Depends what you mean by "chat". GN has different forums within it including "chat".

News and Politics is a serious forum (not that there cant be moments of humour) but for matters of the day to be discussed that affect our lives deeply for those really interested.

So may threads come to mind over the months where people have shared news and information.

Perhaps chat "About" politicians in the way you describe ie not seriously, light hearted, informal belongs better in the "Chat" forum in GN?

This is on the News and Politics board, not Chat. There is one N & P board and a couple of others where facts and figures could be a prerequisite for discussion. All the others are some sort of take on "chat".

Everyone is individual and our conversations elsewhere off the internet will all be quite different. Some people do take politics "seriously" and like to discuss it in depth. It’s obviously important for online spaces to balance the need for respectful discourse, but do you really think that means shutting out those with a desire for in-depth discussions. Indepth discussion in itself is not disrespectful.

Every individual's perspective on politics can vary greatly, and some may approach these topics with a serious, analytical mindset. Are you suggesting this shouldn't be allowed.

I doubt this thread was intended to be serious.

Some people do take themselves very seriously indeed but the fact is that none of us can change a thing except by putting our X in the preferred box.

I don’t think click bait posts belong on the politics section. I’m pretty sure that the OP realised that a lot of dull boring people like me wouldn’t find it ‘hilarious’.

I think we all deserve to be taken seriously on several kinds of threads when the intention is sincere and heartfelt, and for some of us politics is just that.

(Just as I would respect and take people seriously in for example "estrangement").

As regards change, taking part in political parties or campaign groups are ways of making changes as well as the x on the ballot. History is full of people "making a difference"

Or in the smallest ways, discussing and listening, offering information. "Hearts and minds".

There isn’t any ‘irony ‘ I genuinely want to know why she thinks it was a set up because I’ve not read anything to the contrary. WW. Is very clued up on politics so if anyone knows she would. Ok? Oh and btw I’m not goading anyone. It’s a genuine question.

I want to know what are Reform's policies apart from "sending them back". Nobody will ever tell me. I have tried Gooogle to no avail.

They had an election manifesto which is available googling online. But you are right about boats, it does just say we will "Pick up illegal migrants out of boats and take them back to France."

There is no more detail, I presume people are just taking it on trust.

The difference is that Labour are in power, so they’re the ones who will be expected to fulfil their aim.

You are entitled to your perspective and I'm sure we can all see the value in, at times, bringing a light touch to political discussions. However, you do seem to be saying others should not adressing the subject from their own perpective. This seems a little harsh. Even casual conversations can benefit from some seriousness and analysis.

While it's true that voting is crucial, understanding the complexities of the issues can enrich our decisions and the conversations we have about them.

Cnversations are inherently dynamic and unpredictable because they involve multiple perspectives, emotions, and reactions. Each participant brings their own thoughts, experiences, and interpretations to the table, making it impossible to fully control how a discussion will unfold.

While you can certainly guide a conversation with questions or topics of interest, the natural ebb and flow, as well as differing opinions, will always shape its direction. Even in an internal conversation, you might find yourself wrestling with different viewpoints. It's this unpredictability that often makes conversations rich and engaging!

My own question would be, did the Heckler already know that Ms Cooper was going to be there, as she has been for the last 20 years? If so, the Heckler was not an ordinary shopper who just happened to be strolling by, and just happened to have a very spontaneous just off the top of her head series of Reform type issues to discuss with the Politician.
If the verbal assault was planned, then that would be a 'set up'. Does anyone know either way?

I don't suppose Yvette Cooper was too bothered by it.

After all, her family is not averse to doing a bit of heckling themselves. She's not a shrinking violet either.

No I don’t know anything which is why I asked. However I will be writing to Reform to see what they say regarding this. This is important. Especially as posters are saying it was a ‘set up.’
