughters I think) all had their DNA done. They firmly believed that they were true blue English, through and through. Imagine their surprise when they got the results. A mixture of many races, just like the rest of us.

DH was two when he came to UK. He is a mix of English, Scottish, Huguenot, Dutch, Norwegian, Black African and Indonesian, with a bit of Indian and Bengali.

He has never ever suffered from discrimination- because the 'white' genes won, pure fluke, and he is white.

I was 19- and never ever suffered discrimination (until I came to Gransnet) - and was told, again and again 'ah we don't mean you, you are one of us', which truly upset me, every time.

Interesting! My great grandmother lived in one of the Slaughters although she wasn't born and bred there.

PS she may not have known it, but some of her ancestors were French Huguenots. Not subjected to discrimination although they were, of course, when they were in France.

If it actually happens it’s excellent, but 46 only so far. Will have to look out for more news on this.
It’s not long to the ‘end of the year’ so over 14,000 to go.
